In this video we look at a Toshiba 20AF46 CRT TV that's a rebadged Orion It looks really good and I highly recommend picking up this set, also doesn't seem to have Scan Velocity Modulation like older versions of this set have

Holy moly...THIS WAS MINE! I couldn't believe what I was seeing when you showed the back with those metal strips glued on as well as the piece of masking tape with the hours count on it, but that was absolutely my CRT and yes, I was the one who attached all the strips on the tube! The strips were actually for geometry, not convergence. The convergence wasn't a problem, as I recall. But the geometry was a mess, and I tried my best to improve it using a bunch of home made strips, so forgive the ugliness back there, lol! Feel free to remove them and try your own hand at correcting the geometry, based on how you intend to position the set. I think I did my adjustments with it facing East. I hated getting rid of the set because it was quite low in hours (they original owner I got it from had it installed in an RV, hence the metal mounting strips) and the picture was very bright and sharp. But I could never overcome the poor horizontal linearity that plagues flats in general, so I ended up trading it for a 20" early 90s Trinitron. It's so wild that it somehow made it to you! This makes me wonder how close you are to me...I live in southeastern NC, and the guy I traded it to lives near Fayetteville, NC.

LOL that's funny, well it's neat to know where the set came from and where it is now. I still have it atm but I'm not really adjusting anything since it all seems fine

@@P-0-Seventeen Well, glad you're enjoying it. Hopefully the horizontal linearity doesn't bother you as much as it bothered me. I just edited my original post to say that the piece of masking tape was the number of hours it had on it when I checked in the service menu. Are you in NC? Just wondering how far that thing has traveled since I had it!
@P-0-Seventeen6 ай бұрын
@spencer6891 The linearity doesn't bother me on those even if I know it's an issue on some of the flat crt's. Usually the lineary problems are more barrel rolling and such during horizontal and/or vertical scrolling, which isn't as noticeable in curved sets

@@spencer6891 We shall never know if he was near you or if somehow this magical set made its way inside of another RV to cross the country. I was curious to find out also after reading this amazing tale lol. I found a Toshiba 20AF44 on the curb and it looks very similar, just been trying to find out more info about this TV since I also found a sony KV-32FS210 Trinitron and an RCA TruFlat.

Love my AF 14 & 20 inch sets. The 20 inch looks so much better after you unplug the edge enhancement thingy. Also Shiren the Wanderer is a fantastic game!

Pro tip, mics pick up ~15kHz frequencies really well, a lot more audible in videos than irl. The 15kHz whine is really loud here making it a bit hard to listen for those of us who hear it. Opening the audio in audacity and cutting off anything above 15kHz before export would be nice for us viewers. SVM/VM is nice when it's adjustable through a menu since a small amount of it make for more accurate transitions between light and dark. Sadly a lot of manufacturers either just included a couple of bad preset or permanently on, where you get those brightened high contrast edges, that oversharpened look we all hate. (also, with the whine thing, you've probably seen me talk about reducing that whine on CRTs through sound isolating materials, or using silicone glue on things like linearity coils as sometimes it's those that make a loud high pitch sound instead. Figured I'd mention that here for anyone who has that problem and reads this)

im pretty sure he knows, the crt community is insane and likes the sound hahaha, I use an EQ extension and filter it myself

How do you adjust the geometry

Not much of a fan of the flat screen CRTs but this is a nice looking unit, I think My Life in Gaming has this set but either 14 or 27 inches

Recently got a Sony KV-27V42 CRT. Learned it has Velocity Modulation and can be disabled by unplugging a connector on the neck board. Mainly using it for older consoles like NES, SNES, and N64. Should I disable the Scan Velocity Modulation?

Are you a fan of the 20” Sony FD Wegas like the KV20FS100? I never understood why they nixed S-Video. Seems to have an awesome picture.
@P-0-Seventeen9 ай бұрын
I never tried that one, but I heard those FS100's typically will have more bowing issues then others. Regardless it still seems pretty good but I think the KV-20FV12 is still sufficient

You said you have a video on a Toshiba 24AF42. Im curious where i could find that video.

It'd be a 14af42, not a 24af42

Hey I have a bit of a rookie question. I noticed that the red is ridiculously overpowered on my Trinitron. It is so strong it almost looks reddish orange on component and hurts my eyes. I noticed that RCUT was very very high in relation to BCUT and GCUT. Like 281 in the service menu. Would I just need to bring RCUT down to get a more natural red color? Green and Blue seem perfect, its just a really intense red.
@P-0-Seventeen9 ай бұрын
Red push, it's something you might be able to disable in either the normal or service menu depending on the set. There are ways though by reducing red drive/cutoff to help but then you need to do a bit of white rebalance

sorry but, at 3:00 i can hear a very high sound, i don't know if it's just me but when you film the tube (the copper part) there is a very high pitch sound
@P-0-Seventeen9 ай бұрын
Yeah all crt's have that whine >:)

how does the Orion tube compare to a Toshiba tube
@P-0-Seventeen9 ай бұрын
Toshiba tubes seem to be better in almost every category, can't confirm since I've never owned one but I've seen pictures and they seem great. These orion tubes though aren't half bad, they're just limited in service menu options at times and can be a bit more prone to future issues like bad capacitors and such

Did you record this video on a potato? Why is it only 360p?
@Quest4GloryGamer9 ай бұрын
No, it's not actually.
@P-0-Seventeen9 ай бұрын
It uploads the vid first at 360p since 1080p takes longer to process, but higher quality comes later automatically
@smasherjosh50009 ай бұрын
It's fine now

My cellphone phone still shows it's only 360p. I have a Google pixel 6a.

A Toshiba TV Made by Orion is a Shame, Orion is really a Bad Cheap Company.
