I work with Greg for years and at his send off retirement party last night I told him and his wife that I have never worked in my 50 plus years with a man that constantly pulled his phone out to show photos of his kids, and wife and yes Tosh you too. He recently showed me a photo of his wife and said isn't she beautiful. I told him that I did not have that male role model of a step dad in my life, nor did my daughter with the dad that was never there. Then started to cry. I work with one other man like him. They are rare and far and few.

My parents did the same thing to me!! I didn't find out my dad had been married to someone before my mom until I was 30 and a life event happened where they thought it might come up amongst their friend group while I was around and so my dad dropped it on me during a random ride on errands. Also learned that he had a kid with the woman and that kid passed away at age 7, years before I was born - they went and pulled out pictures of him and her that had apparently been in the house my whole life - it was a wild experience.
