I went bluegill fishing yesterday at Lake Lasalle & let me tell you the F100 float with the BG1 was the ticket. Found a few beds & caught my limit of 25 in about 2 hours. Tried the 2lb SOS Mono for the first time this 2lb SOS line is amazing I was catching Catfish with this 2lb line with no problem my new go to 2lb fishing line for sure.
@chipseiler1766
@chipseiler1766 Ай бұрын
The SOS 2 lb. line is .16 mm - a little larger than a "normal" 3 lb. diameter, and SOS 4 lb. is .2 mm, about a "normal" 5 lb. diameter. I still like this line also, but I only use it as a leader because it's a bit to large in diameter for me as a main line. (Casting distance is reduced)
@ifishcatfish
@ifishcatfish Ай бұрын
for float fishing 0.16 mm is absolutely perfect. If you use braid or very thin main line your life will be miserable because it will wrap around the tip non stop.. You want some stiffness from the 0.16 mm. If you are casting the jigs without float, then - yes - 0.16 too thick for that

@@team3d180 It kind of depends. I'd say I'm in transition after watching this channel! I currently use braid for castability and sensitivity. (daiwa J-Braid x8 in either 6 lb / .06mm or 8 lb / .13mm as a main line on top of a mono backing, and then I use Spider wire mono, SOS, Berkley Vanish or Trilene Sensation as a 1 to 2 foot leader. Those I have in 2 - 10 lb. test. I use 6 - 10 lb. test if I'm targeting small bass. I fish in a pond from the bank and there's a lot of tree limbs, branches and even rocks that some kids keep removing from erosion prevention areas and throwing into the water) I just spooled up a whole reel with some 4 lb. P- Line to try it out. It's a bit too thick by i fish standards, .18 mm, but I wanted to try out a new reel, the i_fish recommended fish with mono thing, I liked the color, and it was relatively inexpensive. I was also keeping in mind the hazards in the pond I fish and the box says "x-tra strong", so I gave it a try out. Too early to have an opinion on that one. I'm definitely going to try a couple of reels with Verivas lines. I know they're expensive, but you can get it on Amazon and if it's the line that Victor likes, I really want to try it and see how it works for me. I trust his opinion. One with .16 mm for float fishing and figure out the smaller diameter twitch rod line after watching a few more videos of Victors. I'm just a bit nervous about going to 2 lb. in the pond I fish because I have done the 2lb. Trilene Sensation at .15 mm and the fish were breaking me off on things under water too easily. If I had more open water with no debris the lighter line would work better. All of my fishing reel's drags work just fine. That's why I went to the braid and the 4 lb + leaders. The J-Braid gives me the castability because it's low in diameter and sensitivity because it's braid. I just really rely on my drag to help me not rip the hooks out of the crappie and bluegill mouths. After using and preaching the benefits of fishing ultra lite for over 40 years, I'm now learning so much that I didn't know by watching this channel! This probably wasn't much help. My situation as a pond fisherman, from the bank, makes "ideal" line diameter for me maybe a tad different than if I was fishing from a boat in a larger lake as Victor does. Also, because I don't have really expensive parabolic action type rods, the braid works well for my situation because of both it's strength and sensitivity. It gives me a kick to feel the brim (and even the Crappie now and then) just smash the lure. It's also nice to be able to detect some of the softer strikes. Wow. This is really long. Blessings!

I DID THIS TONIGHT Victor, I WENT TO OUR SOCCER FIELD. I TIED LINE TO FENCE, and WALK 150 YARDS and I PULLED LINE VERY TIGHT. Then I LEFT ROD ON GROUND , then I WENT BACK TO FENCE and CUT LINE. THEN I WENT BACK TO MY ROD ON GROUND and STARTED REELING IN LINE WHILE PINCHING the LINE. NO MORE MEMORY or TANGLED LINE. I DON'T KNOW HOW LONG THIS WILL LAST.
@ifishcatfish
@ifishcatfish Ай бұрын
not very long... No need for 150 yards though. Now that your line is straight, you will be casting no more than 30-40 yards. All u have to do is once in a while do this with your top 40 yards or so. If you want to take this to the next level, get a paper towel and spray some water based silicone cleaner on it. Then when u do this hold the line with the wet paper towel. It cleans the line and makes is shiny and smooth. The first few casts after that will be amazing.

