Sumireko’s a great character, but a little tricky to play as at first. Her movement and attacks are slow plus her attacks don’t pack that strong a punch behind them but they have insane distance compared to any other character seemingly having an answer for everything.

Sumireko didn't realize exactly how bad she screwed with Gensokyou. Getting possessed by something like the spirit of an urban legend might seem a little terrifying if you're a normal person, but when you are yourself the spiritual embodiment of some ancient concept? by comparison that's inconvenience vs life threatening. It's stated in one of the books, (yes, there are books based on this world) that possession is practically death to a youkai as their bodies are mostly the same as their spirit unlike with a human, so when their body gets possessed and their personality overwritten, its' almost perminent depending on what kind of youkai it is. This is why Kokoro and Ichirin, both normally somewhat restrained or at least single purposed in their violence, are suddenly out for blood. And both of these are somewhat lucky, as Kokoro has her masks to act as a body and Ichirin is a trancendent who threw away her humanity to become a youkai, still possessing some vestige of a body herself, although she's attached to Unzan As for attacking Sumireko in specific, well...Apparently there's a rule that youkai aren't allowed to actually kill/eat the people from the village. Youkai survive based on people believing in them and the natives fuel that somewhat perpetually. Eat all the people, suddenly no one is around who remembers what you are to believe in you. So the rule is, eat anyone who get spirited away to scare the crap out of the people in the village so they still remember that you do that sort of thing. And this goes back to why Ichirin gets excited over seeing someone she doesn't recognize. She has a somewhat normal body but it's holding essentially 3 youkai at the moment. And that isn't really sustainable, so she needs to offload something somewhere, either by getting another body for one of them, or, like Nitori did with Nessie, generating enough belief in it that it becomes it's own, separate entity... On that note, I'll leave the rest of you to make the jokes about what those balls are doing to those youkai.

Sumireko is only the final boss of the game for like a bit over half of the scenarios... And the remaining half is mainly composed of Miko. They really needed to give her a better final card if they were going to make her take the role of final boss half as often as Sumireko did lol

Full Moon for what is worth, if you do get hit by Miko’s final spellcard, it can stunlock your for ridiculous damage. It’s just.... very easy to avoid.

Sumireko's Occult attack's actually a fair bit more than just that. In Story mode it's only those projectiles, but when in Versus mode, the attack changes if there is a Mystery Spot (the chance for one player to get an occult ball), and is unique for each Mystery Spot.

I'm not sure if it's mentioned in the vid, but Sumireko's ubran legend is actually different depending if there's an ball floating around. I've only gotten to try it out on non-story mode stuff so I'm not sure if it still applies here.

It only works in VS mode and is actually more effective there. I didn't mention it cause yeah, you wouldn't see it here. But when the totally-no-a-smash-ball shows up in VS mode you can use Sumireko's occult attack to have the ball itself attack your opponent as well.

I think so, but that really doesn't apply to story mode since you get a set number of occult balls throughout the game. But yeah, I believe in VS mode the more occult balls you collect the more damage your last work will deal.

34:15 really appreciate the restrain on spoilers :) but how is this an urban legend? Also shouldn't there be 7? Also disappointing big mama is even worse on Easy where the 2 circles overlap and by staying on the middle you don't need to dodge anything. #final boss material

There are seven, but I can't really say what that seventh one is without spoiling it for people. Though for what its worth it _was_ mentioned in an earlier characters ending, so some people might be able to figure it out regardless. Though I did wonder how many people would realize I only listed off six of the wonders there. And no... I really have no understanding about how this works as an urban legend. If anything I think it's less of an urban legend like the others and more _literally_ manipulating the occult what with her mastery of the balls

The problem is... how Sumireko viewed her legend? Because she shouldn't know about the special capabilities of the last ball, so what goes in that spot? Or did she also miscount to 7?

I think that last ball is the very special one that she was regarding her her ending, thinking that using it alongside the others would allow her free access to and from Gensokyo. Keep in mind she didn't tap into it until her final attack in the final stage. Also should be noted that unlike the rest of the other six that were activated over and over again, this one ball was only used once and it made the other six stronger.

"How is it an Urban Legend?" It isn't her urban legend, actually, but that's revealed mostly in Reimu's ending and in some of her PvP Dialogue. ...And the AoCF trailer, for what it's worth. Though her real one is also... dubious in being a legend.

Seven Wonders of the World was her urban legend in ULiL, but it's been hinted at/revealed in WaHH that it's changed to something else now that she enters Gensokyo in her dreams. Judging by the trailer for AoCF we'll get to see some more insight into that development.
