Sweet technology. I rode on for a while. It was good on gravel roads, too. I always burned premium gasoline and a slightly rich oil mix, and kept the ports clean. It never let me down for ten thousand miles and was running well when we parted.

Sound is fabulous! As if it's the strongest machine on the road; it scares pedestrians so much that some jump to hide before they turn and see what is coming;-) Solex is the vehicle that really makes its owner happy: you can't stay serious or sad or worried when you start riding! And many passers-by smile or laugh too. Solex will take you through every traffic violation: policemen stops you only to admire you. And have a laugh. And that's about all what you need to know about your vehicle, Solex doesn't ask for more than that. In case that someone wonders how come that I know so much about Solex, that's because I'm the Proud Owner of one from 1980. and it still goes without repairs. It had original tires untill 1995., when I've bought a new pair in France. I think that 1st owner, who had it from 1965.-1980. haven't changed the tires or anything else. Perfect vehicle, I tell you. I allways wondered: Solex has 5000 OF WHAT?! It has 0,8 horse powers, engine volume around 1500 ccm, so why is 5000 written on every machine? This question has allways been a good running joke.

Hey man I would like to know a little more about these if you want to, your story seems awesome and It really made me want one, what kind of tires should I get, and what kind of maintenance is there?
@tazika29888 жыл бұрын
+McMuffinFluffin I've bought mine on a trade-fair in Yugoslavia (the part of the world where I still live & drive, only under another name) and I've asked my friend to bring me new tires from France - they were still producing this very same tires for Velo Solex. It has friction transmission so you have to find this special tires. As for maintenance - not much more then for a bicycle, really. I must warn you that learning how to drive Solex is NOT easy - although I was good on bicycle and motorcycle I felt clumsy and unsafe for the first 10 drives. When a friend asks you for a try, just to make one round, most likely he will fail - if/when you buy one, ask for experienced driver to teach you basics or study Solex-driving from a book. This is only vehicle with friction transmission I've ever tried and it's SO different from other moto-vehicles: you can't accelerate or decelerate his machine, only press it on the tire harder or lighter; you can't let it run and put on the brakes, because machine will burn the tire etc. Vehicle for intellectuals only! And BIG fun - go for it, McMuffinFluffin!

5000 because they started at rounded production number 5.000.000. solex 3800 had 3.7xx.xxx bikes produced before.
