@outsiders49515 жыл бұрын
Its about quality not quantity. A lot of that training would have been useless and only impede his recovery from the beneficial part of his program. The top athletes are often at the top due to awesome genetics and would prosper no matter what coach they had and can thrive off a great variety of training programs, even the wrong training programs, Usain Bolt being the most obvious example. More training doesn't mean better performance, there's a limit to what the body can recover from, pure and simple. If you go over the threshold of what you can recover from, you're only hurting yourself. This is reality not a fucking Rocky movie where hard work/inspiration wins. Being as close to reality and what best suits your body training wise is what will garner the best results.

Im not to sure about 2015 but in 2016 Wayde was definitely not the favorite to win the 400m. He had a 47 second season opener and hadn't broken 44 seconds until that world record and ran very sparingly on the international circuit, running in Monaco, Rome, and Jamaica to name a few. If anything it was Lashawn that was favorite because of his showing over 200m of 19.74 and the fact that he was the first and only to go sub 44 with a 43.97 performance at the U.S championships. It also wasn't until some time after Wayde had admitted to a lower back injury that was causing serious issues the entire 2016 season which was the cause for lack of competing.

@Magnus_Loov2 жыл бұрын
Well in a way, he didn't have the potential to really improve his 200 m times since he got too much injured running the shorter distances. As stated in the video, it was the reason for him switching to 400 m instead of his former main event, the 200 m. Theoretic potentials by doing calculations and interpolating the "possible times" are useless if a person can't spend the time to actually train for it. Same thing with all the people claiming the Bolt would have beaten the 400 m record if "ONLY" he would have gone for it. Well that only consists of enduring the extremely mentally taxing 400 m training. Something Bolt himself said he wasn't up to. So, no, i don't think Van Niekirk would ever have gotten close to the world record for 200 m, due to having a body that easily broke down due to the specialised training for the shorter distances. Maybe that body type with slender joints and muscles was ideal for the 400 m? Staying Light and explosive (and endure lactic acid) and still not getting injured...
