I don't believe the fundamental architecture of a personal computer has changed since the 80s when the PC was first created. This video was probably just as relevant in the 90s and the 2000s as it is now (apparently 'almost' 2024).. And it will continue to be just as relevant for a good many decades. Maybe after a century or two, long after Brin and Page and all the rest of us are gone, and if this video, if KZbin, if computers and if humanity survives, and future humans watch Aaron's video, it may amuse them to see a very instructive video tour of the inside of a computer from the early 21st century.

This is a very helpful video. Makes sense to see all the parts we know about conceptually. I haven't owned a desktop in a while and I guess the inside of a laptop may be more tightly packed. I had a laptop go slow and 'die' after a few years. Maybe it needs changing that tiny battery. I had no idea that a RAM / Memory Card was actually made up of 8 or so chips of flash memory in series, or that it was as easy to change Hard Drives or Optical Drives. A big thank you to Aaron for making this excellent video tour of the inside of a computer.
this has been VERY helpful to me, you are plain and simply awesome my dude.

Great video especially for beginners. However, you may want to mention that one should discharge themselves of static electricity or better yet, wearing a wrist strap connected to the ground hole in an outlet or a pad that you stand on.

I thought fingers are not supossed to touch that golden area of the RAM, currently taking comp tia a+ classes and my teacherd flipped when my fingers touched that part.
@aaronwissner2 жыл бұрын
When in doubt, I would go with your teachers recommendation as much as possible. I imagine that any oil from fingers might lead to water build up and then corrosion on exposed metal parts, especially with the very small size of the pins

@Zulu3692 жыл бұрын
Fantastic explanation. The only problem here is the fact desktop computers are very little use nowadays. They are on the verge of disappearing for good.
@ilkal35762 жыл бұрын
not really when you think about how many teenagers alone have powerful desktop computers for gaming alone
@JJFlores197 Жыл бұрын
Nah. They have become less and less popular over the years, but they are in no way on the verge of disappearing. PC gaming is still pretty popular. Yes, laptops have become very powerful over the years, with some very high end laptops rivaling the performance of desktop PCs. However, most laptops don't have the graphical power for most gaming. Desktop PCs generally offer better performance compared to laptops and mobile devices and are easily upgradeable and repairable. In the end, it depends on the use case. For people who don't need the power of a desktop computer, sure, a laptop or tablet may be good enough.
@therealNguniEmperor Жыл бұрын
That's like saying taxis are obsolete coz there are trains and buses, it's the options that count, not everyone wants a laptop, and computers are way better for streaming which is becoming more popular these days.

Wouldn't we have to change the clock battery when it runs out, like we do for watches and stuff??
@JJFlores1974 жыл бұрын
Yes. However, the clock battery lasts many years. Chances are high that you would probably upgrade to a newer system long before you need to replace the battery.

Can I ask if I have components on the inside of say it's like an air purifier and I need to change a couple of those little pieces like they look like I assume their batteries for the inside or whatever they make it work is there any way I could take it out of something else and put it into something else can I use those little bitty parts and swap them out of one machine to another so long as they work I mean like if it doesn't work obviously I can't but if it does work is there a possibility that I can a if I you know rather than buying new pieces for a part that I need to replace like let's say one of them gets Rusty is there anyway I can just take a fuse from one thing and put it into another to make it real you know come back on