First beds of the season here in North Eastern Central NC (near Raleigh). The fish were coming and going I believe because of the weather. They are on beds pretty much now. (May 3rd - 5th and going forward). I can't get them to hit anything! Only catching the ones that are off the beds a little further out. (our beds start 1 foot from the shore and go out from there. Actually have some exposed beds where the water has gone down) This is in a pond, not a lake. Also, one of the two main easy to find bedding areas, has NO beds! (this pond has 3 MAIN bedding areas that are fishable from the shore, and one of those is really tough, and you have to know the secret location!) I can only catch them early morning or late at night with a weightless, slow sinking "insect" bait that I made myself. They won't hit a jig! I have caught a few that seem to NOT be bedding as they are roaming about the pond. Typically smaller and on a 1 G, BG-1 with a LarvaZ. One good thing though. Last summer we had a massive fish kill in this pond. Hundreds of bluegill, Crappie, and bass, including a bass that was about 5 pounds were floating belly up one day. I used to catch a few Shell Crackers here and there, every once in a while, and NEVER have seen them on beds! This year, I have found that two of the areas have a lot of Shell Crackers on them! Good for me! Those dudes pull like crazy, and the second bedding area is the one that nobody fishes or really knows about! Again.. still only catching numbers together at night. 7 pm - 8:15 pm. I include all this info because I find this very interesting. Initially (last week of April), I found the beds as you did in the lake on this video, but no fish were on them.

One of my favorite rigs is a tiny popper with the hooks removed and a small tag of line on the back hook eye with a small jig or fly. They come for the pooper, and grab the jig/fly.

@@ifishcatfish well, it's on the border with UL vs L. but if I remember correctly, you don't like the solid type. this one has tubular, they have similar characteristics (casting weight, duty, weight of the rod itself).. and costs less than 150 euros. it has great performance, sensitivity, and everything else. so I just said to take a look if you are interested as something you haven't tried, looked at... I originally purchased the 22 Sahara 2000 before I took your advice on purchasing the 23 Legalis 2000SP, and I ran into the same problem with weight. I loved the quality of the reel, but it didn't feel right on any of my rods. I tend to like shorter 5'6 to 6'6 inch rods so I was thinking about exchanging it for the Sahara 500 because it's only 170 grams. I have a feeling that might work better. The Legalis will be here soon, and I also purchased a 23 2500 Exceller (I picked it up for $60 after discount) for heavier lures when I go bass fishing. I think the Sahara 500 might fit a nice niche in my collection. That's one beautiful lake! It reminds me of all the inland lakes we have up here in Michigan. On a side note, are the BJ-1 jigs coming back in anytime soon? If so, I'll hold off on placing my order until then.

I never recommend rods for reels.. There are a lot of factors to consider, but reel isn't one of them. Every year i publish a Ultralight Rod Buying Guide (2024). There you can find my recommendations for each technique and in every price segment. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6fPZ5Wvop57opI

What i can recommend though is try any of my Size 10 hook BG1 jigs for that purpose. The hook wire is twice thinner, the hooks are much sharper, and the head design is much more aerodynamic and casts much farther. ifishtackle.com/

Easy conversion on the internet. If people want to be serious about ultra lite, maybe they should at least give grams a try. 1 gram = 7/200 oz. Just a little more than 1/32 oz. All three jigs, 1 g, 1.25 g, and 1.5 g, are between 1/32 and 1/16 oz.

Bobby, my jigs weigh 1 gram, or 0.035274 oz. I know traditions are hard to break, but just look at these numbers - what is a better unit - 1.0 gram, or 0.035274 oz?
