I counted 26 seconds and 10 strokes and as everybody else said is only a drill, gliding at a very high level and I can assure that is really useful to start every training with this kind of drills to start "feeling" the water and understand that in the water, the more you move, the less you go forward as reducing the drag is the easiest way to advance with no fatigue. Only my very modest opinion. I started "studying" TI videos on the internet and they were really useful to me.

@luisfevi3 жыл бұрын

The thing about water is that when you are not actively propel you are slowing down. Because of that especially in freestyle it is important to develop an active glide. No dead spots, no overgliding, basically no phases where you just lie in the water in a streamline position. The glide of the entering hand directly leads into the catch. AFAIK TI basically teaches that too, but it's more about conservation of energy. High speed just has a different focus. TI can definitely help with that, though

Nice contact between the push and stretch phases here. You can maximise your momentum a little more by being more aggressive in getting your upper arm through the back half of the stroke and slowing with your elbows above your head. If you watch some Phelps’s or popovici training freestyle you’ll see this in action.

He "pulled" water 9 times. Call a stroke what you want, but I believe the intent is to pull as efficiently as possible, which will minimize the amount of work required to get to the other side. What the video isn't instructing on, is how to accomplish this.

I think TI style is good to incorporate within your daily drills. But I wouldn't do all my swim with this style because hand entry is too close to the head and prevents faster catch.

I have been trying to implement TI style of swimming into my training however I notice that when swimming at very high speeds almost no one is able to keep a "total immersion stroke". I very rarley see professionals using this form of swimming either. Is this type of swimming llimited to slower speeds??
@triswimjose_ph3 жыл бұрын
Nop. Thats a level of skills and fitness. A ti swimmer and coaches are working out how to be patient and controlled every stroke and right, slow step by step drilling is a key to master the ti techniques. I been 15yrs of being conscious and mindful practice by myself and last year i got the official ti coaching training course

Looks more like a drill for emphasizing recovery arm than a proper stroke. My question is why would one arm wait so long for the other arm before pulling? Or is the whole point of 'total immersion' technique to glide without worrying about losing speed?
@davidj56255 жыл бұрын
@@Dero_milsurp - To build up/keep momentum, you can't afford to swim like that. It's a fact. How are you efficient if you are losing speed? I suggest that you check out videos of 1500m races and open water swim, nobody spends that much time with the lead arm extended. If that's the style you prefer, i.e., the Immersion technique, then go for it but I don't think you understand the meaning of efficiency.
@davidj56255 жыл бұрын
@@Dero_milsurp I suggest you read the first sentence of my original comment. Did I come across as knowledgeable? Thanks but I am not and I never claimed to be - not sure what prompted you to assume that I think I know a lot. Based on your reaction, I imagine that you could be one of those swimmers who slows everyone down in the fast lane by incessant gliding and not catching/pulling/propelling like proper, hard-working swimmers do. Preach your efficiency bullshit somewhere else and swim more, without judging other swimmers.
@Dero_milsurp5 жыл бұрын
David J ah, and here comes the insecure childish character attack because you want to make wild assumptions, state you’re not knowledgeable, and get offended when corrected. You want to tell me to my judge other swimmers yet want to harshly judge me because you don’t agree with nor understand what a skill drill is versus a race drill? The amount of hypocrisy and irony from that last comment is astounding.
