Stade Toulousain is really one of the best team in the world (if no the best) but their dominance isn't only at senior level, this year they also won the French U22 Espoir Championship (as they do last year) and they are the favorite in tomorrow's final for the French U18 Championship Worth noting that Paul Costes has won in 2023 the Espoir Championship (under Toulouse colors) and weeks later the U20 World Championship and this year he won the Champions Cup and the French Top 14, he certainly is a player to watch in the future

Not only are Toulouse unquestionably the best club side in the world right now - there’s a decent case that they’d be genuinely competitive with the top four national teams if they were ever to play. Certainly if Toulouse were to play France (and we had a machine to duplicate Dupont and co - a terrifying thought), I think I’d bet on Toulouse - their non-French players are just total class too, and add so much.

Toulouse are hands down the best team to watch play. Their attack is so mellifluous, it just cascades down the field, constantly offloading and finding space. Lovely to watch.

Yes. For me it’s the best looking trophy on the planet. It represents an old Gaul shield. The Rugby French Federation has to repare it each year as the winner team ruins it each year celebrating its victory

The Brennus Shield has no root on Gaul's military chief Brennus name. It was created in the late 19e century by Charles Brennus, a french artist, co-founder of FFR. The nickname of the Brennus Shield is ''Le Bout de Bois" (The Piece of Wood) and, tbh, as a Toulousain, even if win Champion's Cup is really great for sure, it doesn't have the same taste than win Le Bout de Bois. It's an iconic trophy

Talk about a one sided rout. Plus I think we’ve run out of superlatives to describe just how brilliant Antoine Dupont is. What a season he’s had, and it’s not over yet, who would bet against him leading France to the Olympic gold medal?

I really hope France manages to pinch gold at their home Olympics. With all the plaudits that rightfully come Dupont’s way, he still manages to stay so humble. You can see how awkward he feels when he got man of the match yesterday, he wanted to get back to their team huddle but still gives the presenter and interviewer the time of day and shares the credit around and self-deprecatingly acknowledges his mistakes. He deserves every accolade he gets.

Now that is what you call a quick upload Mark. Does time run slower in the Southern hemisphere? I've been a fan of Toulouse ever since I've started liking rugby, but geez, Bordeaux surely didn't deserve such a beatdown, they were good all season long. I was expecting Toulouse to win, rather comfortably, but not that. The sadness on Lucu's face was quite heartbreaking.

Haha thankfully a normal French evening kickoff time means 7am for me here in NZ - perfect timing! But yeah I felt for Lucu and the other Bordeaux boys. Reminded me of the Super Rugby final - where a good team just didn't play that well in the final - and they came up against a team in red hot form - but this was even more extreme

Dupont just continues to be inhuman, he will likely go down as the pinnacle of scrum halfs. Great performance from Toulouse, running that final try in over 100m was just genuinely hob smacking the audacity and brilliance of it.

I really feel it is their “ruthlessness” that shows how much rugby is a sport of respect. They didn’t hold back but didn’t brag either. They were committed and serious.

If it was Earth vs The Martians I think I would just get Stade Toulousain to play for us. Jack Willis has become an absolute machine since moving to France. UBB have been brilliant all season in the Top Quatorze so it was surprising to see such a one-sided match but Napoleon Dupont and his men were just on another level here. A proper drubbing!

As Toulouse fan i m super happy to retain the title after winning the champion cup, but i m feeling bad for Bordeaux. They collapsed physically but mainly mentally. I think they didn't manage the emotion of this game. They need to learn, but God, that was painful for them.

How did you see the game live in NZ? I just saw the replay on KZbin. Toulouse far too good. Realistically, the final was probably played between Toulouse and La Rochelle last week. UBB gave up a lot of opportunities all season, so the mistakes weren't surprising, just that other teams like Stade Francais cdnt score the points. Toulouse today were capitalising on everything. Sharks sensing blood in the water. Their bench is scary deep. Hopefully UBB take this as another step up and improve again next season

I think that Toulouse playing the game to the hilt during 83 minutes, all bench players trying to score collectively is not disrespectful; if someone showed lack of pride, it is some UBB players who stopped fighting after 60 minutes.

Justement non, en jouant tous les coups au maximum jusqu'à la dernière seconde, Toulouse a montré qu'il respectait vraiment l'UBB :) Ce qui aurait été un manque de respect c'est qu'ils surjouent, qu'ils soient arrogants, qu'ils finissent par se déconcentrer et que leur jeu se soit déliter, bref rien de tout ça n'est arrivé parce qu'ils les ont respectés de la 1ère à la dernière seconde du match. Ils sont restés sérieux et concentrés jusqu'à la fin. :)

For once you watch the top 14 it's a record victory. Poor Bordeaux guys they were devasted. Willis and Dupont were the one that stood out imo (Mauvaka also to a lesser degree).

Bordeaux was out of shape after 20 minutes, used some injured/out of shape players, wasted some opportunities and had no luck the rare times they played well. That was more painful to watch than enjoyable overall. Really felt for Lucu who did its best to keep its team above the water. Hope next season will be more balanced.

Yes and no. Their current golden generation are all about 27, so they potentially have a good few years of domination if managed well - but they’re not going to be around for ever. Toulouse have a great academy, but so do quite a few of the other clubs.

@@billasgija390 La Rochelle were very close in the semi. They had a poor start to the season but a very strong finish - if they continue that trajectory a lot is possible. And while Toulouse have a big budget, it is not massively different from most of the bigger Top 14 clubs - they just use it a bit more wisely sometimes. Leinster it feels at the moment are maybe slightly past their peak. They really mucked up the URC too. Glasgow were hugely impressive there in the play offs.

Brilliant game to watch, loved every minute of it. Some of the handling by Toulouse was sublime. Once again defence did the business. I’ve been critical of Blair Kinghorn in the past when he was playing 10. I’ve always thought he was a 15. I don’t know what they have done to him since he arrived but wow! The last few games he has been outstanding. Hitting rucks like a forward, great contribution to the team. Long may it continue. Looks like he is enjoying it.

C'est exactement ça! Il s'amuse, ils s'amusent. Ils prennent du plaisir à jouer, à tenter, à oser. Regarde comment le jeu de Kinghorn, Willis, Mallia, Chocobares a changé depuis qu'ils sont à Toulouse, comment même leurs personnalités se sont épanouies. Des joueurs étrangers comme Capuozo, Meafu, Aki, Arnold, Ainu'u, Merckler sont comme des poissons dans l'eau dans cette équipe, dans cet état d'esprit... @@kropotkine9640 Its been announced by world rugby that they are doing it and the french teams agreed. Basically what they going to do is run the champions cup group stage as normal, then the top 8 teams from the pool stage (top 2 from each pool i think) will take part in the club world cup which will happen in replacement of the champions cup knockout stages, the remaining 8 teams to qualify fron group stage will participate in a larger version of the challenge cup. So basically every 4 years there will be no champions cup knockout stage and it will be replaced by the club world cup. Thats what theyve released as of now anyway.

Not so much, Ainu, Akhi, Arnold, Chocobares, Elstadt, Kinghorn, Malia, Willis are foreign former or current internationals. I hope they will stay in Toulouse for the next two seasons. There are some young foreign players that went to ST academy to be discovered.

You're funny because top 14 is way more competitive than the URC Contrary to URC there's a relagation system in the top 14 this made it more important for each team to perform this mean that there are no Dragons or Zebre Parma in our Championship
