There is absolutely no challenge to this stage. Par for the course for a final stage I know but this is bad. Have you figured out how to stream bullets? Yes? Then you've beaten this stage.
Rin similarly doesn't put up much of a fight as a mid-boss. Honestly the distracting flashiness of her spell was more dangerous than the attack itself. Which honestly isn't saying much.
Now Utsuho herself on the other hand is where the difficulty lies. As you might expect from our resident nuke chick her attacks are all incredibly overwhelming. However the most deadly part of her attacks isn't the large shots so much as the smaller ones they hide. Pay close attention to the attacks and watch out for what you truly need to avoid in this battle.

For some reason, she always used to be the hardest final boss for me. I'm not good with giant bullets at all, and her final spellcard was the one I despised going against the most. Getting cocky with my resources on stage 5 (a pretty normal thing for me regardless of game difficulty) didn't help at all.

For some reason? No I think the reasoning is kinda obvious. It’s far more difficult than others. This entire game feels like a massive middle finger to anyone who felt the difficulty of the series on normal was just right. Normal from SA onwards except for Ten Desires is no longer a difficulty fit for normal people, and it makes me struggle to really find a way to love the series.

UFO's one of the games I played in the past that lost annotations, so yes, in a few days I'll start reuploading my UFO videos with visible commentary. At the end of every fangame I play I put a poll at the end asking people what they want me to play. Both Azure Reflections and FDF2 are and were on said poll. The former you'll see after it wins, the later down the line.

Okuu has easy nonspells because she's actually not that smart. She's powerful as all hell (literally), but she only received it a little while ago. Also, I can't believe you didn't say anything about her spellcard declarations. Out of all the cast, she's the only one who doesn't use the normal noise; she's got a klaxon and a "Caution" banner, and that's pretty badass.

Utsuho's fight is weird. Half of her spells and nonspells are pathetically easy, while the other half are actually pretty tricky. She's not my favorite final boss, but she's super unique and has a really cool design and theme! Especially that last card; super neat way of fucking with your movement. Kanako just has to be even more of a badass by causing TWO incidents, one from her own game and one from this one!

To be fair, MoF wasn't an incident at all. It was just a freshly-arrived Sanae going "hand over your shrine" to Reimu. Likewise, she didn't plan Utsuho to go berserk with power, she was just planning her to be a living nuclear power plant.

So Okuu's invasion is actually doomed from the start. The hydrogen she uses for her nuclear fusion is given to her by Kanako, so if she tried to use it to take over the world it would just stop working.

i thought she uses evil spirits to power up the nuclear fusion (i.e. using them as a fuel source)

Actually Kanako isn't the direct source of her power. What happened was Kanako turned Utsuho into a walking shrine for Yatagarasu, in the process granting Utsuho Yatagarasu's solar powers. Originally it was Kanako giving Yata's corpse, but was retconned later in Symposium of Post-Mysticism.

Zun really did crank up the difficulty level for Touhou 11... Utsuho feels like a boss from an extra stage. Congrats on beating the game, even beating it in normal difficulty without continuing is a pretty impressive feat. Now I'll have to tryhard as much as I can to do the same !

I don’t know if I should feel relieved or angry with ZUN knowing that someone who is actually good at these games struggles on this boss on normal. SA and UFO have such atrocious design choices. I had Touhou on this huge pedestal, but I guess it turns out ZUN is the same as any solo dev project, woefully lacking in playtesters to tell him he’s doing too much.
