I'm an 83kg powerlifter & I can't imagine throwing the weight around like he is. I have way more respect for competitive weightlifters like this than any big ass powerlifters. Technique is incredibly challenging to perfect in this sport. Im most likely going to transition into Olympic weightlifting after my PL career!
@youngsuit5 жыл бұрын
I would do more Oly lifts but I don't have anywhere near the proper flexibility / mobility
@TopDoggyRobby4 жыл бұрын
Why would you transition to weightlifting after powerlifting? You should start as young as possible before your speed decreases. Strength doesn’t decrease with age like speed does and it takes half a decade to master the techniques in the first place and theres zero carryover from powerlifting like their would be from weightlifting. Seems very counterintuitive

i think thats healthier since you are not a wightlifting world champion preparing for the olympics. Because I guess you still want to get up tomorrow and be able to walk to your job :D Seriously doing the same routine with lower weights is reall healthy for you. And you wont need a whole team of physiotherapists or practitioners working on your injuries :)
@rikunevalainen81545 жыл бұрын
You are right.. I started to do "olympic lifts" at the age of 50 on the side of my light standard gym training. I can not expect a much progress but some good things have happened in a year, better stamina, no back pain, generally I can use my body now faster and more efficiently, I noticed that I can jump higher than previous years. But what is missing, is those deep postures before the actual lift. I noticed that my body tries to resist that movement, so I have to train a lot of the basic movement with a wooden stick or using the 20kg bar without any irons. Next goal is to stretch more.
@iPlainSushiCake5 жыл бұрын
@@unknownknown360 I believe you have it misconstrued. As long as you stretch, have proper programming, and progressing technique, there's no reason why you shouldn't lift heavier weights or need a team of physiotherapists. Oly lifting is meant to adhere to what the body feels as natural, but society and technology has broken down our posture and flexibility, even something as simple as keeping an upright posture is uncommon so-to-speak
@unknownknown3605 жыл бұрын
@@iPlainSushiCake I guess you are right. Personally I have found really difficult to not hurt my self while going to the gym and doing some simple lifts or simple calistenics. I am a guy that is stretching is trying to get educated through youtube videos (on how to stretch when and general body health) So in my personal point of view it is really easy to get injured. As you can see in the video this lifter has had cupping recently which means he had some pain or limited range of motion. That is what I mean. Anyway I get your point :D (What I have seen is that you dont have to go heavy always to see results)
@anatoli47944 жыл бұрын
It's rather suggested to keep the range of movement and muscle balance active with eccentric/isometric training with low weights/body weight rather than stretching that doesnt actually improve muscle length. Of course one can stretch a bit but it shouldnt be the basis of muscle care. Long muscles like hamstrings can be negatively affected from stretching, so its advice to move them, get them warm with movement, and do yoga-type excersise rather than old school stretching.
