Touring a $8,000,000 SUPER Duplex House in Sydney

Alexander Street is a duplex house that maintains a seamless connection between home and the external environment. Design company DKO Architecture works to admit light and fresh air into the contemporary beachside dwelling.
From its elevated position on one of Manly’s leafiest streets, Alexander Street catches the cross flow of breezes that drift through Sydney’s Northern Beaches. The duplex house expresses a material openness to the Sydney air, with a façade wrapped in panels of lightweight timber batons.
Internally, the duplex house is structured to reap the benefits of natural light. DKO Architecture ensures that the living spaces sit closest to the edges of the home, with floor-to-ceiling glazed windows maximising the positive impact of the sunlight. Multiple skylights prove an elegant means to filling the upper level with natural light whilst a singular skylight above a sculptural staircase casts dramatic shadows within the home.
The duplex house is also configured to encourage ventilation. A system of open-plan living sees spaces flow freely into one another. By keeping materials on the ceiling and floor flush to the flat surfaces, DKO Architecture creates uninterrupted lines that smoothly guide fresh air through the home when the external doors of the residence are opened.
Inspired by the natural coastal setting, DKO Architecture crafts a duplex house that is, above all else, breathable.
