God bless you Mark! You are fighting the good fight. I have a brother named Mark who has been homeless and in and out of jails since his 20s and he's now in his 50s. He's a survivor and keeps positive. If we could get more politicians who are caring and could fight and push for affordable housing that would surely help. Keep positive buddy and take care of yourself get good rest and eat well. There is a song about homeless people called "pray for me" by Rob Crosby. On youtube if you listen to it it will touch your heart and soul. Thanks again Mark...

While your sentiment of not wanting to contribute to animal death is noble, your judging of others and ridiculing gifts bestowed the needy is very.... well... not very classy. Be like the prophet Daniel or Nanak but Jesus said not to Judge your brothers who partake, likewise, those who partake should not judge those who do not. The logic this scripture applies to "using the erb", it applies here, as there is no LAW AGAINST eating meat, its a person's option to step up to a more pious lifestyle, but they must do so without attempting to judge and shame others not in like mind.

I am from the UK. I have just discovered this channel. it breaks my heart to see people struggling. I was homeless myself for 19 months. I lived in a forest in a tent, a beaten up caravan in the scottish highlands, and in my car. i also did a live in job. I struggled, but i did it. i know i would have coped much better in a community like this one. I felt so unsafe and alone, even though i was with my partner and 2 dogs. I am now housed, but the adventurer in me misses the open space. i am also struggling to keep this small flat ( apartment). i think once you have a taste of getting out of the system, it is hard to get back in to it. I wish all the best for these people. They clearly care for each other. they are right, no one should be living like this, unless it is their choice to do so. The UK is terrible and the rise of homelessness is becoming higher by the year.

Hello Mark, I just wanted to thank you for everything you do to help get the word out about the homeless. I was homeless 33 years ago for two years and I understand the battle and the battles not bad enough with the elements and the fact that people treat you like a pariah. Little do those people know it could be them tomorrow. Keep up the good work Mark and I'll be sitting here praying that you get to help someone everyday and hopefully my disability will get better so I can do the same. I was only 20 to 21 years old when I was homeless and now due to being disabled I am one foot out the door to being homeless again and I thank God everyday for my family oh, if it were not for my mother and father I probably wouldn't be here. I'll be praying for you and all those that help and most importantly all those that are still living on the street to survive. Thanks for all you do and God bless! :-)

Think, there's more high spirits and good cheer in this community than some of your up market apartments surrounding Central Park New York...Goes to show there's somethings that can't be bought. Thank God!
@EvansvilleJill7 жыл бұрын
gerry morgan The folks in those apartments go in and close their doors. They rarely interact with their neighbors more than just in passing and they are dependent on no one. When you know your neighbors it’s because you see them more than just in passing. Realizing that we need each other is the fundamental difference between the folks in the apartments and the ones in the tents. Maybe it is economics, not having everything you need, but that’s not all of it. When you’re poor you have to ask for help, but you choose who you ask. The folks that are in the same situation are easier to ask for help from, because they know how it feels and it just makes it easier. If they can’t help they will bend over backwards to find someone who can and chance are it’s going to be someone that’s in the homeless community. It becomes a network. So sometimes you depend on them and they depend on you, you become friends and a community. I think total self reliance, which seems to be part of the great American dream, can make a human a lonely creature. I’ve seen whole families go into their house close the doors and every one of them go into separate rooms and close those doors. And they are seen as having attained the great American dream. It’s just so lonely. Sorry I didn’t realize how long this comment was getting. Bye!

Wool socks, bring them wool not cotton. Wool is an excellent insulator and maintains its insulation when wet. If some of these people have jobs they might consider buying a van. I've been forced to move into one with my disabled son. We live in the Boston area where rents are some of the highest in the country and all we have for income is my social security retirement and my son's disability check. I have created a KZbin channel to chronicle our transition from lifelong apartment dwellers to permanent van dwellers and share my tips for building habitable shelter in a van on a low budget, it's called VANgazmic Voyage. I applaud you for your work with the homeless, you are truly doing the Lord's work and God bless us all!

A van has to be dryer than a tent, would have to to be insulated though, & mould might be a problem to keep at bay.

Instead of living in a van why not get out of Boston? I'll give one example of a fairly big city with rents about a third of Boston: Tucson, AZ. You can get a 2br apartment in a safe area for $500 all day long there. Added benefit: no snow ever. A little closer to home: South NJ. The little towns between Philly & Atlantic City are fairly safe & way cheaper than anything near Boston. Tucson is the better bet just for the weather; I intend to retire there someday.
@donaldwhitehead11707 жыл бұрын
EntropyFan This is our home, we are deeply rooted here. My mother was born and raised in East Boston, I have dozens of family members scattered throughout the area. My children were born and raised in Salem and now my grandchildren are growing up here. My son is brain damaged from epileptic seizures five years ago and all his specialists are at Massachusetts General hospital, one of the finest in the world. And Boston's north shore and Cape Ann is a beautiful place to live, if you can afford it. Living rent free in the van has made it affordable. It's not as uncomfortable as you might think van dwelling in winter. I'm chronicling our voyage on my own KZbin channel called, "Vangazmic Voyage," please visit and you'll see what I mean. Best of luck in your retirement.

I have always gone out of my way to help struggling family members and coworkers. Now that I am homeless and in a destitute situation with unemployment and having a difficult time finding an in office call center jobs who have all gone remote due to the pandemic. I am presently staying at a shelter that costs money. I will be staying here until my funds run out. If they run out before I am able to land a job then I will end up on the streets.

