If you think is just a "game" you are totally wrong. This REALLY HAPPENS life in the past. Search "Nossa Senhora da Graça incident" where the Japanese Arima clan attack a Portuguese black ship from a rude and criminal capitain Andre Pessoa and literally takes 3 DAYS and HUNDRED of losses to sink the ship!. Sometimes is amazing that a game is close to reallity.

I was once playing with the chosokabe and was in the late game, the date had a massive navy and managed to capture the black ship, only they got badly fucked in the process since I was in war with them, I couldnt let them keep it, I then proceeded to send one sengoku bune to kill their crew of 10. I won every naval engagement from then on

Btw the black ship is not a frigate , or a galley(totaly different, i guess u never seen a galley) and it isnt a man o war (different time periods) , it is a traditional portuguese ship , a Nau.

It is not a Nau really, it is more of a carrack due to its more prominent stern and forecastle, as well due to its relation between width and length. Also, it makes this theory more plausible taking into account its military pourpuse (30 cannons up to 48 on ships of this type), while naos, for example the Victoria, were more commonly used for expeditionary pourpuses. But it is not certainly a galleon (my favorite ship), which were way more commonly used by Spain, which derived precisely from carracks, being larger, more resistant, more powerful in all senses (there were galleons that carried 60, 70, 80 and even 138 cannons, such as the Adler von Lübeck). War machines that terrified their enemies, and that converted Spain into the world's most powerful naval superpower during 200 years. A frigate, a fast, less armed vessel, made for exploration and that depends of other larger ships for military missions does not fit this ship's description.

@@holabuenas7200 a carrack and a nau are very similar ships. But since this is a portuguese ship i would bet on it being a nau. Naus also had canons, and the triangular sails are more common in naus then carracks. But it could be a carrack too. Its hard to distinguish them

i know its an older video but ffs warcry does not stack and you pop it too far away 1/2 the time your ship archers would do more if you positioned them differently your ships would route less if you had the admiral nearby (park him in front of or behind the black ship) have a 2nd ship ready to board immedietly after the first one breaks off. There are 2 advantages to this, 1 the black ship will never get to shoot its guns because it will always be in boarding action, and 2 the black ships morale will tank because being part of a boarding action win or lose lowers morale.

I recommend 2 Bow Kobayas, and the rest are Medium Bune, you will use the Kobayas to distract the guns of the Black Ship the 2 Kobayas will distract in 2 direction NE and NW, while they are distracting Medium Bunes should board the Black Ship while its underfire by the rest of medium bune. Do not forget to use Warcry to easily outmatch the European Swordsman.

Sometimes, I wonder what must have been going through the Aztecs, Mayans, Native Americans, Japanese, or others when first experiencing gunpowder the hard way. The Japanese didn't experience the gunpowder the "hard way". They traded weapons (among other things) with Europeans, but used them against each other.

@@andoniarmentia1024 : I get that, but they still tried to go up against a gargantuan & heavily armed ship that outclassed essentially everything they had. The only reasons they "won" after three or four days of combat was because the Black Ship was running out of ammunition and the crew was exhausted. So the captain rugged the ship to blow after the majority abandoned ship so that the Japanese couldn't get their hands on it.

Idk if anyone's told you or if you've figured it out by yourself but the reason your ships were moving slowly was because they were set to slow speed. In the bottom left below the avatar there are chevrons indicating speed (1-3), and if you press the '+' it will increase the speed. Took me a while to notice it because it's such a redundant feature and it's not advertised very well. But yeah I also want to know why ships behave in such weird ways, seems buggy.

a better strategy would be to use only bow kobayas and songoku bunes. use the bows to set the ship on fire and use the sengokus to board. Or convert to jesszus and use two nanban trade ships

As a christian faction the nanban trade ships are amazing if you wanna board the black ship, you just need some decoys so to give them a chance to get close and the battle is pretty much over...

I agree. The trained soldiers on board the sengoku bunes are strong enough to defeat the Black Ship. Maybe the black Ship will repell one or two of the sengoku bunes, but then, it should be over. Using Bow Kabuyas is a good choice too but be careful with your fire arrows. You might burn the Black Ship down.

You could probably kamikaze a bunch of cheep ships with fire arrows and fire bombs to wipe out the black ship. You'll lose a bunch of ships, but you'll get the black ship out of their hands and it should respawn. That's what I ended up having to do, when it was captured by an AI with multiple fleet stacks.

when I attack I'd use a fleet of just sengoku bunes. I would spread out as wide as possible this means the enemy ship has to turn to fire upon each ship during the boarding phase (when you've managed to get your first ship to board) line up the rest of your ships at front and back of the enemy and board one at a time

Got lucky i had Black Ship flanked and stuck. Won it with like 5 ships and 10min of arrows. Ships get stuck many times in sea battles in Shogun2.

