Nice to see Nagoshi having courage to make what they think is the best. There are plenty of game series that dont change or evolve their core gameplay to pursue big sales. I always thought of yakuza as something special and after 7 games it is fitting to do something new while keeping its fun spirit. Cool video!

Lol Nagoshi-san has been so used to rejection since day one he just goes for it anyway. Even though Im not fond with the new game mechanic, Im still proud of their courage and balls to do what they want thats best for the game. I mean thats how Yakuza even came to be in the first place. RPG is not my thing but I still trust RGG team nonetheless. Doing something new and fresh is not something Im against to but I know Im not the target audience for Y7

Who knows? It could end up being the game that gets you into RPGs, Anyway, I do think they should have probably changed the name or something, since Yakuza without Kiryu is kind of... idk, But oh well, hope it turns out good.

Excellent work as always. These guys' talk is very moving, more than any motivational pep-talk we hear these days. They are at the front and they are pushing the boundaries of their own creativity (specially Nagoshi. Can you imagine Assassin's Creed or Call of Duty freshening their approaches? Never.). This is why I have always loved JP Games, and I'm glad Indies in the West follow their footsteps instead of the formulaic Western Triple As'. Stay safe from the typhoon!

I hope you can talk to Fumihiko Yasuda again about his upcoming game Rise of the Ronin. It is my most anticipated game of 2024, and I'm very excited for March 22nd to finally arrive.

Super excited to see a long running series like Yakuza being taken in a completely new direction. The industry has a problem with stagnation and homogenisation, but trying new things is how we find what works, and allows games to improve, innovate and evolve.

Please make one about the video game company FromSoftware (creators of Dark Souls, Bloodborne, etc.) It would be amazing if you could get to do one with the company's president, Hidetaka Miyazaki.

As you can imagine we have tried in the past, but Miyazaki doesn't do video unfortunately.

Loving the change in RGG to full blown party based, job/class focused, pseudo turn based JRPG. The new protagonist and Yokohama are also necessary to refresh the series. Will get a copy day one 👍🏻

I'm glad RGG is taking the direction they are. They are making the game they want to make even though that means taking a chance. And even if it might not be to some fans tastes I'd argue it's far better for the devs to make a game they are passionate about and that they want to make rather than as Nagoshi put it becoming "yes man for the players". That's the kind of attitude that leads to great games and led to Yakuza existing to begin with. Taking chances and making the game they themselves want to make.

It was the right thing to do, I understand that new fans of the franchise feel that the change may be too "early" and radical but I think longtime fans of the franchise were a little tired of the formula. Some of us even felt that the formula wasn`t going anywhere, Kiwami 1, Kiwami 2 and Yakuza 6 felt like a huge step back from Zero, 5 and Ishin, and Judgment wasn`t exactly a huge step up in terms of gameplay (even though It had a couple of nice new mechanics). Similar thing happened with RE4 back in the day, the main difference Is that it wasn`t only the franchise, the whole genre was over saturated and I don`t remember anyone complaining over the change of direction-

You're spot on buddy. The fighting system desperately needed a change. I dont know how i feel about roaring excavators yet but I'm leaning towards the "it's so ridiculous it's good" side.
