Suppiluliuma and the hittites looks really fun, like the rest of the game overall. I know there will be DLCs, and like a few others, it would be nice to have the map expanded to Babylon and the sumerian lands, as well as expanding the existing factions with more hatti leaders and a few different cultures. Overall excited for this game, shame to see the other fans drown up the hype.

Holly, that gameplay was so beautiful I shed a tear for its beauty. The Hittite - "Mesopotamiam" melancholic chants made all this feel all the more real, the lighting, the mechanics, the spear fights... This character seems to embody this game's theme SO PERFECTLY! Congrats Sofia! I am still waiting to buy the game on physical edition on December, but I will enjoy this game as a glorious Bronze Age master piece like there hasn't been one ever!

I've always liked the idea of not just having Empire Building as a goal for all factions in all Total war games, but other goals as well. Like surviving a civilization-ending challenge! I also like defensive factions, so I think my first campaign will be with this guy 😊
@garyli4909

Have you played Total War: Attila? It's a total war game where you can play the massive Rome empire to survive the attack of the hordes and build your empire up. That game is not an idea, and it's way cheaper than this game. Also lots of modding support.
@DonCorleone964
@DonCorleone964 11 ай бұрын
@@garyli4909 I have not tried that one, since I have no interest in the time period. But, as you indeed guessed, I approve of the concept. I have, however tried to prevent the Han Empire from collapsing in Three Kingdoms. Jolly good fun :) But these examples are just two out of many, many, many other Total War campaigns where strict Imperialism is the only way to go. In Pharao, ALL factions need to survive the natural disasters, unrest and the sea peoples. That is the interesting bit for me. When I mentioned the idea of non-empire building factions, avoiding collapse was just the relevant case in point, since we are talking about Pharao. I would like to have other types of victory, more like Civilization. For instance, I would like to play a version of Empire Total War where France can have a cultural objective, where they win because most other factions idealize them (their fashion, their mannerisms, their language, their philosophy, their policies e.t.c). That would be awesome! A sort of soft power victory condition :D

I prefer historical TW over Warhammer TW, but I'm not a purist about what historical TWs have to be. I like the blending of historical strategy/tactics with leader-based approach of each faction and an ominous societal collapse / invasion that echoes Chaos from WH. My biggest concern is replayability. Even with several leaders per faction I feel like replayability will be limited and my enthusiasm is further dulled when I know CA is going to fill in the rest of the map with DLC factions. I think we should have gotten at least 2 more factions just to give some variety.

In Warhammer they made warriors of chaos the launch DLC, but honestly it was a meh campaign. But I liked them as an enemy a lot, way more than the TWW3 implementation of Chaos as enemies (and I don't like playing chaos, so I don't really care how they play personally). I wouldn't have minded (in fact I'd have preferred it) if Chaos was just kept as an unplayable doomsday horde with no settlements. I'd prefer if they make the sea peoples the same way. It adds to their mystique if they are just 'from the west' and a bunch of raiders that invade from the western edge of the map moving eastwards. In DLCs I'd be far more interested in seeing them expend eastward towards Babylonia than westward. Maybe Greece is cool as an expansion (as long as it is age appropriate and not classical greece like they completely screwed up Egypt in Rome 2 and basically made you travel over 1000 years back in time.) I'm much more interested in the east than the west though. If I designed this game I'd keep the sea peoples home lands off the map and really make it an invasion. It's the bronze age collapse, not the let's conquer the west before they attack. That would be super anticlimactic imho, in the same way that I personally heavily preferred Chaos in WH1 and 2 over WH3.

Imagine getting defeated by a king whose name you can't even pronounce. Anyway, I can imagine the backstory of the group of Sea Peoples sailing for the Hittite Empire. After burning Troy to the ground, Agamenon and Friends learned too late that they not only screwed up commerce in the Mediterranean for everyone including themselves but the plunder they took from the city were not enough to keep their palaces and fortresses from falling into disrepair and their societies from collapsing. Wishing to save what's left of their civilization, they (or rather their descendants) decided to sail for the rest of Asia Minor...

It is nice to see a game that deals with the Bronze Age collapse. I see some people getting upset about some of the creative liberties that the devs took, but in some of these cases we really don’t have any good sources of the matter. Unit composition or tactics for example: I know of no Hittite or Akkadian text that really give a good overview. And if you really look in depth at other pre modern time periods our sources might be better, but far from painting a clear picture either. Look at the Early imperial roman army: every one knows a century has 80 soldiers, a cohort 560 and a legion 5600 +/- auxiliaries and losses. But these numbers come from Vegetius who wrote at the end of the 4. century and if we take a look at the consonants tablets or barrack layouts it really seems to vary. This is why reconstructions are never going to be perfect, if it is a picture in a history book or a game, there always will be the point where a decision will have to be made in a situation where no expert would back it. Sure, there is a point where historical inaccuracies will destroy your immersion, but I don’t see that anywhere here. If the game turns out to be fun, I am sure that everyone will look past some slight inaccuracies or creative liberties that were taken. Rome 1 was a great game and the Ptolemaic dynasty was riding around in a thousand year old chariots.

they are very, very different games - perhaps not at its core or some UI elements, but how the campaign is progressed, how units are balanced and the roles heros, traits, ancillaries, and equipment play seem pretty incompatible. That is to say, their balances are independent because they were developed to be independent. This is in contrast to Warhammer series, where the games were always intended to be played together so the battle balance, mechanics, and campaign were tailored accordingly.

@@Pelagion98it would seem like the timeline of Troy would have to be increased so that it matches the timeline of the Pharao campaign? Is that right? In that case the game would at least not begin with the Troy heroes leading their factions I guess... It would be a sandbox alternate history game if they were to be combined, so the objectives would be different than what the factions have in their original games. This is just speculation on my part, of course. But I gladly speculate on this because I really hope that a combined campaign will happen! :)

@@Varuna2098 First, I thought it was obvious that the two games are from the same era, otherwise I don't think someone would wonder if they could be combined. :) Second, there was ideed a historical trojan war, but the foundational principle of TW Saga Troy is that it is semi-mythological (which I love by the way. TW Saga Troy is my favourite TW). The historical and mythological campaigns are modifications of the standard campaign. So, the timeline of the game is the short period of 20 years or so (as I understand it) that homers Illiad refers to. Makes sense, since Saga game handles a shorter time scale than a standard total war. Lastly, from what I understand, Pharao is more of a historical game with knowledge gaps filled in by educated guesses. Also, since it is a standard Total War I assumed that the time scale would be longer than a Saga title. Both of these aspects would indicate that a joined map would have to join the historical campaign version of Troy with Pharao so that the Trojan war would only be a part of a larger scale campaign, and this means that there would have to be other, or at least more, campaign goals and characters. That is why I concluded that it would have to be an alternate possible history sandbox campaign, which I would be very interested in trying :D

dear CA Sophia, playing Hittites with the Egyptians UI is really an eyesore. the Hittites and the Canaanites are different civilizations and should have their own UI in both campaign and battle. plus those blue text boxes announcing natural disasters are really bad. I would like to see a movie or at least a thematic 2D graphic

Although it would certainly be nice for flavour to have different UI elements for Hatti and Canaan, it's only Warhammer that changes the UI depending on your faction. No matter who you play as in Rome 2 will still have you with a Roman/Greek-based UI, for example.
