Hearing people from the US talk about being able to _'drive manual cars'_ never gets old.
@Nirawen
@Nirawen 3 жыл бұрын
@FireHazard TV We do but in Europe pretty much everyone learns to drive using a manual so to us their just 'cars', automatics are the mention-worthy outliers so kinda opposite.
@aroberts3213
@aroberts3213 3 жыл бұрын
You know why that is? Because since the beginning the US car market has been cheaper. Because of this we were the first to have fancy things like automatic transmissions, automatic windows, radios and many others. Now compare this to Europe were everything is more expensive. Fancy features like automatic transmissions never caught on because it was at first a more expensive luxury feature.
@normang3668
@normang3668 3 жыл бұрын
To be fair though, I use to work at a car rental agency and once had a customer visiting from the U.K. . . They asked me to explain to them how to drive an automatic, which is a bit more absurd than asking how to drive a manual, lol. While I kind of think everyone should learn to drive a stick shift, the way things are moving towards EVs, transmissions might entirely become a thing of the past. . . I dunno, the purist in me thinks it's sad that a lot of people in North America don't have a clue how to drive stick. However the realist in me thinks that it really doesn't matter and that manuals will soon die out completely.
@Nirawen
@Nirawen 3 жыл бұрын
@@normang3668 Yeah it's definitely going that way. For a long time in Europe we mostly got automatics in the form of long-distance vehicles like vans & people carriers which were shit so, much like the early diesel engines, they gained the stigma of being slow etc. Now the top end of the market with sports & luxury GT cars etc has been leaning towards automatics for performance while the low end of the market leans towards them for efficiency & longevity, add in the rise of electric-drive vehicles and manuals are steadily being pushed out of the market. As for why there's a regional disparity in gearboxes I think distance was also a large factor, the average commute is a lot longer in the US than Europe, especially the UK, so it becomes about quality-of-life. Same reason cruise-control never really took off here, we do a lot less motorway/freeway driving in comparison.
@captainjirk9564
@captainjirk9564 3 жыл бұрын
Manuals are so rare here. They're such a minority, especially where I live where it's more humid. I could theoretically drive a manual, I know the mechanics and theory and the operation of one but have never sat behind the wheel of a manual transmission car. It's on my bucket list, though.

Loved how supportive the instructors and crew were from drift101. They seemed so excited and happy for Niko and Sam. Great positive reinforcement.

Even though the sponsored content is integrated into their vids, the lads respect their viewers SO much that they put a timer on how long the ad runs for in the corner of the screen so you can skip it if you want. I fucking love these guys :)

this is not fair, niko car had better handling. You can see the adjustable suspension damper, adjustable caster, proper ride heights and nice camber, whilst the cop car had dead stock suspension and got too much body roll making it hard to drift.
@sharkeatsyou2905
@sharkeatsyou2905 3 жыл бұрын
StreetBreed North Borneo yeah I noticed that too. That’s probably why they did the handbrake turns/stops with the crown Vic and the actual drifting with the nissans and bmws
