Ramesses also relates how, in the second year of his reign, he defeated these people in a naval battle off the coast of Egypt. Ramesses allowed the Sea Peoples' war ships and their supply and cargo vessels to approach the mouth of the Nile where he had a small Egyptian fleet positioned in a defensive formation. He then waited in the wings for the Sea Peoples to attack what seemed to be an insignificant force before launching his full attack upon them from their flanks and sinking their ships. This battle seems to have involved only the Sherdan Sea Peoples or, at least, they are the only ones mentioned because, after the battle, many were pressed into Ramesses' army and some served as his elite body guard. Ramesses, always very confident in his inscriptions, gives the impression that he had neutralized the threat of the Sea Peoples but his successors' inscriptions tell another story.

I highly doubt it, considering there is very little evidence of famous battles that would warrant a famous battle mode. Because the collapse of the Bronze Age was in 1200 BCE. You have the archaeological records of a major battle taking place in North German around 1200 though, but obviously the game is focused on Egypt. I hope they add the likes of Mycenae, Phoenicia, Assyria, Babylon, Troy et cetera in a future DLC.

Nice that we have a proper endgame scenario - Realm Divide, the Three Kingdoms, are all things that make the campaign more fun that we know we're approaching them. Troy didn't really have a proper endgame scenario apart from your antagonist faction so the Sea Peoples looks like a nice change! I assume this is shown on the default Sea People settings and already looks very challenging - imagine cranking it up to max in the customization settings. I am definitely going to do that with a Šuppiluliuma campaign given that the Hittite Empire collapses historically due to the Collapse.

This isn't the same sadly. The way it works is there is a wave of invaders every 5-10 turns. These include the sea people, but also include tribes in each region. These happen from the very start after turn 5/10. So for example, you can own all of Egypt, and have 15-20 armies randomly spawn there every 5 turns for the whole campaign.

Merenptah continued to be troubled by the Sea Peoples who allied themselves with the Libyans to invade the Nile Delta. Merenptah writes how, in the fifth year of his reign (1209 BCE) Mereye, the chief of the Libyans, allied with the Sea Peoples to invade Egypt. He refers to the Libyan allies as coming "from the seas to the north" and names the territories as Ekwesh, Teresh, Lukka, Sherden, and Shekelesh. Scholars have since tried to identify where these lands were and what names they came to be known by but without success. There are as many theories surrounding who the Sea Peoples were as there are scholars to refute them. Whoever they were, Merenptah describes them as formidable adversaries and, in his inscription on the walls of the Temple of Karnak and on the stele from his funerary temple, takes great pride in defeating them

@jadelhoch
@jadelhoch 9 ай бұрын
I would also love to see Greece, western Anatolia, and Mesopotamia, but, honestly, that would probably mess up the way the game works at the moment. Where would the Sea Peoples spawn? Wouldn’t the Lukka already have territory in Lycia? Would there be new, foreign titles to try and usurp (Wanax of Greece, etc.)? And would these expansions take Egypt out of focus? If this was truly the “definitive Bronze Age game”, maybe, but it seems like it’s supposed to be an Egyptian “Saga” title.

Pharaoh Thutmose III conducted at least 16 campaigns in 20 years. American Egyptologist James Breasted referred to him as "the Napoleon of Egypt" for his conquests and expansionism Thutmose III is recorded to have captured 350 cities during his rule and conquered much of the Near East from the Euphrates to Nubia during seventeen known military campaigns. He was the first pharaoh after Thutmose I to cross the Euphrates, doing so during his campaign against Mitanni. His campaign records were inscribed onto the walls of the temple of Amun at Karnak (transcribed in Urkunden IV). He transformed Egypt into an international superpower by creating an empire that stretched from the Asian regions of Syria to the North, to Upper Nubia to the south.

Well as the video describes, the collapse is not *just* the Sea Peoples, but a system encompassing a large number of cities called 'pillars of civilization', which as they are destroyed over the campaign, make the campaign world grow increasingly dangerous and isolated. The Sea Peoples become more powerful and more aggressive as the world descends into a state of civilization collapse.