European ships are REALLY OP. But, that is actually realistic. The autoresolve algorithm however sees only numbers, and miss exactly HOW OP IT IS. That is suprisingly the key to capturing it quicker. Yes it is risky, as you may accidentally sink it (so maybe avoid such a tactic in an ironman playthough), but if you can get autoresolve to damage the ship, taking out some of the cannons, it becomes WAY easier to board. While autoresolve might lead to it capturing your ships, there is acually a good chance those ships become a shield for you, becouse of friendly fire.

I tried as the shimazu had a bunch of heavy bunes to take the fire and to bord with their roughly 100 men the chosokabe declared war on me and flung a million tiny ships at my trade routes ruining my economy and allowed the black ship to pass while my navy was tied down

Just found this. I played as Date. It was a late game and I just found it(is it weird?) down where it spawns. I started prepare 2 full fleets of tanks plus bunes and quick arrow. I slowly surround both 2 fleet around it, use the small ship to draw fire from the heavy crew ship while moving all of the boarding ships to its blind spot and slowly and painfully trying to board. Continuously board on both sides while firing arrows. in the end lost many small ships and 1 big ship that almost make it to the board but exploded. pretty easy if you ask me.

seriously, just make three fullstacks of few medium bune and lots lots of trade ship and autoresolve. One might underestimate trade ship because they tend to surrender/rout in a manual fight but in autoresolve, trade ship is somehow have decent chance to capture, and getting sunk, but it is worth it, bcs you gonna dispose the rest of em after capturing the black ship anyway

I often use 10 tradeships, 3 bow kobaya, and 2 medium bune and auto resolve to capture the Blackship 😂. Believe me it works so crazily. Or you just auto resolve with the total number men of tradeship and bow kobaya at about 500 to 550. Always a Heroic Victory and a captured Blackship 😂.

I'd say beating the black ship is by far easier as a christian faction because the have access to the nanban trade ships quite early on if you make a nanban trade port, now these ships are still midgets armed with toothpicks compared to the black ship provided you don't use them correctly.The way I did it was to have around two of them In my navy along with a couple sengoku bune and bow kaboya for mobility. So I basically put my sengoky bune In the centre along with half of my bow kaboya and one nanban ship on each flank accompanied with some bows and started the battle by sending my centre forward to threaten the ship so it would focus them while my bows flanked him from both directions and started shooting away. I'd then move asangoku bune in to board just to buy mo other ships time and would disengage when the timing was right, then I'd board the ship with one nanban ship while I put my other one on the other side so It could shoot barrage after barrage untill they eventually submitted. In the meantime if you try this it's a good idea to repair any damaged decoy ships while the black ship is occupied. Despite having barely taken any shots lots of my decoys were almost unusable fuing the majority of the battle afterall.

i HATE the black ship, i'm playing a campaign, having to fight a naval war, 1 full fleet vs like 20 something ships including the black ship, behind an island i defeat all ships except the black ship with almost no dammage to my ships, but i can't manage to even noticably damage the black ship... it's OP

Use alot of fire arrows worked for me, my fleets were sh*t compared to the black ship but I caught her travel with a small convoy so I just threw everything I had, I sunk all the other ships but took me 20 minutes to route the BS using fire arrows, I would say that it was luck but nevertheless the BS eventually become mine and I dominated the sea since

The strategy that has worked best for me is a fleet with some medi bune (for war cry) and lots of sengoku bune or samurai ships whatever. Start boarding action asap and the clue: line your ships up like you would in a drive-in, starboard And larboard! Gangbang style, both sides, everybody gets a turn, no rest for the victim! Once the first enter commando blew their load, immediately start boarding from the other side, never giving them time to fire away their guns! Also, experienced crew will deal more melee damage.

Mon Frere Gaming Channel No I was manually fighting but don't worry I got it finally. There is a glitch where you start the battle manually and then concede defeat immediately and half of your ships are dead, half battered and the black ship is at barely any health. No idea why but I took full advantage of it with my next fleet where I just boarded it with my medium bune and won. FINALLY!!!!

The design of it looks so unrealistically large. It looks like it is 6 or 7 stories tall from sea to top deck. I really doubt these ships were this large.
