The gearing will be the same irrespective of the wheel size as assuming the roller is the same size the tyre speed will be exactly the same hence the road speed will also be the same at any given engine speed!, Nice little bike by the way 👍🤓

Im 60 yrs old. In the 1970s here in Canada we were allowed to ride these at 14 yrs of age until I reached 13 1/2 yrs of age. The law was changed to 16 so instead of getting a velo solex I got an RD350 at 16. However, I always wanted a solex so last winter I finally bought one. It doesnt run and needs a new roller but hopefully I will fix it up this winter. Thx for showing me that it really is a simple machine.

They are simple to work on and a joy to ride! Chaning the roller is a bit involved but not that bad.. Good luck with it! :)
@ccooper87853 жыл бұрын
The only problem with old machines is once you have fixed all the faults it then means that you have the maximum number of things that can break... I love the Solex, unfortunately in the UK you have to be 16 to ride on the road and you always have to wear a helmet (even although you are slower than some folk on push bikes). Having owned a 2CV, a Skoda Estelle, a Fiat 126, an original Mini and 3 MZ 2 strokes I now suddenly feel I that am missing a Velo Solex in my life😁

I'd make a guess that when the seller tested the moped, it may have been sat in the sun for a while, so pressure would have built up in the fuel tank as the petrol vaporised inside, so could have given enough pressure to run, but when taken home and garaged, the petrol condensed and the pressure went down, resulting in no fuel getting through... :)

Great video as usual! Does the engine significantly increase the wear of the front tire, or is the difference just marginal. Actually the gearing doesn't change with smaller wheels, so the difference is probably caused by something else.
@SeasideGarage3 жыл бұрын
I have not noticed a difference in the wear on this compared to other velos.. Hmm... you are right... the gearing must be the same still!... Hmm that's interesting... maybe its just a placebo... ;)
@eozcompany98563 жыл бұрын
@@SeasideGarage Theoretically the circumference of the 16" wheels is smaller so the wear will be higher. It is possible that the engine is better run in so it is faster. Since you have three Velos, each of them different, which one do you like the most?

@@eozcompany9856 that makes sense. But i have tried many 5000 and they always seem faster... Maybe it just feels that way because they are so small... ;) I think like the 2200 most... But i have owned that for soooo long.... Many memories.. :)

The gearing is in fact not different with a smaller wheel. The drivewheel from the engine drives the same distantie on a small wheel then it does on a big wheel. So that is not why they apeare faster.
