How about a set of blueprints we can use to build heavy modular frames? i.e. This is a fantastic self contained factory, but what about using the blueprint designer to build a larger scale factory that fits together that we can use to build late tier items... and each could have its own design aesthetic so that the overall "factory" follows a theme. :)

I really like your style, Total. While you have the blueprint itself behind your Patreon wall, you show everyone how to build it. So you're only gating the time-saving of having instant access to it. Classy move +1

I've been told to watch the video and mispronounce your name @TotalYclipse ;) For the record, my main gripe is the lack of snapping of blueprints Power/Belt/Pipe should snap on adjacent blueprint modules. I would much rather have an entity limit than a size limit. When I saw it my first thought was that it was perfect for someone who enjoys details and aesthetic designs i.e. you
@TotalXclipse

TotalYclipse Is how I pronounce my name 😅 yep I remember the video, I think the snapping is something they're hopefully working on, but as you mentioned on the video you felt you couldn't produce x later game items within the blueprint, it made me think if it's possible to do so, and will challenge myself with it.

Gives me vibes of the city blocks philosophy for building in Factorio. Where you build large squares of the same size next to each other, tiling a large spage then you build one module in each. So one square or 'city block' is a train station, another is rails, another is input iron/output plates etc. This basically let you just look at things from an external pov, so you want to build item A and it needs B and C as input? You just look for blocks that output B and C and route them to A. This felt the same, in some way, like a black box. Where you only need to know what goes in and what comes out. Kinda similar to the black box idea in studying or programming. Great vid!

New-ish player here. I was originally having some difficulties with the idea of building vertical factories, but this is helping give me ideas for how to re-do my steel production. The goal is encased beams and motors.
@zourin8804
@zourin8804 15 күн бұрын
The key steps to building vertical is separating your logistic lines from your production buildings on different floors. the "logistic floor" opens up space, especially if you run those logistics across the ceiling just beneath the input/outputs of the assemblers/constructors right above them. Try starting with the assemblies and mark the 'up/down' points with floor connectors for the vertical belts. Things get pretty tall when you have a 'garage' floor, a logi floor, a first-stage production floor, a second logi floor, and assemblers above that. That's usually about 10 walls of verticality. and 4x as much floorspace.
@dragonmaster1500
@dragonmaster1500 15 күн бұрын
@@zourin8804 Definitely, one thing I've found that really helps is by building blueprint modules that contain space for the power cables and logistic belts. I ended being really inspired by how Kylo Builds here on KZbin uses them.

I like this compact design, but I must admit that I agree more with Nilaus here. By the time you have access to all the individual building components, you will absolutely want an iron factory that can produce more advanced stuff as part of the factory production chain, same goes for the copper, Im thinking of reinforced iron plates in particular here. And by the time you would place one down at new remote locations, you will have access to tube cannons for easy and very fast travel between starter hub and expansion, so getting products is easy. The blueprint machine would either have to be available from the start, and even then it would be of limited use, or it would have to be a LOT bigger so making actual factories in modules would be viable. I do like compact designs though, in fact Im a real sucker for them, so I enjoyed the video a lot :)
@brohvakiindova4452
@brohvakiindova4452 Жыл бұрын
That's the thing in Satisfactory the game has no "real" comfortable answers for this kind of problem. I don't want to build stuff like tube cannons and neither do I want to waste a huge amount of effort to produce building material in multiple locations. By the time you have access to useful tech, you often see yourself confronted with logistical problems that could have been avoided with said tech. That's also why just belting everything around is so popular, you don't need to redesign your factory.

I would love to see the rotor factory. I use rotors rarely enough that I just had a few machines lying around to make random items and I just changed the settings every time, then dumped the components into a nearby storage to be processed. But now that I'm scaling up beyond tier 4, I'm pretty much forced to make a dedicated factory for the things.
@Predated2
@Predated2 Жыл бұрын
I mean, rotor factories arent too difficult to set up, you slap one between a screw and rod factory and just feed it the overflow. Even if you just need rods and screws for a seperate part, you're going to be building while the screws and rods are producing more than the final part will need, hook one rotor machine between them and feed it the overflow.

Everything needs to be automated eventually. It's better to start doing it asap. If you keep manually crafting things you get to a point where you've done it too much and you get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of stuff that needs automating all at once.

I have a suggestion for improving the clarity of your build guide. It would be beneficial to include a demonstration of the process for building foundations between floors, as this step was a bit confusing for me. I followed your instructions, but unfortunately ran into issues with the blueprint designer due to hitting the height limit. As a result, I had to spend additional time troubleshooting the issue. I would appreciate it if you could consider including this information in the future, as it would greatly enhance the quality of your content and provide a better experience for your viewers.