I am not hating on President Obama because crap like that has been happening WAY before Trump, Obama or Trump. At least with the wars, they are fighting for something. With just GIVING our tax dollars to countries that hate us is reprehensible. Help our own disabled, addicted, elderly, Vets with that money.

I would like to say there is one simple answer, but sadly there is not...Get wood for shelter, learn how to make a mass rocket heater/stove, and wait to get kicked out...Keep a shopping cart around( to transport your rocket stove)..Build up another shack, until they move you on...learn to trap, grow a garden, fish, the world is your oasis...I understand the human need for their little own peace and quiet...

No trying to down these two but Ally , TJ really have no clue on what its like living in the jungle. They never talked to any of us down there and where lucky enough to have had that hut during the winter. I think you guys should have went deeper in the jungle. You guys could then see what it was really like staying in a tent in the jungle during the winter. Everybody thinks the jungle is a horrible scary place, but honestly i felt most safe there.

As of right now, Ithaca does have several homeless shelters, the old Red Cross shelter on W. State st. (W. ML.K.) was taken over by the Rescue Mission Alliance a few years ago, and I understand that the Court Street shelter has reopened, but that they are more of a rooming house, and charge rent. Unity House in Ithaca has "respite" accommodations, for people experiencing mental health issues. Ithaca has a zero- homeless cold weather policy, which dictates that, when the nighttime temperature drops below freezing, the homeless must be sheltered. The Rescue Mission shelter will take in as many as they can fit, on freezing nights, they put mattresses on the floor, etc., and the overflow from the shelters are usually put up in the Meadow Court motel, on Meadow St., but to get housed at the Meadow Court, the homeless must first get approved at Tompkins County D.S.S., on West Seneca St. Which might take hours, so people should get to the D.S.S. office early, and be prepared to wait. I believe that the jungle portrayed in this "Invisible People" video is the "new jungle", which is behind WalMart and Wegmans, the "old jungle" (that was portrayed in the Invisible People Google Glass 2013 video) was located on railroad property, and has been cleared. Ithaca has a drug and alcohol problem, like most college towns, and I understand that many people who reside in the jungle are ineligible for section 8, and other subsidies, because they have felony or drug convictions. Help is available, but comes with "strings attached" , so many jungle residents prefer to avoid the bureaucratic hassles. I have been doing social work in the Fingerlakes region for years. Life can be very hard here, the winters can be brutal. I do not recommend that people come to this area thinking that they will get a "free ride", it's easy to end up on the streets here, and it's nearly impossible to find housing. Carmen's Second Wind cottages are located near Ithaca, in Newfield, and charge rent.

***Bless you all*** Gabriel Brothers had turtle necks. I recently bought a few women's. I love them in the winter. My husband and I are OTR Trucker's. We sleep on a twin bed every night and live out of our semi as we save money to get another home. We have 4 grown children. My husband was a Coal Miner for years and they went under do to the EPA. He then went into GAS & Oil, same thing, they stacked all the rig's and again out of work. We live in a area that you either make 100k plus or your on welfare. We lost everything the 2nd time around. Even our 401k is gone. So we are trucking and hoping to clear 70k and get a home again. What's nice about these trucking companies is if you have a clean license, no recent DUI's they will train you and give you money while doing so. Feed and house you as well. It's great opportunity for homeless. If anyone looks into this check out Prime and Rohel Transport. They are two company's that treat you as a person and not a number. My husband got his CDL after high school as a back up in the future. When in-between career jobs he would truck. We've researched so much and failed with several company's. At the moment we are purchasing a semi through Rohel with no money down. We are never negative or in the hole and that's what matters. They offer health insurance after 2 to 3 months, retirement and so on. Perfect for those who are homeless but can drive and take no "scheduled" drugs. They will put you on a bus and get you started within 2 weeks. Driving isn't hard as long as you don't take narcotics, insulin by injection, or ADHD, mood stabilizer drugs. Best wishes everyone!

Thanks for the video. I worked in Hawaii as a Travel Nurse and not everyone that is homeless is on drugs. There are many other reasons too. A lot of homeless are Vietnam Vets and they just want to live apart from society for personal reasons, I truly honor those men and women..Hey next time you are up there tell Simbad that he can fry those canned biscuits or they can be broken apart and put in chicken stock soup to make some awesome dumplings..This West Virginia girl can make some good tasting stick to your ribs food for those cold winter days..and if I can't then my husband sure can, we take turns cooking..lol

Ithaca is so remote in the middle of no where so far from anything I’m shocked there’s a homeless city there!
@ncorp26687 жыл бұрын
If I had money, I would buy land, build a bunch of homes with air/heat/water/toilets and fill them with people and animals. No one (cats, dogs, non-native animals included) should have to suffer these temperatures outside. It's torture. The temperatures have been below zero, and I heard a couple of days ago about a guy freezing to death while walking home from somewhere. It's scary to think about just how easily one of these people or dogs could die in that tent city. If each person with a spare bedroom or even anyone that could offer access to an enclosure or garage with electricity could help one homeless person, these people could be helped RIGHT NOW. I hope the people in this town or nearby consider it.

ron sylvia, I volunteered with my local Catholic Church for years that funded meals for the homeless at the Catholic shelter. I now volunteer for another non profit but there are lots of church people out there helping. Thank God for the recent corporate tax plan, companies are reinvesting in the US, hiring, giving bonuses and raising wages, that eventually helps everyone but I suspect many of these people have unique challenges in that they don't want to live in a shelter. Do we want to force them to live in a facility where we know they'll be safe? We do it with our elderly in senior housing and memory care facilities, those are invisible people too.
