Great rigs. I wanted to bob the bed on the last one I had but got offered a nice Tacoma for it so ended up getting rid of it. I plan on finding a nice one one of these days and swapping in a 5.3 Chevy motor. The 3.4s are great freakin motors but a 100 more hp and better fuel mileage sounds pretty sweet. Probably won’t ever get rid of old Penelope but she’s too beat up to do a bunch of work to. I’m considering throwing a d44 under her and a 4.7 case and just making her into a crawler.

I have to disagree. I have a 2000 Mazda B3000 aka Ford Ranger, and this thing is a BEAST! I have pulled 16' landscape trailers full of equipment and debris, towed and F350 4 door diesel, pulled out 2 Chevy 1500 stuck at the beach and so much more. It now has 305,4++ miles and still runs like a champ. No ticks, no knocks, no misses, all on original motor. Only routine maintenance performed on this bad boy. If I could upload pics and videos I certainly would. However, I might just do that on my channel. My Mazda is 100% FORDified.

Yes. Only parts that have been changed since 1995 are alternator twice, starter twice, harmonic balancer (only real failure), 2 radiators, 3 clutches (5-speed standard), spark plugs, wires, rotors and distributor caps and the valve cover gasket. Finally changed the distributor o-ring a few months back. I have the 2.7 liter four and never thought I needed anything more than that.

Rust is the only weak spot on this legendary vehicle. But if you seasonally spray down the under body with some sort of moisture repellent and do oil/filter/water pump at appropriate intervals, this truck will give you 500k+ miles. Toyota peaked with this truck.
