I like space, so the first one would be more intersting to me, and it's closer to the Asok intersection. But the price for just a 1-bedroom in Bangkok, is really high.

If you're interested, this Sunday, Oct 27 from 3 pm, there will be a royal barge procession from around Rama 8 Bridge to Wat Arun. The king will be offering monk robes as part of the end of the Buddhist Lent. 52 barges and 2,399 oarsmen (all Navy's I bet) w/ the main barge, the Golden Swan, being 130 yrs old bulit during King Rama 5 and finished King Rama 6. The procession is 1.28 km long. This pomp and ceremony follows an ancient protocol procedure to the last detail. It's going to be spectacular! Doesn't happen too often. Last time was during King Rama 10's coronation 4 yrs ago.

GREAT VIDEO! You nailed it with REALISTIC prices for central BKK. The wall density observation is a make or break for me anywhere in SEA and a must for every condo review! This vid is a perfect example of the differences of an older, HUGE 90 sq m, low floor unit and the newer, modern, yet much smaller tower units. I've lived in both scenarios in BKK and have to say the older buildings have so much more space and less residents overall which lends to a more private feeling. But dang... a washer-dryer combo is almost unheard of in Thailand... that could be a game changer.

The washer and dryer combo is the new luxury amenity haha. I agree with your overall opinion though. Cheers!

On these older units, the low rent/m^2 is offset by cooling costs of 2-3X the 30 sm units. So consider the possibility of >200 USD/mo for electric bill.
@thebangkokguide13 күн бұрын
@@_ckr definitely more expensive cooling but this one wouldn’t be more than $200 USD. Lived in an older place that was about 30sqm bigger than this one and electric was still normal less than $100 USD on average. The smaller places will often be around $30 or $40 though.

Number 2 is perfect for me. Love the sound insulation, size is good. Maybe at the top of my budget for rent but worth it. Looks like everything close by that I need like restaurants and.. more restaurants. I could live in that permanently if not for becoming a tax resident.

The first one was a good size at 90sqm but being a bit to outdated for me, I wouldn't pay 40k for it. The second one was nice and modern but way too small for me, so for 40k i would also pass on it. If I recall correctly, the first older one you previously showed in another video. Keep looking Cal, thanks buddy.

Important point to remember: everything (except food lol) is negotiable in Bangkok Tonnes of available condos for rent in central BKK. $40 k is the opening, somewhat optimistic figure by the owner. I would start the negotiation around $32 k and perhaps settle at $35 k

Very nice video Cal! As for me, I like condo #1 for the room itself (very homely feel to it). I also like condo #2 for the location and the amenities it’s offered. Easy solution is to do a 6 months lease on each property. Why choose one if you can have both? (just not at exact same time is all). 😉✌🏽

Cal, you are tall, so you tend to hold your camera up too high during your walk through. We aren't seeing much of the units below your chest. Lower the camera some, I find my self straining my neck trying to look down below your chest, but of course my neck doesn't change the vantage point that you control. Lol Same goes for your on the street videos, you film close to your body, chest up and we don't see much of your surroundings. Thanks, great job, seriously, you are very informative.

At this price point, I would think that a house rental might make more sense than a condo, if your priorities are maximum space & privacy. Condo units at this level might be better suited for those who prioritize luxury amenities & convenience, particularly with regards to easy access to popular locations (ex. city center, malls, restaurants, clubs, etc.). Over the years, I've noticed that, after a couple of months, many condo residents rarely use building amenities, and no longer notice/appreciate the spectacular views. So, unless you do a lot of entertaining & seek to impress your guests, it might be worth considering whether it is worth paying a premium for things which you are unlikely to take advantage of, over the long haul. Just my personal opinion. Feel free to ignore! :) Great vlog - very useful, interesting & informative to see the widest range of possible options, for living in Bangkok!

Always great to hear opinions. Houses offer excellent value. Probably the most undervalued accommodation in Thailand… a friend of mine rents a 4 story 6 bedroom house in Thonglor for 32,000 baht! I think that the newer condos tend to offer a novel experience for newcomers, and after a year or two the novelty wears off and people love to larger older condos or houses! Thanks for the input!

Definitely like the second condo best. You sold me on "Japanese Embassy". 😊 Not very big at all. I wouldn't be able to set up my monitors. Be kind of a pain to only use the conference rooms everyday for work, and then when I want to do my personal work/studies. Question: if a building has a lower occupancy rate, is it not true this is a red flag for a building that could potentially be lacking in maintenance, given that the building wouldn't be recouping the costs to keep it up? I like that you post when the building was built. ❤🔥🕉🕊

Big advantage of renting vs buying! If it starts changing in a way you don't care for, just pull up stakes and relocate at the end of your term. It seems a little small, and some of the amenities are not very useful to me, but I love the look and feel of #2. And the amenities I do like are great.
