Touch&Go Landing of an electric Glider at an International Airport!

There has been already a long time an idea on my mind: what about doing a Touch and Go Landing with the Silent 2 Electro on an International Airport?
Normally glider pilots try to stay away from controlled airspace. Furthermore there is only a single final landing. But with the quick-reacting FES motor of electro-powered gliders there are more possibilities. And this is what i wanted to show you with this video :-)

Hello Rudi from a fellow Electro owner here in Texas. I have had mine for three soaring seasons. I always take off unassisted on grass and have never been towed. 230hrs of trouble free soaring in the best self launcher in the world. Great Video, maybe I should go do a touch and go at DFW airport!

Yes you are right! A complete new challenge, to bring the gliding characteristics together with the procedures on an international airport. For example, as i am flying without headsets and the engine is not that quiet inside the cockpit, it needed some skills, to reduce the power or switch off the engine for receiving a radio call. Then quick answering, then switch on the engine again to be able to continue with the flight. Thanks to FES, this is not a problem. But was a great experience!

Nice! I think I've seen a video of an ASH25Mi at your airport, right? How do you like the Silent Electro? Can I self launch off grass ok? Seems close proximity to the ground.

Hi, thank you for your comment! Yes right, we are 3 clubs on our airfield, and one of the others have an ASH25Mi. I like the Silent very much, its the right plane especially when you want to get airborne easily and independent. Taking off from grass without helper is no problem. More videos are coming up where you can see that. I just accept a helping hand of a club collegue proudly. Thats why you might also see sometimes also wingrunners 😀

@@RudisGlidingAdventures that's awesome man. I am closing on a DG505MB hopefully this year or early next year. Heavy bird in comparison. You wouldn't happen to have any experience with 500/505 would you?

@ Sailing the Sky no unfortunatly i don't know the 500 or 505. For sure a lot heavier, probably you would see the most difference when you rig those two gliders. The wing weight of the Silent is only 37kg. That makes friends on the airfield again :-D
