Stopped him!?! Shaq averaged 28pts, 12.5rebs, 6ast, and 2.5blocks for the series while shooting 59.5% from the field. Nobody stopped him. Did Olajuwon make it tougher for Shaq by consistently making him catch further out from the block than the rest of that playoff run? Yes. Did he defend well? Yes. But in no way was Shaq stopped

Bron was always credited for his defense in his prime and being able to guard multiple positions. He has 5 first teams for a reason. Players don't have to mentioned him, he's already stamped. Players don't talk about who locked them up in general. Kawhi's name would be mentioned a lot more

Why Olajuwon is the GOAT defender : 1. He was the only player ever got in top 10 in both steals and blocks, and he was in top 10 rebounds at the time he retired. 2. He was one of only three players ever who was able to defend Shaq(Olajuwon, Rodman, Wallace) 3. He was the only center ever who could ACTUALLY DEFEND perimeter player when switched in pick and roll. I respect all GP, Scottie, Russell, MJ, Mutombo, however, no one even come close.

Best defensive player of all time is Bill Russell, period. Facts are clear.. Boston wasn’t winning championships before he got there, and they didn’t win for like 4 seasons immediately after he retired.. while they won ELEVEN with him. That alone should tell you A WHOLE LOT. They even won with him as a player-coach. Celtics were the #1 defense in the league for 10 out of those 11 championships, and #2 for 1.. and guess who was far and away their best, most impactful defensive player, even the best defensive player in the league? Mr Russell ofc! Meanwhile they were NEVER a top3 offense for any of those titles, and only top5 for like 3! They were winning VASTLY due to defense and Bill was their defensive anchor, to say the least! He’s the GOAT defensive player. He could do EVERYTHING on that end, and is the most impactful ever seen on defense! Boston had the #3 best ranked offense, and the 6th best defense (out of 8).. before Russell got there. They didn’t win it all, ofc. Then with Bill, first year.. they’re the #1 defense while the #5 offense… and win it all! He was his team’s best player for the majority of ELEVEN rings! Their leader. That’s why he was the one winning MVP’s; he has 5 of them! And would’ve gotten at least 6 FMVP’s if the award was given out back then! Plus, he would’ve had the most DPOY’s ever if also that award existed… People love to talk about competition and number of teams or whatever BS narrative.. he dominated his competition to the maximum! Nothing more he could do. He couldn’t change stuff, just play with the cards he was dealt, let’s say. And the fact is that he won 11 rings in 13 seasons (as their leader and best player, for the most part)! He had some great competition too, and with less teams, he had to face the best more often than not. Bill was also a champion and top tier player in college!! And lead the USA to an Olympic gold medal (while being the leader in points)! Plus, nowadays he would’ve had access to modern training, modern medicine, modern equipment, modern shoes, all the luxuries and money, not dealing with tremendous injustices (his own house was broken into!), so on and so forth…….

@@vbrown9905 2 things…one you just listed a 5yr stretch where most superstars don’t even for that long. Kobe, MJ, both of their defense efforts fell off past their 10th seasons, but you’ll never know unless you watched because there were no narratives written about that. Second Lebron could still lock up well passed the 2014 season, he did however pick his spots in game situations as well as in the playoffs in general.
