I'm playing as the Jutes!! It's the year of 399 AD, and I rule over Alabu, Hafn, Angulus and Rugion! Soon I will attack my Allies which are the Geats and the Saxons, but I need to strenghten my armies first; so I'm two steps closer to fulfill the objectives; to conquer Scandza, Fiezia and Gothiscandza! I have a great economy 2200 each turn and almost done with the technology, so I can strenghten my forces with Nordic Warriors, Nordic Raiders and Nordic Brigands!!! I play on hard difficulty and have a general called Gandalfr!

*Update after part 3*, lionheart has since beginning of the Lp Won 4 battles and lost 0 battle. He fought 2 battles himself and auto resolve 2 battles. He killed 4915 men of the enemies and lost 2365 of his own men. Also lost 1218 men to friendly fire. *(i will recheck my friendly fire count look a bit too much for only 4 battles)*

how do you count friendly fire with the new system? I guess some of the difference could be tower kills?

Samuel Cameron depends what kind of battle, if its a normal battle without reinforcement then it pretty easy. But when there is reinforcement it just a nightmare for me cause i can only guess the number of kills made by the said reinforcement cause friendly fire is mix with it. For the tower kills/burning oil, i compensate by assuming 10% (increase or decrease if i need to) of the lost is that.

Samuel Cameron what i will end up doing is stop tracking friendly fire , am not very happy that there so much guessing in my numbers.

you should count friendly fire and defenses under the same number, like "friendly fire/siege defense"

Yeah it's clicking, but that's a big part of strategy games. So no worries, use whatever mouse is most comfortable for you.

The AI did very well in the first battle. They couldn't defend since there was a huge gaping hole in their wall and they would be sitting ducks to skirmishers. And LH's skirmishers got about 500 kills, which is a large portion of their army. If it wasn't for them, they would have gotten a lot more kills.

yeah don't praise the AI too much because when lionheart sent in his 2 cavs i was expecting every slingers to turn their way in butcher them in a huge volley yes it's been 7 years i just found that this game is underrated :p

Hey man,great stuff!Seems like a great game! I have 1 question though: at 6:39 you ordered your swordsmen to target 1 unit and they all attacked multiple enemies,how do you do that?

Makes sense for say Germanic and Norse factions to come out and fight defensively from a historical perspective. They preferred, and were equipped for, open combat hence they don't have gates. Not much sense in hiding behind a wall if you don't specialise in ranged combat. Keeps the game interesting too, I prefer the variety of tactics required to successfully siege over the rinse and repeat of previous TW entries 🙂

Watch out for the Geats. I am playing the Danes as well and they broke the non-aggression pack I had with them and took my capital while my armies were out fighting the rhugian.

Hey lionheart loving the LPs bro. May i make a research suggestion that has turned out to be a very worthwhile investment with any nordic faction...research Manoral Lands in the civic tree because it unlocks the building you need to make Viking Raiders...granted the cost to recruit them is a bit pricey compared to other early units but they more than pay for themselves once they start pillaging. By spring 402 AD with the Geats had almost all of northern europe conquered or allied with me. the Vikings were a huge part of that. Just a thought but yeah keep up the awesome work man!

I really really like the video. However I don't agree that the CPU plays more aggressive than it should for you have artillery and I think the plan is to take the battle on you before you kill a large number with the artillery. I consider it a logical tactic for the computer to go with. I really like the video though good job. :)

me and my mate started a Geats and Danes Co-op campaign and i got srewed up by everyone, never declared a war on anyone but everyone wanted a piece of the Danes, Him as my ally was forced to help in all my wars and got wrecked as well. He was pissed off for a day after that. Like , it wasnt my fault, haters gonna hate the Danes

you need to play the battles and record the replays so you can just be the camera man on these. Therefore you can zoom in more on the battle

Your danes are doing better than mine i got converged on by both enemies in the second turn.... so i went and resettled duna in the north // by the way the mouse is fine :D

I'm finding it quite hard, especially after playing Rome 2 on Hard and Very Hard. I've already lost 3 campaigns, 2 as the Ostrogoths and 1 as the Eastern Roman Empire.

i like attila a lot i would say, but balancing wise some things bother me. For exampe towers are really powerful.... packfilemanager managed to change this and also slowered the battles a little bit =)

LionHeart the mouse is fine, keep it. Also, the thing with the Saxons where you blindly accepted it happened to me as well, along with the same outcome. Keep up the good work and if you think you can't take a fight retreat, it's better to not lose your army at times.

Attila is OK, there are some things I like and some I don't. First off, I do quite enjoy how in-depth the family tree and government system is. But what really pushes my button is the lack of diversity in the look of troops, the overall types of troops you can recruit. For example, look at Rome 2, where each faction had a plethora of types of units to recruit over time, but in Attila, half the factions have basically the same units. Rome 2 seems so much more diverse in the fact that each faction had its own types of troops, each with their own look, while in Attila, it appears to be quite lacking in that aspect.

Thats true, and Id understand that if that was the case, but the units just seems so plain in ALL of the factions. I have yet to play all of the factions so maybe im just jumping to conclusions, but the variety just seems so dry compared to Rome 2.

Only played huns on hard must say they're fun but hard.. After Atilla became a general everybody declared war on me and the AI actually coordinate their attacks together in groups.

Seems to me that CA did the same mistake as on Rome II. By that I mean that they made the battle a simple arcade element, they didn't learn from their last game... It's beautifull, I can't deny that, but the battles are grim, bleak... We miss the old grinding feel of theses battles... Hopefully a mod will correct that.

Everyone complains about the AI in R2 which just stood there while under fire, now that the AI pushes out and attacks while under fire, the AI is just as bad apparently. Can't please everyone I guess.

Good points. However, winning negates losing. Actual historical friendly fire is usually ridiculously high. Reasons include inaccuracy, plethora of uniform type, fog of war issues, etc. Gamewise, , each new game needs new skills, as well as the old ones previously learned, and that takes time. Plus, he who doesn't intentionally try only wins unintentionally. Lionheartx10 tries a lot and tries often. For me, half the fun is laughing and grinding my teeth when a try turns out less than best. When a try works out well it is also telling and exciting. The worst thing, for me, are repeated mistakes - but those are usually from playing many games simultaneously.

Because the game runs at best at around 40-50fps right now on my system with max settings. So no point recording 60fps as it won't be. Also rendering videos after recording at 60fps takes nearly 3 times as long as a 30fps video. Its just not worth the extra time right now as while I render I cant record or do much else.