This game looks amazing so far. Please consider adding Babylon and Medo-Persia in as a dlc. I would love to see the ishtar gates as well as massive hanging gardens in the ancestral capitals of the achaemenid empire. I know thats several hundred years in the future but i think there's a lot you could do with all the massive ziggurat cities of the Sumerians, Babylonians, and Assyrians. Whos with me?!

@lp4514 9 ай бұрын
Achaemenid empire is probably a bit unlikely in a game about the Bronze Age, although I too would love to see that as some form of DLC campaign. We also had Charlemagne in Attila, so who knows. But I think it would work best as part of a Alexander the Great DLC campaign/expansion and that's probably more fitting to a potential Rome 3 than a Late Bronze Age TW. What I'm also interested in, even if it probably wouldn't be that interesting for most people in terms of battles is to go back in time to Sumerians and Akkadians. But either way they definitely have to add Mesopotamia with Babylon, Assyria and Elam to the game to make it a true Bronze Age game.

I feel the same! At first, I was a bit skeptical about its cartoony, "Troy"-style graphics, its shortage of unique skins for soldiers and generals/faction leaders, and most of the other factors that robbed "Troy" of much of its potential. That being said, my 60-turn playthrough of Irsu really did change my mind, especially whenever I battled the Sea Peoples or had to engage in diplomacy with my neighbors, who were able to band against me at times. I'm saving Ramesses' campaign for the full playthrough, as I can't wait to unify all of Egypt by the 1180s BC and re-enact his desperate battles with the Sea Peoples and Libu tribes. I will admit that I did bite the bullet and spend the $90, just because I figured I'd take the risk with the hope that future faction packs will expand the map (apart from Alashiya, who else would we want to play as in the game as it stands?), and because I'm hoping that the campaign DLC will either be a Ramesses II, Hyksos, Exodus, or Greece-Mesopotamia expansion. That being said, I'm with you on hoping for the best now that I've seen more of it!

They definitely are. Every other video I've seen people are making comments about how this is just an updated Troy and how it's going to be a saga game, how they're leaving out a mass amount of content just for future DLCs etc and so far in this comment section not a single negative comment about any of that. The math just doesn't add up.

This guy is my favorite. The narrator that is. I like his humor a lot! That and the way he slid a kemetic word in there is wonderful, i wish I could have an AAR or narrated series of him playing through this. Also? This is perfect. The only thing you could do better noe is expand the map, give us Assyria, Ur, Babylon and of course, if you feel ambitious, the Aegean. I like it as it is, i look forward to playing it as it is. Super excited for all of the colossal battles, territorial sacrifices, court intrigues, and Sea People factions and generals I'll get to write the history of once this comes out! I'm not satisfied with just the Battle of Djahy and the Battle of the Delta; I can't wait to defend every inch of Egyptian and Canaanite soil! Though, as for me, I'll try to unify all of Egypt under my direct rule before facing off against the Sea Peoples and Libu; I don't want Amenmesse to live past 1198 BC, Seti past 1197 BC, or Tausret beyond 1189 BC!

@jadelhoch
@jadelhoch 9 ай бұрын
@@Toyodas I'm no bot; I'm just an avid historical gamer who sees the potential in a game exploring an under-utilized period of history. Believe me; I'd also love to see an Empire 2: Total War with better character models, a functioning AI, and greater scope than the first. I'd love to see a Victorian/American Civil War and World War I "Total War" games, or a Mughal: Total War. Yet I am also super excited to play this game, as a lover of Ancient Egyptian history, and as someone who has played all 60 turns of my Irsu campaign in early access. I understand other players' disappointment that we may have to wait years to see the games we've been vocal about, yet I don't think that bitterness towards your fellow players is going to do any good for CA's plans or your mental health.

We still have promised Expansion Pack - I would like to see it Mesopotamia centred - with Assyrians, Kassite Babylonians and Elamites. I guess Chaldeans and Arameans will work in a same way as Libians & Phrygians now - as barbarian invaders.

The contrast and brightness shown in this video looks nothing like the gameplay videos from content creators. Also the gameplay itself doesn't show even half of what the commentator talks about! "We managed to flank the enemy and rout them" shows no enemy unit routing but just the face of the enemy general dead... so funny that the commentator dialog is not in sync with what happens on the screen. If you guys fail at that imagine something more complex like the game mechanics itself 😥
