I think you missed; Automation Empire. (Even have the word: "Automation", in the name, for the game.) Then if you could drag it. ASTRONEER might be at the bottom of the list of automation games. You can automate stuff with auto arms, trains and drills, but more like factorio. You need to move your drills. But there is a maximum node amount. That maximum node amount isn't that big, in my opinion. (Might increase in the future.)

Absolutely, I've had more fun with Create Above and Beyond than any of these other ones. It also works seemlessly with any other mod. Added about 100 mods of my own to a total of over 200 mods, and it worked absolutely fantastic. Then, I forced my poor server to run it with 8 other friends, went actually amazing, with all the mods of Above And Beyond, and most mods I added being massive (Ice and Fire, Twilight Forest, AoA, Astral Sorcery, Ars Noveau, overhaul of every possible biome and dimension etc) AND running shaders on my end, the server only started being probllematic as we built out factories that would inevitably construct our spaceship. At that point we basically automated everything, we even had a mod that adds aircraft (simpleplanes) that we built a giant airport for with lifts that bring you up to a tower to launch from. We even automated chocolate cakes, a unique create recipe, so we can use them in AoA bossfights. We never got to space though. The server gave up when we started decorating our factories with carefully crafted miniatures using Chisel. RIP magic forest kingdom that turned into an industrial hellscape. You will be missed.

Mindustry is quite the interesting Tower defense factory game as it has the blueprint element. Including RTS like game modes where you fight of players rather than AI. Though it is not an eternally expanding factory that only sees it's limit in your processing power it is a fun game where you learn to set up and manage your factory for incoming enemy attacks. Like how Factorio is extremely difficult depending on it's layout if you ever try a Deathworld, to much ocean or desert nearby and you will eventually be outrun by biter evolution in comparison to your munitions production and pollution spread.

I feel like DSP doesn’t get enough love and attention. When unlocking achievements throughout the course of the game I noticed that some fairly early game achievements only 15-20% of players have unlocked? I don’t know if it’s how rough the early game can be with fuel consumption, early game red matrices, or just a learning curve, but I feel like if more people gave it an honest shot it would gain a lot more publicity like Satisfactory and Factorio. Factory Town is probably a good one to recommend to players new to factory/management games. I do feel like Timberborn should have been included as it opened to Overwhelmingly Positive Steam reviews and certainly has a unique approach. I found Junkpunk needs a lot more work on the automation front to really work as a factory game. One problem is the fact that manual crafting is pretty cheap compared to setting up any automation (in terms of both resources and space), which means you tend to set up a single machine and then manually reconfigure it to process materials you can't handcraft. Some sort of programming on both machines and splitters would allow actual automated factories. Especially at the NWR level (at the scrap level you can readily do everything with a single process line to produce ingots.

been playing factorio for around 7 years, and got satisfactory on release day, both absolutely amazing games. if i should add any game to the list, it would be autonauts, a game about programming your own bots, by showing them wha you want, but also a game with no stress, no resource limits, and cutesy artstyle, animation and theme in general. Autonauts also still gets semiregular updates with tons of new features, so really a good game for anyone to get in to the genre. while i know of most of the games you covered, i have only played satisfactory and factorio, i just feel the rest miss something, and i think it might be the insane amount of presieze control you can have in factorio, but im not 100% sure. anyway, good list, and a great to see a little bit of everything, the greats, the small, the odd ones, and so on.

If you need help to decide - in my humble opinion: Dyson Sphere Program > Satisfactory Satisfactory will waste a shitton of your time with missing features for copy/paste of complex structures [please comment if this was updated at some point since that statement would be obsolet]. You can spend hours to manually replicate and place structures you already have right next to each other. Example: building 12 smelters = ( conveyer belt + splitter + belt + smelter + belt + merger + belt ) * 12 = 84 individual placements. In DSP you would do the initial placement of a smelter with belts only 1 time and and copy it 2 times, then copy the 3 structures another 4 times = 12 + 2 + 4 = 16 placements and then you save that as a blueprint if you want to use it again in the future

