Q: In custom battles or multiplayer the unit selection is missing units. A: All of the regionals cause a problem for the custom battle / multiplayer list. There is a special EDU for custom battles / multiplayer in the "...Rome- Total War\EB\mp custom game edu" folder. Rename your campaign EDU then place the EDU from that folder into the "...Rome - Total War\EB\Data" folder. When you want to play a campaign again, switch back to your original EDU. EB v1.1 now comes with the trivial script, which will automatically switch the files for you. To play custom battles or multiplayer battles with all of your factional units, run the "Play Multiplayer" option of the trivial script. -From the EB FAQ I mean, you probably don't plan to upload another video just for a custom battle, but still that's what was going on in case anyone wondered

One of my favorite playthroughs was as Baktria... I created an empire and had a fierce rivalry with the Seluicids... I created 4 armies and invaded Mesopotamia but they were able to hold me after I took Selucia but my empire still stretched from Mesopotamia to India. It was a great playthrough and it was nice having an AI that actually built armies and kept me on my toes. The population mechanic made it so I couldn't completely replenish my armies. After they held me I had to take a defensive posture until my armies were reinforced. By that time they had armies to match mine and even launched a counter attack into Persia which diverted my forces from continuing my conquests. I love EB

A few big differences you didn't go over: Units/Armies are costs are much higher in this game. Upkeep and Recruitment will affect your Economy greatly. Economies are harder to build. Mercenaries are extremely expensive, practically not worth it. Ships are ridiculously expensive, but definitely worth it. Conquering far-away lands are a bitch, because you can't restore your depleted armies that can only be recruited in your homelands. Characters and character traits are a big deal. They make a huge effect in the game. For example "Hale and Hearty" will give your general +3 hit points. There are some mining traits or retinue that will give you extra 30% mining income. Mining is a big deal in this game. Takes like 20 turns or some ridiculous amount but it is well worth it. Some settlements have special buildings that can be destroyed for a large sum, but many times are worth keeping. Certain settlements give you special troop units. For example 1. You can get CRETAN Archers in only Crete, Syria, and a few other settlements with a Type 4 gov't building... (i think u need type 4, it's been a couple years since I played this game.) These bitches are OP when you ship them to fight against barbarian nations. 2. Thracia has very cool unique units such as - Galatian Heavy Spearman and also those dudes who hold a large ass sword with 2 hands... Thraikioi Rhomphaiaphoroi (Elite Thracian Infantry) BATTLE MECHANICS Your control has to be much better in this game. For Example, Calvary will not charge properly unless you line them up and properly face them in the direction of your charge. Another big one- if you order your infantry to attack a group, but the AI charges a different enemy group at your unit, your unit will not do a good job of attacking this enemy group even though they are engaged in battle with each other. You must actually order your own unit to attack this new group of units that are engaged with your unit. Fatigue is a HUGE factor. And many units fatigue quickly, especially the heavy/armored units. Flanking makes a big difference. Units take a much longer time to die. Infantry vs infantry takes forever... this is when you use cavalry to rout them with a charge and easily clean them up. Calvary is the difference between a long battle and a quick one. Calvary actually does make a Great difference... especially for Clean Up. The difference between a close victory to possibly battle again versus a decisive victory to not have to battle again. Must hurry in late-game Sieges or you will run out of time. However, I like to have a timer, because it gives me an advantage if I'm heavily outnumbered whether it is a siege or a pitched battle. More importantly, it gives me a chance for my general to stay alive. An invaluable general that has been meticulously groomed with special traits and retinue for countless seasons. Okay... there's more, but i'm done. I love this game, forever
@kohgoomah01056 жыл бұрын
I’m Extremely honored to be highlighted in this channel! 2 last tips: “Favour of the gods” is probably the best trait in the game. And any characters with 4 names instead of the usual 3 will kick ass.... example: Publius Cornelius Scipio Asina (but don’t use this guy as faction heir [unlesss you are a beginner] because Cotta has more potential at 16 yrs old with great traits. This is just an example of a character with 4 names)

I remember downloading this mod. I liked the way it looked and the new factions but I found gameplay veeeery tedious. I remember being confused about government types and some other things. Two things that I hate most are the fact that most units are regionally restricted (which makes you armies look like dog's breakfast) and the fact that they are not colour coded by faction (romans should be red so I could tell my units apart from the enemy's; I really don't care if they were red historically but it makes for a better gaming experience)

