Our OES is super chill. Very calm for the most part. She does get a little barky when excited. And very very attached to her people. She’s 2 and never runs off from her people like our last high energy dog (catahoula leopard dog). She has to be wherever we are. But her coat does take daily brushing and regular trimming of paws and bottom. We trim her down a couple times a year to stay cooler... and have less brushing.

When I lived in England years ago I had a neighbor in a typical terrace house (think small townhouse) who had three Old English and all on the large side. Since they didn't have any kids, the dogs used to love coming over and playing with ours in the front garden. Skip, the largest one, had the unnerving habit of sitting on a kid when he was done playing. This was accompanied by howls of laughter and giggling.

@Nil-tz6gy7 ай бұрын
Are they really as stubborn as people claim?
@marenjones66657 ай бұрын
@Nil-tz6gy They're not as eager-to-please as a lot of other herding breeds, but they're definitely not stubborn like a bloodhound or beagle. They tend to be very smart and very patient, and they like to take a bit to figure out new things, rather than charging in or running away immediately. This might be because they can't see much, on account of the fluf. Consider the blanket test, what was, for a long time, the standard test for doggie intelligence. You throw a blanket over a dog, and see how long it takes for them to pull it off. Most dogs try to pull the blanket off right away, but an OES probably won't. They might look around a bit, try to figure out what is going on, listen to the humans laughing at them, and so on, before trying to escape. Or, if they're not bothered, they may just lay there, because it really isn't that much heavier than their natural coat. They may even realize that this is funny and start playing. There's a lot of variety in their personality.

@littlecatfeet90642 жыл бұрын
Hard question. Maybe share this channel with them as a great channel for dog lovers and hope they take a hint? Or casually mention that you’ve seen an article or video about matting and how to deal with it. Many dog owners love their dogs more than they know how to care for them, and a gentle suggestion goes farther than criticism. Good luck. Sounds like the dog is lucky you care for her and notice.

So I’m a certified vet assistant and when vets have a dog that comes in looking rather…not well we can’t do much. We have to try and put the pieces together with what the owner says, we give them options to choose from on how they want to tackle whatever their animal is suffering with. I know this may not be exactly what a groomer does but it’s a bit similar (I would think), they’re not OUR dogs so we can’t force anyone into doing anything.

Actually, it does (not all breeds -- those with short fur don't work). I'm a Spinner/Weaver/Dyer, and I've used my dog's fur for spinning and weaving. Any breed that has a nice long undercoat works very well. As someone said below, it works better mixed with wool for better stability.

I grew up with an Old English Sheepdog! Loyal, loving, wonderful, funny dog! She was the best. I'd spend hours brushing all that hair. And they do get matted easily. When she got older, we kept her groomed with a short cut. And they never really walk....always a happy trot. ☺️❤️

I always loved how they portrayed it in the movie as being as layed back as possible and it seems to be consistent

What a good girl for her groom!! Y Mom's BFF had an old English sheepdog...his name was Tom. Such a calm, mellow breed. Great with kids, too 💖

I grew up with an English sheepdog They are EXCELLENT babysitters/guardians. My brothers and I have many fond memories of of our MANDY BEAR and the adventures she shared with us. It’s been 30plus years since she’s been gone and she is still missed

Roxie is such a good dog. But looking at the before and after, looks like a whippet. So cooool.