A game I'd suggest that wasn't listed is Autonauts. It's a different take on the factory genre where instead of building automated machines to exploit, refine, and craft raw resources into usable materials and tools, you make programmable bots to achieve this. The programming is very simplified in the form of visual scripting, using simple code blocks that you code by making the bot see what you do and then follow the commands given. i.e. if hand empty, go to a location and pick up tool, if hand not empty, go to area and chop tree. All the scrips are also editable in case you made a mistake or need to refine bits of the code blocks as needed. It might not seem like this is a factory game but it does have the production and processing of one, with the goal of creating and expanding on a colony of folk that you're tasked with fulfilling the needs of. Autonauts also released a second spinoff game called Autonauts vs Pirates. What was originally meant to be an expansion dlc turned out to be big enough to become a second game, where you take the robot programming of the original game and add an enemy to defend against and eventually overcome. The progression is simplified in terms of production to the first game, where there's quite an extensive production progression through research, in this game it's half production and half offensive/defensive tech without making it overwhelming. Both games feel great in terms of progression, and the gameplay is quite fun. A much-recommended pair of games for any factory game enthusiast who is also interested in a bit of programming without having to learn any languages.

Dyson Sphere Program is the best factory building game for me right now. By far the most fun one in late game where you can work on building massive factories and not worry about overly complicated transportation mechanics getting in the way. Satisfactory is sadly the very opposite - there is no way of disconnecting production into blocks. Be it by belt or vehicles, the paths are predetermined. It won't be a fully developed factory game until you can put in place logic that will determine where product is needed. Simplest one being many-to-many train connection logic like in Factorio.

It's good fun but id classify it more as a survival sim than a factory game

If you liked the demo and don't already own planet crafter then I'd go ahead a buy it. Very chill game and the devs are adding new stuff every 2-3 months.

I am really looking forward to the factorio-addon and how they're going to improve an already perfect game.

Rumor has it that it's the Space mod. Apparently the Devs liked it so much they licensed it, and that's why the mod is no longer available.

@@ostlandr This best and most popular space theme mod is Space Exploration. It is still in the mod portal as of 10 seconds ago and I played it personally 2 weeks ago as it is my current save. I highly doubt the devs would take a free mod and try to sell it for $30. They would face immense backlash for that. The base game and the mods are DRM free. so they would be powerless to stop people from posting the SE mod files anyway and not buying the expansion. They wont be that stupid. They have already said the expansion will need to be something that can not currently be done through modding currently available. The expansion is not going to be a mod. It will be changes and/or additions to the core mechanics of the game. They have not released anything else on what it might be, so any rumors are just that. They managed to keep a lid on the game being ported to the switch and didnt tell anyone until it was essentially finished. Seems like they know how to keep things internal.

7:37 Because of 'Let's Game It Out' 's videos, I forgot that Hydroneer can be a factory-like game 😂.

Great list I ve played 4 out of 10 Factorio still the best Satisfactory great The rest mostly between average and good Gonna be selfish and recommand one of my favorite, not really a factorio style but not too far. It s oneof my 2 best games this year with Satisfactory. And that s "planet crafters". Lack a bit of depth compared to the others but not any less fun to play. I really recommend to test this one out 😁. Have fun

Each truly has their pros and cons. I love the way factories look in Satisfactory, but the world is highly finite and building isn't as convenient as other games. Dyson Sphere Program looks nice, and has a very satisfying end game, but it's slow starting and I honestly hate the mech itself needing to be powered and upgraded, hurting the early game (imo). Then Factorio os all around outstanding, but it's purely 2 dimensional. Things start getting cookie cutter, and launching the rocket and looking at numbers just isn't as satisfying as walking through a giant 3D factory or seeing the space structures you've made.

I'd recommend Rise of Industry and modded Minecraft. With the right mods, Minecraft can be turned into a factory game.

X4 foundations, released by Egosoft, can also count as a factory builder since you fly spaceships to trade goods between factories and you can build your own spacestations that produce everything the universe needs. And those needs are huge since every destroyed ship (due to wars between factions or pirates) needs to be rebuilt with the products created at every factory in the universe. You also forgot about Automation empire. Nice little game but development seems to have stopped.

Another game with the factory and automation is outerverse. It has bosses, multiple planets, lots of resources, and lets you turn gravity off or on.