A note for those who don't know about the "length of battle" and how long they seemingly take compared to Rome Total War Vanilla. The ED squad decided to add a more robust/realistic moral system to their units. A good to great general 4+ stars with an army of capable units that have 1-2 experience chevrons will be a formidable foe indeed. In vanilla Rome so often the unit cohesion was fantastically unrealistic. The trained Roman Hastati ranks and especially the trained Greek hoplites should have been able to maintain an order of battle and remain in their trained stances during a melee. E.B. I&II take this into account and it really gives the feel of slogging through a bruising bloody battle that may swing back and forth and that one opening taken advantage of at that one moment can win the day. I really admire this Mod as much for the battle AI as much as the time and work put into creating the more logical systems for the economy etc. etc, This is basically what happens in this mod. Your troops will def. react well to keeping your line's flanks protected and all the other tricks and such a good general can employ to make success a more realistic prospect. In vanilla Rome units take some casualties , run away, regroup and just stand around until ordered back to the fight by which time other units are chain routing...and once a unit has been shaken they were much more likely to be unable to fight again effectively in a single battle in Rome I. Give Europa Barbarorum a try. The battles are fabulous at times and due to their better pacing but the org. battle to shame. BTW. Peace 2 you LegendofTotalWar. Europa Barbarorum mods both I&II need mad love and this vid was a very decent introduction. P.S. I also mod back in the Rome Total War music....the way to go imho! Rock on folks!

From your description it definitely sounds worth checking out. The govt system you described actually reminds me of (and maybe that's what model they built it on) of how Roman society during the empire period was structured - in terms of how they had varying levels of citizenship and semi-citizenship that were open to different people depending on where they lived in the empire. very similar to what you described - only certain populations were eligible for full roman citizenship, which came with certain perks and rights etc, but the populations of client states that were brought into the empire over time would be granted limited version of citizenship (I can't remember the actual term for it) that afforded some rights to these peoples, but not the full deal. As such, one of the ways the Romans bought allegiance from the aristocracy of newly conquered or absorbed areas was to offer the ruler and their family and maybe a limited number of the higher-ups full roman citizenship, whereas the rest of the population were granted the limited variety. Anyrate, what you described very much sounds like an approximation of that - which is really cool and an interesting dynamic to add to the game which makes it feel much more historically aligned, which is a big plus in my book. great review and good suggestion.

Battles last longer eh? I played the Expanded Greek Mod and the first battle as Rome against Prryhus was a devastating defeat for me because of how tough units were compared to vanilla and how long they would stay in combat, I lost momentum. When I tried again, and I mean really tried, I won the battle with under a 1/3 of my force lost (mostly skirmishers and cavalry) using skirmish and luring tactics and the battle took me well over an hour. The battle though was probably one of the most realistic in terms of how it went. Lots of posturing pre-battle, forming ranks and maneuvering for any possible advantage. A proper skirmishing phase with light troops and cavalry, cavalry engagements on the wings, harassing enemies lines with what was left of the skirmishers after theirs were finished. The Hastati advanced on the Phalanxes, after a brief period Prryhus committed himself and I committed my centre princeps and hit them with cavalry and skirmishers in melee from behind and rolled the enemy line from centre to flanks. I trust your opinion and so I'm gonna give this mod a try! A new challenge is always welcome and I hope I can have some more really cool moments

I'm playing this mod right now. Was a diehard fan of the original EB on Rome, and I say this iteration is a much-improved and worthy successor. It's a lot more stable on Medieval II than it was on Rome 1, while the hard-coded limits allow for more units, more territories, more factions, and more gameplay mechanics (castles representing nomadic camps in this mod, for example). The game is definitely far far slower than normal TW gameplay (I'm nearing 100 turns in my Kimmerios Bosporos campaign and have ONLY JUST NOW subdued the Sauromatae, expanding my empire to a glorious 10 territories - or rather 10 allied tribes, in the mod's internal logic!), but I actually like it, as it allows for more realistic movement rates across the campaign map, seasons and more character development. Everything being so expensive forces you to prioritize your goals and sometimes sacrifice settlements to save your troops, always planning long-term. I found that a nice change of pace from my usual unchallenged steamroll across the map. The one thing I don't like is how damn long it takes to break through a chokepoint in siege battles.

EB is just a beast as a mod. It turns Rome 1 into a better experience than all of Rome 2 and Attila combined.

