Bridgette was never allowed to be her own person. She wasn't in the original Camp TV pilot (the Prototype of Total Drama) instead it seemed they originally wanted Gwen and Geoff to be a thing. But when they redesigned Gwen to be the Anti-Social Goth Girl they decided to give them different love interests instead Trent and Bridgette respectively. It's also sad that almost none of the female friendships established in Season 1 outside of Lindsay and Beth and Katie and Sadie were allowed to build upon. Bridgette was not allowed to keep Gwen or Leshawna as friends sadly. She always felt to me like that "Cool Girl" stereotype you see in RomCom where the love interest displays has a lot of stereotypically guy interests solely as a male fantasy to get a hot tomboyish gf for them.

Not sure how much attention you payed to the show, but Bridgette and Leshawna definitely remained friends. Also most relationships formed in reality tv, be it romantical or friendships, usually don't last.

Bridgette has plenty of her own individual plots in both Island and World Tour. (saving Bruno in the arctic, trying to help the girls work together in Brunch of Disgustingness, her thing with Eva) Action focuses on her relationship more because she co-hosts with her (now toxic) boyfriend.

Bridgette, Gwen and Leshawna were my favorite characters when I watched this show as a kid. I'm happy I stopped watching before they did that cheating storyline with her character. And love the idea of doing makeup looks that are themed to what your talking about.

I always hated what they did with Bridgette and Geoff, they were my fav couple until the show ruined them. It always felt like they didn't like that there was a seemingly healthy relationship and decided to just ruin her character by making her a cheater.

Why are you all ignoring the FACT that she felt terrible for what she did? Plus she was straight up manipulated by Alejandro, for many episodes he simply didn't leave her alone. Teens make mistakes sometimes, as long as she aknowledges she messed up, it's okay. Characters are allowed to do mistakes. And TD DOES have healthy relationships, I can name you at least 10.

@@StonedHunter How is it out of character? Making a mistake after many episodes of manipulation isn't out of character as long as the character itself acknowledges they did something wrong. Not to mention Bridgette didn't know anything about Alejandro. This is the same girl that Heather almost manipulated into joining her alliance despite knowing very well how terrible of a person she is. She's not this great player that can't be manipulated.

Yes she cheated and that's wrong, nobody's saying she's completely innocent, but at least she felt awful for what she did. That's not ruining a character, that's giving a character flaws and making them more three dimensional.

Unfortunately, I think this is the kind of characterization writers tend to default to when writing women + girls in relationships. People generally have a tough time writing something good without relying on some major conflict. The conflict in these cases is often switching whatever personality strengths that were there for an over reliance on the boyfriend or husband

Bridgette is my favorite female character, she was the chill, friendly girl in TDI and even tried to help out with the other girls in some episodes. (Like in the Brunch of Disgustingness for example) I was really disappointed how she was reduced to just sucking faces with Geoff during her run on TDA and it literally costed both of them the game, then went on to host the Aftermath. Then in TDWT, I was excited to see that Bridgette would be competing without Geoff, because I thought it meant that she could finally be her own character again. But NOPE, she’s an early boot and was only used as a stepping stone for Alejandro. I really wish she could have gone farther in TDWT.

While I never watched Total Drama, I remember being so frustrated at the books my highschool made me read due to how androcentric they were. Especially the "coming-of-age" books that treated the cishet male lead's inability to find a girlfriend as a complete tragedy, which I couldn't help but roll my eyes at as a trans girl of color.

I think the biggest issue Total drama has is it brings back characters for too many seasons. Reality shows constantly have new casts each season and former players only come back for their “all star” run. The OG cast should’ve been in 2 seasons. Season 1 is their first attempt to win and world tour should’ve been their “all star” run. Keeping players around for 3-4 seasons mean they gotta make new drama which tends to ruin characters like Trent, Gwen, leshawna, Courtney, Duncan, Bridgette. Their all victims of overstaying their welcome

After season 3, they decided to make 13-episode seasons, which left so little room for storyline development. Everything became rushed with the new characters. I agree that season 3 was my favorite, because the writers didn't hold anything back. In season 1, I feel like they're stuck between writing raunchy and kids-appropriate. I agree that after season 1, they flanderized some characters, like Bridgette. Also, some characters I call them "vocational" characters because they seemed to have one vocation (Sierra's only schitck was to be obsessed with Cody and it was so uncomfortable to watch IMO). I agree that they should have introduced new characters in season 2 that would mix up with some of the old ones that didn't get a lot of screentime during the first season. Regarding the male-centrism, I don't completely disagree with you, but keep in mind that the cast members are teens/young adults and their hormones have to flowing and a lot of them likely don't have much experience in love and relationships. I agree that many female characters with potential were kinda flatlined by bad writing, like Bridgette, Gwen (after her breakup with Trent).

yep! i get where you are coming from. cause i had to remind myself how young bridgette is (like i stated in the beginning) it was just sad how the show knew how to do more with geoff outside of her though. after that we just never saw her much again and :-(
