The New York Titans, now Jets, were called that because founder Harry Wismer reasoned that Titans are bigger than Giants. When Tennessee took that name, Bud Adams called the Jets to ask permission to take the name, not that the Jets could object. In 2009, the 50th anniversary of the AFL, the Titans played the Jets. The Titans played in their Oilers throwbacks, while the Jets played in their Titans throwbacks.

The San Francisco 49ers got their name from the orphanage on 49th St. in San Francisco, when, upon beating a pro team they started a real football organization. Texans itself is a very recycled name. The first Dallas Texas played in 1952, then folded, the last NFL team to do so. The second Dallas Texans were the AFL team, and the third Dallas Texans team played in the Arena League in the 1990s. The first Houston Texans were in the ill-fated WFL in 1974, the second joined the NFL in 2002. And then there were the CFL USA San Antonio Texans.