I'd be kinda interested in seeing you play more with unplayable factions that are missing basic components of the game or have features no other faction has; it really changes things up. Like Rebels from Med 2's general campaign- tons of borderline useless manpower tied up in tiny spread-out armies, agents that spawn on their own and cannot be recruited like witches, and the weirdness of low public order spawning rebel troops on your side, incentivizing you to destroy courthouses (in true smelly peasant rebellion fashion, of course) and jack up taxes on your fellow revolutionaries.

Nice review. Would also be interested to hear your opinion about the Darthmod for the Empire Total War. For me, that mode changed the game completely for me and made it actually quite enjoyable, but also challenging.

This is the best mod of all time. It is so meticulously researched. And you can tell how much it influenced Rome 2's unit visuals which was one of the few things Rome 2 did right was actually make historically accurate, unique and varied units. However if you're not a history nerd I don't see it being that great as the load times are forever. The most fun factions are by far the Arabs and the Bactrians

Best mod bar none, and better than the base game by far. Probably spent 100s of hours playing it. A lot of the overworld tracks for eastern factions are pleasant to listen to, but the celtic/barbarian tracks tend to be headache-inducing.

Dude, it should probably be mentioned here that they have actually continued the development and are I believe two or three versions further by now. This is 1.1 and I think the current one is 1.3C or something, and they really improved on several issues. If anyone thinks about getting this, make sure it's the most current version for stability sake alone. It's worth it, I promise. If you like deep and intense campaigns, this is the best Total War "game" of all time IMO.

There are some decent ideas for the mod that I liked, but there are a number of things that kill this mod A) Unit costs are ridiculous in terms of actual effectiveness of troops. Apparently the modders believe a javelin skirmisher is worth more than an archer (specifically a Toxotae) which is ridiculous, and it gets worse for cavalry units. You pretty much can't afford anything but light cavalry which is worthless outside of routing defeated units and these units are priced in a way where you would rather have more infantry or skirmish units than one cavalry unit. B) Coupled with the above problem is the fact that the AI doesn't seem to want to fight pitched battles. Instead most battles pretty much devolves into sieges which is in general par for the course for this series (minus Empire and Napoleon unless the city has walls), but guess what that means That means even if you could afford expensive units like cavalry, you're not going to use them in a siege effectively making cavalry pointless in this mod and the overall experience boring. C) Every other enemy AI general is overpowered especially Parthian AI generals. In my experience, this has been something common in Rome and Medieval 2 Total War along with some of their mods, but this mod somehow makes this problem even worse. These freaking pos will annihilate your troops if you're not careful. I have countless times had these generals crash right in front of my pike (or spear) units while in pike formation no less, and they still defeat them. That is complete, utter BS. D) Enemy morale is clearly buffed in higher difficulties. In general, I never minded too much that the AI either cheats a little or is given a few buffs considering how dumb the AI can be, but again, this mod seems to take things way too far. I have countless times not been able to break most enemy infantry units even when they are A) tired if not exhausted, B) their general died, C) I have them attacked on at least 2 sides and finally D) they've been reduced well below half their strength. In pretty much any other Total War game or mod even in the hardest difficulties, you would either quickly or instantly route a unit if you achieved one or two, never mind all four, of the above conditions (excepting general units or some kind of hero/elite unit), but in this mod there is a good chance the enemy unit will still fight on. Your units though will easily break of course.

Late to the party, I know, but I'm not really sure what you're trying to claim with this comment. A) For instance, you seem unaware that 120 (the number of men in an Akontistai unit) is bigger than 60 (the number of men in a Toxotai unit), which means that the total cost of the unit does not equally reflect the cost per man for both units. Akontistai are also better equipped and do more damage. Cavalry is expensive but extremely powerful, if used right. B) Campaigns devolving into endless sieges is a RTW problem, so not specific to this mod in particular. C) Are you playing on H or VH battle difficulty? If you are, you have NO excuse because that means that not only you don't know how to count up to 120, but also you didn't read the FAQ, which is the first thing you do when installing a mod. The FAQ clearly state that the game is balanced for M battle difficulty. The fact that those bodyguards are among the most powerful units in the whole game doesn't help. D) From this I'm pretty certain that you play on H or VH, and this reinforces the fact that you didn't read the FAQ. The AI gets hardcoded battle bonuses at higher difficulties, which are unmodifiable by mods. This means that on top of not knowing how to count up to 120 and not reading the FAQ, you also don't know the game that you're playing and you're blaming the mod instead. To sum up, the only thing that you displayed with your comment is that you played battles where you weren't able to count the men inside your own units, in a mod which you didn't read the FAQ for, on a game that you don't know. So again, I'm not sure what your point is.
