If you put a piece of paper on the globe, then hold a paperclip above the paper, it will create a spark that lets you burn lines into the paper. But be careful because you can feel the electricity. Nothing major but its a small pinching feeling.

Florescent bulbs will light up without even touching the plasma ball (though it may require a larger model than shown here). You can hold the bulb in one hand and touch the plasma ball with your other hand for proper light saber fun.

When I had a plasma ball, I would put a coin on top and hold a paper and foil gum wrapper above the coin. The electricity would jump from the coin to the gum wrapper and set it on fire.
