Touhou 14: Double Dealing Character - Lunatic SakuyaB No Deaths No Bombs

Good Game
This is by far the hardest Touhou category I've ever succeeded in.
Touhou 14 might not be very well-known as a super difficult game, but it gets ridiculous on lunatic mode.
Every boss is stuffed full with chaotic patterns, which tend to pile up on themselves if they take longer. Most shots have good speedkills which avoid this issue a bit... except ReimuB and SakuyaB.
In a game where LNN survival strategies rely on speedkills that avoid the worst RNG, SakuyaB has to face the worst version of every stage and boss (minus Benben of course). I even time stage 3 midboss card out, because killing it is more dangerous and doesn't pay off well as SakuyaB.
I think this LNN category might bring out the most dodging skill out of all of Touhou categories currently in existence. Using a shot this finnicky and weak, combined with possibly the most chaotic touhou game out there, makes for the ultimate Touhou Dodging challenge.
Quick summary (will probably elaborate more in a separate video or in captions later):
Stages aren't too bad even as the weaker shots, but your routing does need to be on point for the lategame, and stage 5 is full of fun surprises.
S1&S2 are overall simple, but Cirno's a meanie sometimes.
The stage 3 boss is around the difficulty of an average Windows Mainline Touhou Final boss, especially with a shot like SakuyaB where the patterns take twice as long as with the good shots.
Stage 4 boss has an incredibly unpredictable card that I had to invest thousands of attempts in to even develop a somewhat effective route for.
Stage 5 has really strange sections with a lot of RNG clutter, it's generally not gonna kill you but it requires a lot of focus regardless.
Stage 5 boss is the pinnacle of DDC shenanigans, Seija LOVES piling up bullets for weaker shots and it makes her fight really difficult and random.
Stage 6 is relatively normal, but Shinmyoumaru has plenty tricks up her sleeve to kill your runs (iirc I had a run before that was NN to stage 6 but ended up 4-miss thanks to her).
I feel the game was quite nice to me on this attempt, the only pattern that was exceptionally bad (though not very surprising) was the stage 6 boss opener. Luckily, the following pattern proceeded to be very nice.
I'll be playing this game a bit more still, as I will do it on the Touhou World Cup and I need to keep the game warm. :3
That being said, this might just be the best Touhou run I'll ever do, at least when it comes to the achievement itself.

Congrats for making the thing with Sakuya B, that was truly a fantastic run. Btw, according to the ISCORE calculator, I found that LNNN with Marisa A would give player a lot of points than Sakuya B. Does that make beating this game with Marisa A much more harder than with Sakuya B?

I'm not completely sure myself, but they're both very difficult runs. MarisaA is generally a better shot than SakuyaB, but her performance against Benben (stage 4) is really bad. Benben as a whole is a really messy boss, but the other A shots have broken DPS so they can speedkill most of her patterns before they become a problem. MarisaA doesn't have that privilege, and this makes the whole fight really stupid. Yatsuhashi takes a lot of practice to get somewhat consistent on (mainly because of Requiem), but for Benben's 3rd non it's still up to debate if some consistency is even possible in the first place 😶. That being said, I remember when people thought the same of Requiem, so maybe someone will develop Benben more in the future and get really good at her. If we're just talking about beating the game, rather than LNN, SakuyaB is certainly the worst shot because at least MarisaA's bomb is powerful.

Yeah, Marisa A in this game definitely was given one of the worst shot types ever and honestly, I always feel inconvenient when using her in this game. Short-range attack, which means that you have to go up high on the screen to force a strong damage against the boss, leading to the risk of getting hit by those bullets flying around. Could I ask for some of your thoughts about reading/routing Requiem? (Don’t know if this is a good place to inquire, but I watched your recent video, in which you mentioned that you have a bunch of strats floating around that you like to share, so I thought I might as well ask!) I’m starting to think I might want to make DDC (with MariB) my next LNN project, but this spell is definitely a major red flag! Anyway, it was awesome to watch this vid when it came out, and it’s a lot of fun to rewatch it now!

With MarisaB, you can do Requiem in 2½ waves, right before you need to pass the big geyser a 3rd time. With SakuyaB this becomes 3½. Getting a feeling for this speedkill is the most important. As for reading the bullets, what worked best for me is to keep a large "omnidirectional" reading window on my sprite, but peeking at the bottom of the big geyser right after it starts moving again, to identify a sweetspot for the scary dodge in the middle. On the sides, if you stay at about middle height, you usually get a breather in terms of bullet density, so use that to deal good damage to Yatsuhashi and fix your reading window if you need to.

congrats that you did it Question, I start playing on Lunatic and I have only beat touhou 7 on Lunatic. What other game should I go for? edit: I have beat touhou 14 and 8 , thanks for your suggestion :) . in general, touhou 14 is the hardest game I have beat on Lunatic, it is a RNG nightmare, you must finish the spell very Quickly otherwise you have to bomb or die though it is still fun. Now, I can really appreciate this run :)
