@marcusschou1843 Whether Vingegaard gets better from here is an open question. If he were training, I'm sure that he would. However, he's in the TdF fighting off attacks from Pogacar, which could be too much at this point. If his base fitness isn't where it needs to be, he could blow up in the high mountains. I don't think he or anyone knows how it will play out.

Look closely. Pogacar attacks. Jonas, unlike usual, is NOT glued to the wheel. Instead, he is looking at Roglic. Attacking and chasing come with enormous energy expenditure, negatively influencing all the coming stages. Instead, Jonas smartly worked together with Roglic, avoiding going above the FTP threshold for too long.

@rlm4471 5 ай бұрын
 @alexanderdeguzman-yj7rz Totally agree that Pogacar is a more exciting rider. However, you don't win the TdF by putting on a show for the fans. It's a game of chess. If you want to see racing where riders win by pure balls and willingness to suffer, you should focus on the spring classics. I think they are way more fun to watch than the big grand tours, where performances are usually much more measured due to the need to conserve energy for later stages.

To me, people who think that the style of Visma and the Sky train from the Froome days are boring are the type that prefer form over function and care about flashiness over fundamentals. I'll always appreciate the most efficient and effective methods of racing regardless of aesthetics, and Jonas proved this stage that being conservative is key for long stage races. Yes it's entertaining when Pogi and Remco attack like 20 times in 10k, but every time they do so i can't help but think they're idiots for wasting so much energy

@urpocok6954 22 perccel ezelőtt C'mon guys, that is ridiculous! Someone who has almost died (poetic pretence) a few months ago, now beats every other contenders?! Not only Pogacar, who - as they say - fatigued by the Giro (also have some doubts whether an easy won Giro causes more fatigue or an extra hole in a lung and some hiatus in several bones), but all of them!Noooo Way! Thank you Vingo, you spared me some afternoons to do some useful things instead of watching this b*llsh*t! Pity as there are some great stories: Bardet, Cav, Bini, Abrahamsen,):(

The only reason you say this is because you heavily invested in some other rider, I expect pogacar. Look Remco also took time on pogi from 50- 25 seconds, this was to be expected if vingegaard was in shape. Vingegaard takes time on the uphill pogi on the downhill.

@@TellusJD True, that I am more of a Pogi fan than Vingo, better suit that instinctive style than the "ride by the book". No, I am not saying what I am said because of that. I had no such comments during the last two editions, I can admit Vingegaard's talent, climbing and tactics skills, so, of his preparation would have been at least close to the planned one, then I would shut up and enjoy the race. But given the circumstances, his form is unbelievably unbelievable.

It looked like Pogacar let Vingegaard catch him on purpose cos it makes a better spectacle for the fans and media. Keeps it exciting.

Tadej could've beaten Jonas on the sprint if he conserved instead of trying to gain time.

it was intellegent racing by Pogacar. Jonas burnt a lot of matches today. Pogacar lost virtually no time (1 second) to him.

Agree, TP realized that JV is still strong and he won't gain anything by pushing harder than needed. Stage 15 and 19 will determine this years TDF champion since JV, RE and PR needs to gain from TP on those climbs or else TP will just ease up as well on another hellish stage 20 climbing.

@hjdykes Pogacar put in a big solo attack that lead to nothing. Jonas didn't do that. Aside from that, their efforts seemed about equal.

It’s obvious Pogacar is afraid of Jonas. This is playing out just like last year. Pog popped and had to wait for Jonas or blow up.

Tadej pushed to try to gain time and he got to see what cards Jonas had been hiding... Few more days before the mountain stages, definitely need to restrategise not to let JV gain time. May the best man wins...
