Thanks for casting Heir! I chose Seleucids first and Hamilkar did a great counter pick with Egypt. If you notice the army composition he had a total of 10 units that could throw projectiles into my elephants! I was super lucky that they lasted as long as they did. If only they had lasted juuuuust a bit longer I might have pulled it out. I too was surprised at how poorly my silvershield swordsman did. I think I got off a good charge but perhaps it was the shield wall from the thorax + possible focus fire onto my gen from his jav units?

Hard to add in elephants + cataphracts + enough infantry to field a decent army size. Plus I knew that the best cav that Egypt could bring was the Egyptian Cav - something I knew my medians could take on 1 on 1.

I get the argument for the cataphracts but definitely that not why Poccopacs lost. Cataphracts won't do as much damage as what this elephant unit did already, it almost shifted the tide of battle.

One more thing, the silver shields ate like 4 volleys of slinger fire before ever engaging... their HPs were low across the board. I'm a firm advocate of not lining him up in the front ever unless you are absolutely devoid of reserve infantry. Actually apply that to any elite infantry.

It's odd, I seem to remember seeing Egypt all the time in the early stages of the game, but after a few patches they seemed to disappear without a trace. Haven't seen them appear on this channel for months. Any idea what specific change threw them out?

The tournament did not allow barbarian factions, which led to us seeing factions being used such as Egypt and the Seleucids.

If you charge your cav into an enemy's infantry, you can spam move orders by clicking behind the infantry and if your cav is of a certain mass, ie. heavy cav/ super heavy cav etc. you can pull the cavalry straight through a dense infantry formation. It is game abuse really. Say if you have your archers behind your main line, they can pull their cav straight through your infantry like it wasn't there and charge and kill all your archers without having to try and flank and outmaneuver you to get at them as would happen conventionally.

I've yet to play a Total War game, going to start though with the upcoming Warhammer one (sorry in advance to all you trve Total War fans), can anyone explain the rules of: - No artillery / What artillery units are there in this game and why are they disallowed? - No boxing / What is boxing and why is it disallowed? - No redline camping / Something to do with starting positions? Does it mean you are not allowed to stay in starting area? Disallowed because starting positions may be really good and you win more easily if you just defend? - No deliberate pull through / What is a pull through and why is it disallowed? - No nomads, no barbarians / Are these faction-types or a sort of extra unit anyone can hire and why is it disallowed?

Artillery includes ballistas, onagers, and scorpions. Artillery is COMPLETELY useless on land battles usually, but when they get lucky shots (or when a player is manually aiming them) they can be a nuisance. They are banned to avoid camping and use of the manual aim feature. Boxing is the act (usually with pikes) of forming a box/square with your men, pikes facing outward, and is regarded as a "noobish" tactic (in the sense that is requires little skill, and that pikemen in a box are pretty much unbeatable).

According to the Honga stats, Egyptian cavalry has, in comparison to Median Cavalry, superior melee attack and defense, while costing 20 talents less. Median cavalry only has superior morale and armor. In a straight match up, it's actually a much closer fight than you give them credit for, Heir. Perhaps experiment with them a little. I saw a match earlier on Maximus' channel where an Egyptian/Seleucid battle with similar compositions ended similarly; the Egyptian cavalry seemed to have performed there quite admirably.

im new to the game and I see myself trying to pick infantry that has Javelins and cause I don't know the units well, a lot of times I pick wrong, is there a sign or something that will let me know at the time I pick my army, who has them and who doesn't ?

How the hell those elephants dealt such damage??? He did everything right to counter them, he had EIGHT units with 5 javelins and 80 range. More than half of his army could throw javelins, they werent bloobed, he did it right and almost lost it. How???? Yes, I know, is the msot expensive unit in the game, but come on. They sould have been neutralized with less than 200 kills, and about 50 friendly kills, maybe more. they hit their own general. While running amock, elephants fear effect should affect both players

devoyinator Only the last 200 were against blobed infantry. I think Hamilcar gone desperate trying to bring them down throwing more and more infatry into the grinding machine which racked up the kill count. Well you've seen it too. None would expect these elephants to last that long!
