A duet for the nameless but fascinating girls from Dolls in Pseudo Paradise. ...ZUN's first music CD, an obscure gem, is the only one whose story does NOT follow the adventures of the Secret Sealing Club or any other known character. Instead, it's a dark murder mystery -- with no explicit answer -- about a group of eight "honest ones" who stumble into Gensokyo and then start getting killed off, one by one. Could the culprit be among them? Could it be "the most beautiful" honest one, who you'd least expect? Meanwhile, there's a morally neutral shrine maiden casually dancing in the mist and keeping track of the body count.
This duet features myself as the shrine maiden, while my partner Lori ( / lori-hime ) is the most beautiful one... of course. I'm blown away more than ever by the dramatic power of her voice here. Should I be worried that such a scary character comes so naturally to her? In any case, please appreciate it. She's amazing.
In case you haven't, you should read the original story and see what kinds of interpretations you can come up with: kafkafuura.wordpress.com/2010... I don't enjoy looking at Gensokyo in a very violent light, but this CD does offer awesome themes of ambiguity and duality of identity that I always love. For example, I interpret that the beautiful murderer gives up her humanity to embrace the nature of a youkai. It also offers my favorite version of this Dichromatic song, otherwise associated with Reimu or with Seihou, but I'll always associate it most with these girls.

DiPP always left me and my friends wondering how many times Reimu and her ancestors have been out on patrol only to come across the horror show of what this story portrayed. How many times has a situation like this been recorded? Where a group of humans falls into Gensokyo and is torn apart from the inside out by one of their own, who found themselves utterly changed... and LOVED IT.

despite whatever fan games, fan manga and fan fictions try to tell you, no one in Gensokyo give a F--k about human outsiders. The only reason Gensokyo Youkai don't attack human village is because they are allowed to prey on human who got "spirited away" into Gensokyo

Kanako probably wouldn't mind some new followers who have knowledge of modern tech. And I imagine the Human Village itself doesn't turn down the fresh genetic contribution an outsider can provide.

I think it was really ZUN testing the limits of how far he wanted to go with the series' new direction. He went back later and chose a more nuanced approach to introduce the disturbing elements of the lore, but it's definitely a period piece.

As disturbing as the included story is, I do enjoy Dolls in Pseudo Paradise. Because it was released only shortly after ZUN made the switch to Windows many of the tracks are remixes of PC-98 Touhou music (although they're just the midi versions from the old website). I've never played Seihou, but this song really does fit Reimu. Despite that you decided to base the lyrics off DiPP's story. Nice.

I haven't uploaded it because it is set to another talented fan's (GORGEOUS) remix, rather than to the original track -- and it also only covers half of the lyrics that I wrote for the full song. I've always intended to go back and record a full version to the original track... but, when I've tried, it doesn't turn out as good as that partial one... ^^; It's still on my list of things to do; I'm sorry for taking forever!

It was absolutely wonderful and great. There was a huge amount of reference to the story and what happened, and i love this story a lot, so i appreciated this immensely. I was only a bit sad there was no agatha christie references, but doesn't matter, they were in flandre's song😂. My only nitpick is that i actually prefer the "ancients" version of this song, but oh well😂. Speaking of theories, I like making theories and such about this story, and i am 95% confident that the "not youkia nor human" in the alternate story is actually VIVIT, which is pretty obvious seeing reimu's different thoughts toward the beautiful one. I will found a wonderful agatha-christie-level analysis of the story, and damn if it was interesting. I'll probably use it in my theory/analysis of the story i'll soon write

Thank you so much, and greetings back to you.~ Unfortunately, the characters have no official names. Fans tend to refer to them as Labelko (the shrine maiden) and Jacketko (the beautiful murderer), deriving from the fact that their pictures appeared respectively on the label/jacket of the Dolls in Pseudo Paradise CD. Those names feel rather cold and impersonal though -- like, it takes you out of the immersion of the narrative -- and I'm sad they don't have better names. But that's what you can use if you wanted to talk about them! Always good for more people to start talking about them, building awareness and appreciation.
