I am Canadian and predicted he'd be 4th behind Knighton, Tebogo and Bednarek! My BAD here of course! I was SHOCKED when I saw that he won but as I had stated as a caveat, if the others don't run 100% for whatever reason, he could sneak in and win it! But to break clear and win by 0.19 amazed me, especially in hindsight now, knowing he ran just 10.34 in the 1st 100 meters! His legal PB is 10.62...had he ran say a "Mike Johnson" 10.12 opening 100m with the same finish...0.22 less would be 19.54...so I can see him running 19.50 in Paris! That ought to be a great race if Lyles gets to run in it!

Important question as a Canadian: Is Andre De Grasse our greatest ever track & field athlete?
@panner11
@panner11 11 ай бұрын
I think DeGrasse is the most consistent and versatile Canadian sprinter. But best ever has to be Donovan Bailey still. His double gold + WR in the 100m Olympic FInal was huge back in the day not just for Canadians. As great as DeGrasse is, he never really had the fastest man in the world moniker that Bailey had. And despite Bailey predating DeGrasse by 20 years, Bailey has the faster 100m times. For non-sprinters, Damian Warner has a case since Decathlon is such a brutal discipline. But we'll see how things turn out in Paris, since Degrasse and Warner both have a chance to add to their legacy to become the greatest ever.

Great breakdown of De Grasse's season and clutch performance in Eugene! I had written him off this season ... until he ran that 19.89 into a slight wind in Brussels the other week. But I didn't expect this Diamond League Final win so that was amazing. Surprised you didn't bring this up, but that 19.76 performance is De Grasse's 4th-best ever at the distance, all three better times done in the Olympic year of 2021, two at the Games themselves. If he is in good shape through 2024, it will be fascinating to see Mr. Clutch Performer take on Noah Lyles in the Paris Olympic final... Seeing athletes push each other into great performances is what I love about the sport!

De Grasse is finished….lol. The people who commented that in the preview video to this meet should apologize for being rude…and wrong. Reminds me of the Olympics. Very few and perhaps none of the American comments had De Grasse even getting a medal. There was no respect for De Grasse. The 200m was going to be an American sweep. Then De Grasse burned the Americans for the Olympic Gold. This race wasn’t the Olympics or the Worlds, but given the rough season De Grasse had this year, it was very impressive. I doubt there were more than a handful of American sprint fans that predicted this. I’m pretty sure Bednarek and Knighton weren’t expecting De Grasse to come motoring past them for the win. I think De Grasse had to be using his last 2 DL meets like training runs. Practice being very relaxed while running at near top speed with other runners around you. Relaxing is key to speed endurance.

“Form is temporal but class is eternal”. That’s what exactly happened here. Knighton will become a class player soon with the experience he’s getting. Tebogo would have given these gents a run for their money.

He should be running fast times like this. They pay him enough! 😂 I remember when he signed that big contract with Puma. Its good to see him healthy enough to run like this.

Injuries and covid played a big role in his decline this past year. He's getting that energy back now. He's able to put in the hard work in training. I hope he stays healthy because if he does, watch out for him in Paris.

I'm noo 200m athlete, but in the sprint world I feel like 9.42 is slow for a moving 100m start?? Thoughts?

well said as a yard I always thought he would carry on after bolt hand it over to the world but injuries plagued him just as Y Blake with the calf tear and thigh tear 3 years straight. Noah easily dominated without the 2 best mental toughness guys being injured.

Still looking up to Bolt. He went above and beyond. And everything natural, that's the best part of all.

The orange pumas are cursed and everyone is missing it. He runs like garbage with them on and then he puts back on the white Tokyo colorway and runs this. Also Marcel Jacob’s hasn’t broken 10 ever since his puma signing.

This is like when Bolt won the 100m and 200m double at the 2015 world finals(i think it was that year) after a rough season.
