The crucial point of difference here is that I argue that hydrostatic equilibrium is not accurate outside the chimney, because air clearly needs to have speed to enter the furnace and overcome gravity to reach the top of the furnace, in the absence of any pressure gradient as given in the question. Hence we can assume that the decrease in KE corresponding to the flow speed gets converted to PE as the air reaches the top of the furnace and that leaves us with Q = nCp*deltaT. I have explained it physically in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIGynWt_iLiFmLM Moral of the story: Everyone loves drama but the lesson to be learnt for future serious students is that this is a question to be left in the exam!! We still don't know what JEE will give as the final answer! So just leave it and move on!

we are using Bernoulli from the point that air enters the chimney right? Not from the point where it is just about to exit the furnace

I got the same ans, but other people are confusing it with the olympiad 2010 problem, there the cases were different 1. It was clearly stated atm pressure changes with hydrostatic law 2.Also there was no air entering theough the lower side, gases were produced in the furnace In this question, I think velocity will indeed be 6

Absolutely correct, I agree, there hydrostatic equilibrium was asked to be assumed in the IPHO question.

Also sir my logic at 14:21 regarding the terms of temperature cancelling was that, since heating is at constant pressure, and energy per unit mass contains Cp term, the change in kinetic energy is equal to the change in potential energy for the gases in the furnace from bottom to top, this helped me to solve it faster
