Total War: Shogun 2 - Fall of the Samurai Gameplay Information:
The standalone expansion to the award-winning Total War™: SHOGUN 2 explores the conflict between the Imperial throne and the last Shogunate in 19th century Japan, 400 years after the events of the original game. A dramatic clash of traditional Samurai culture with the explosive power of modern weaponry.
Guide ancient Japan into the modern age, as the arrival of America, Britain and France incites a ferocious civil war which will decide the future of a nation.
-----
Total War: Shogun 2 - Fall of the Samurai Features:
Dramatic 19th century Japan setting
Based on the backdrop of the Boshin War period, the new campaign starts in 1864, a time of growing resentment against Western colonial power and influence. As Japan begins to modernise and industrialise, the inevitable social and economic changes lead to increasingly militant nationalism and antipathy towards the Shogunate.
6 new playable clans
Play as a clan supporting the Imperial throne, or the last Shogunate:
Shogunate clans: Aizu, Nagaoka, Jozai
Imperial clans: Choshu, Satsuma, Tosa
New foreign powers
The American, British and French nations play an important part in the story of the Boshin war, and your relations with these foreign powers will be integral to unit recruitment and to advancing your technology trees.
New 19th century Japan campaign map
The new island of Ezo extends the SHOGUN 2 campaign map northwards.
Fully refreshed towns and other campaign map features reflect the new time period, with railways making their first appearance in a Total War title.
Campaign map railways
Develop your own railway network to move armies and agents between your regions.
Railways can be sabotaged and transport can be blocked by enemy armies who take control of parts of the line or stations.
39 new land units
Including modern ranged units - such as the Gatling gun and Armstrong gun - controllable in a new third-person mode.
New units can also be recruited from foreign powers, including the British Royal Marines, US Marine Corps and French Marines.
10 new naval unit types with a total of 21 ships
New steam-powered warships, heavily armed with modern artillery.
This new battle type triggers when attempting a naval assault on an occupied enemy port.
The attacking fleet must sail into the harbour and capture the port, running the gauntlet of coastal gun defences.

To be fair, every general in this game is a generic general, that's just a game mechanic. It'd be a bit weird if they took one or two generals and made them absolutely OP. That said, they could've given him a special trait at least.

A trick about conquering entire Shikoku island without taking diplomatic penalty for attacking Allied is to send your Geisha up north to discover Sainuki and then Declare war on him on turn one. This will forced your Allied to join in this war. It sound stupid but it really isn't because Sainuki initially has no adjacent border to Tosa, thus the only viable target for them is your Allied. Regardless of who win, they should be weakened enough that after you finished off Iyo you can immediately smack them despite having 2 vs 2 provinces. Most of the time Sainuki win though, which saved you the hassle of diplomatic penalty.

@daniellanyi8287
@daniellanyi8287 4 жыл бұрын
The fastest possible way to conquer Shikoku is to always send around a fleet with an army to attack the enemy in the back while simultaneously attacking him with a land army prompting him to leave the capital allowing you to destroy his clan. You can also use this to take advantage of a clan attacking your ally or your ally betraying you. Getting rid of your fleet is a noob move cause the naval bombardment with its extended range allows you to take enemy castles with tiny armies so you can take over the whole island literally without stopping for a single turn. I've done it twice myself on legendary.

Mainly leaving this comment for myself, but I've tried this strategy three times now and each time, Sanuki kills your ally by about turn 3-5. This is a far better option than them declaring war later, because then your ally might win and then you'd have to deal with betraying them or using agent shenanigans. Also, if you don't declare war on them the first turn, for some reason they declare war on the Saga, who then in turn sail a giant death ball into their region and snatch it out from under your nose. machaiping is definitely correct, declaring war on turn 1 is much better than the alternative.

Tosa Riflemen is probably my favorite unit of the game. Incredible base stats and being available to produce super early game with a just a barracks makes them a long lasting staple like line infantry. They also happen to have a unique breech loading animation which is much faster than the muzzle loading animation of most other units. I've also noticed that FOTS' autoresolve REALLY likes Tosa Riflemen for some reason. Not uncommon to see them picking up some 70% of all kills.

Here's an alternative to tosa expansion route, it works on all difficulties, put all your unit in your boats turn one and sail to nagoya in middle of japan, they have very few units at the start so its an rather easy fight to take a province with very fertile soil and blacksmith, as for your main province just let enemy or rebels take it. Nagoya also have very defensive port since you only need to block the small strait with one single navy, so you don't spend your entire middle game getting bombarded and wasting money on repairs.

One of my favorite clans, aside from the Jozai whose guerrilla tactics and superior light infantry give me many great options during the campaign. With the Tosa, I have some of the best ships in Fall of the Samurai, am able to control an entire island from which I can than secure further resources from the mainland, and conduct seafaring hit-and-run assaults against their opponents makes them a deadly force to be reckoned with.

You should reconsider tosa riflemen, i think it's the best autoresolve unit, in my campaign i won a lot of battles by losing something like 5% of my troops, same with sieges it's insane. i invaded several cities with 6 tosa riflemen and 3 armstrong cannons, no general. I must precise they were fully upgraded and have something like 100 precision, if not more.

The Tosa probably get the best deal when it comes to unique units in FoTS as both of them are extremely useful and practical. Red Bears are much more useful that Black and White Bears as the Reds only need a level 2 modern recruitment building making them great as an intermediary between Line infantry and SIR infantry. Tosa Riflemen are a massive upgrade over generic Sharpshooters, they share the same recruitment building and have no recruitment cap, making them a staple of your armies and useful well into the campaigns late game.

You know, I completed a Tosa Rifleman only challenge not too long ago and I have to say, in Auto Resolve, Tosa Rifleman are outright broken. It wasn't uncommon for me to have a group of five Tosa Riflemen with some experience obliterate two or three full stacks with only a handful of casualties. The only time this started to not be a thing is when the higher accuracy and higher fire rate Imperial and Shogunate Infantry began showing up, but by that point, my Tosa Riflemen had conquered 2/3's of all Japan as a republic

What is the difference between fighting for the shogun or the emperor. I understand the boshin war was fought mainly due to western influence. That it was the shogun who opened the doors to japan, and wanted to westernize, where as the emperor wanted to preserve Japanese traditions, while modernizing. But in the game dose it make any difference at all who you side with? Do you get any specific buffs for supporting either or?

Shogunate and Empire have some unique units and their police agent is different depending of the alligance. Btw tradition vs modernity wiev of the Boshin war is veeery flawed. At this point, every top person in the Japan wantd to modernise and seeked contenct with western world.
@saturn12002
@saturn12002 4 жыл бұрын
@@konradpiotrpaszkowski631 Im somewhat familiar with the Boshin war. I'm pretty sure the game got the conflict backwards. The shogun wanted to modernize the country, while the emperor wanted to keep it traditional. It was only toward the end of the conflict did the emperor realize if Japan is to survive it must modernize. However the Emperor was very dead set on preserving Japanese cultural traditions, while also centralizing the government. Which is why Japan today is still very culturally and socially traditional. I think the game failed to capture that, as at the heart of the conflict was the rejection vs acceptance of western culture and customs. The samurai also played a large role in the conflict fearing that they would become irrelevant, and loose their place in Japanese society, which was a place of prominence and respect. They of course did loose their relevance and place in Japanese society.