The blueprint system would be awesome at Tier 2 though. They could make it incremental, for example, you're only allowed to build a certain part on blueprint on lower tiers, or making this blueprint editor half the size, it would help a lot. That's what I love in Factorio and Dyson Sphere, its quite fast if not immediatelly that you have Blueprints in these games, factorio takes way too long at the start, and to me, a person who needs to work, not spending my work time doing hours of factories just to feel like I didn't advance much even with 60 hours on a save. Coffee Stain should make another game mode to make things faster, allowing blueprintw and a Hover Pack that uses fuel like crazy and still only works near machines or power-poles for early tiers, a hover that can't be THAT high up either. But eh, I have the feeling that if they make the game faster at the beggining they feat people would not want to play the game anymore. At least me and my friends don't want to play the game anymore right now. xD
@Predated2
@Predated2 Жыл бұрын
They honestly place in blueprints at a nice pacing tbh. You can do pretty much everything untill then on a relatively flat plane and you probably wont even really visit other biomes, even with friends, unless you try to rush new products instead of preparing for a longer run. Making sure infrastructure is properly installed is more important than getting new resources or quick factories. Once you start needing quick factories, you would probably have a decent infrastructure to handle all those quick factories. Blueprints are there to speed up things you've already done, not things you still have to do. Also, if you want a slightly bigger challenge to do with friends because the base game is too slow. Give people a certain biome to control, or a certain resource is their monopoly. This gives reason to build factories very differently. Having to barter for the resources with your own monopoly, or having to barter for resources because its a LOT more common in their biome, or not allowing anyone to pass through their biome without payment.

I always cycle through urging to play satisfactory again after some time and then get slapped in the face on how tedious the game is for somebody not that invested in planning everything out perfectly. And holy hell yes the blueprinting is annoying because you have to redo everything you want to blueprint instead of simply copying what you already built. It's such a backwards design choice imo. And the explanation the game would be too easy is just ridiculous. By the time you unlock some QoL features you had to come up with so much stuff not using it, it's often easier to keep the "mess" you created than to redo everything.

Love this design but when I tried to duplicate it I had some issues with the spacing completely lining up correctly. One issue I had was all the smelters decided to raise themselves off the floor about 1 foot so then the splitters/mergers wouldn't line up when placed very closely. Not sure what's up with that.

I think it's because the way they do collision on the tops of things has changed since this video was made. I was having this issue and also having issues with my smelters colliding with my constructors, below. I solved the issue by simply building another 1m layer of foundation on top of that floor, clearing the previous foundation and building on top of that instead.

There is a newer component to this step that TotalXclipse did not explain. There is a part in the awesome shop that lets you do this. It is called Conveyor Lift Floor Hole. You can place those on foundations without attaching a conveyor lift or belt to them. In fact, belts cannot attach to them. As far as mechanics go, they act almost exactly like a Conveyor Pole except the are for lifts and not belts.

I cant get the smelters to work that are snapped into the splitters on the top floor. I made sure there was a conveyer connecting the two but I can't rearrange the top to get it to work proper. I don't know if its cause an update or something but everything else works fine. Please help

honestly, there should be a mk2 blueprint designer somewhere around late phase 2 that is at least 5x5 if not 6x6

How can this be a starter factory, when you need all the things you want to build in advance?

I would bet $100 there will be 10x10x10 and even larger that can be unlocked when the final game comes out

I can see a 5x5 blueprint but not sure a 10x10 blueprint would fit into the game. They wanted to keep it small to make it a puzzle system, so you can't just build a single blueprint that produces everything.

Using SF blueprints after 20k hours of Factorio feels like being handed a baby toy shovel and asked to dig a five mile trench with it. It’s what convinced me Coffee Stain actively want this to be grindy and unpleasant. I’m half convinced they made it bad on purpose so people would stop asking. I don’t often agree with Nilaus, but he’s spot on with his take on blueprints.

How do you place floors freely on walls? I can only place them on the top or bottom of the walls

@@TotalXclipse by the time you have steel, wouldn't you already 1. have a chainsaw and 2. stepped away from biofuel already? :P

@@NidasRichmount Re 1, you may have left your chainsaw at home; re 2, for a remote outpost you probably won't have access to your main grid and may want to just use biomass burners (I think it was around 3-4 to power the whole cube IIRC). Another reason for screws is you might want to hook them up to an assembler making reinforced iron plates, rotors, modular frames...

Problem is, you can't build these factories in the normal play through where items like walls and such aren't unlocked. This is good for layer in the game when they are.

I was about to comment similar because when starting out we don't have access to stairs or ramps or jet pack or hover pack so that makes the fly cheat mandatory.
