As a child I was taught that because of their disbelief in Jesus, God temporarily blinded the eyes of the Jews and hardened their hearts. Well, when you think about it, that's actually profoundly ridiculous, since God specifically gave His words to the Jewish people. To turn around and "blind" them to their meaning, as is falsely preached by Christianity, is to call God a LIAR (God forbid!!) and is to believe that He called the Jewish people, Israel, and His Own words, ETERNAL, in error. This is a blasphemous belief!

Well, when we're children, we believe every last word our parents tell us, so if they only learned garbage from their parents, and their parents only learned garbage from THEIR parents....you get the picture! The main thing is, we started thinking for ourselves, and God led us to HIS Truth, as given to us at Mt. Sinai! When I left Christianity, it took me awhile to wrap my brain around the fact that there is no "Jesus" who saves us from our sins. I sure felt lost for awhile, I have to say! But thank God, organizations like Rabbi Singer's and Rabbi Skobac's existed, and I learned God's Truth from them - the more I read, the more it sunk in that Christianity was NOT from God!!

Serpent was already dealt with. Will always be enmity between it and man, will not talk, will crawl without legs and eat from the dust of the earth. Basically will have no need to cry out to G-d and have a close relationship with G-d. And the serpent didn't do anything wrong. Serpent is an animal that unlike man has no free will and did not have G-d blow his divine breath in it. Serpent correctly for an animal follows its own natural instincts and not what G-d says. was correct for an animal to say follow your natural urges.

When someone says when God originated from, they don't say "from ancient times", they say "He has no beginning, he originated from eternity". So to that point no, you inserted everlasting and eternity using an eisigetical approach into that verse. It says since ancient times, which would never be used to describe God as that would defile God's timelessness. "Ancient times" is a description that applies to finite beings like us, not an infinite being like God. God is timeless, ancient does not apply to God. Also, I get you are a bit blinded by your past bias from your nurture, but ancient and eternal are not synonyms. One if finite, the other is infinite. They cannot be compared. That would be comparable to saying, the fact that I know there is an apple in front of me means I am omniscient. There are certain words that only apply to God, such as eternal, everlasting, if Micah actually wanted to refer to God, he would have used them, and not words that apply to weak, pathetic, finite, mortal beings. Your cognitive dissonance literally shows when you yourself say "and the ancient reader", huh? But according to you ancient meant eternal, everlasting, so why are you applying it to a reader? Is a human reader eternal, everlasting? I'm guessing to this you'd bring up John 8:58, "Before Abraham was, I am" in order to support your case. Two issues, firstly, in the hebrew in Exodus, God does not say "I Am what I am" He says "I will be what I will be", but this can be argued against by saying "whoever wrote john wrote in greek and likely was comparing agaisnt the greek septuagint and not the Hebrew Bible". Which brings in the second point, in the greek septuagint, the words used for I am are "Ho On", whereas the words used for I am in John 8:58 are "Ego amin". If whoever wrote John himself wanted to allude to the parallel between what Jesus said and what God said (as Christian polemics argue), the writer of John would have used the same words for "I am". You only think they are the same because you read it in English and follow your pastor without looking up the original lagnuages.

I am not sure of the birthplace, but I understand Micah's passage as prophetic, as the scriptures in the Old Testament are multifaceted, both historical, in itself a lesson of life, a picture of God and many parts are a picture of the Messiah; therefore, from Ancient times, can refer to David (David wrote some of the prophetic Psalms that were about the Messiah and prophesy Jesus' death) and also can refer to God himself, as He is the Alpha and Omega, and no one can be more ancient, amd as Jesus claimed to be God. ('In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and was God' from John). Jesus did not necessarily need to be born in Bethlehem, but be from the line of David, which he was from Mary. Some also believe that the governor of Syria, Quirinius ruled on two occasions, the first time filing in whilst there was not a ruler, around the birth of Jesus or that he ordered the census whilst ruling from a different post, as there is no record of who ruled at that period of time. May God speak to you Tovia, O beloved of God and Jesus himself. May He come to you in your dreams and give you visions that open your heart to His truths. Amen.

@Sonia Ruth: Nowhere do the scriptures indicate that the "pillar of cloud" was God. It was a natural phenomenon that He used to guide the people. God does NOT become His creations - EVER! First of all, the "NT" is NOT scripture that was given to mankind by God, and is therefore useless for spiritual learning and growth. You need to actually LISTEN to what the rabbi is saying and then use your common sense to THINK about that "star" you mentioned. Look up into the night sky - can YOU ACTUALLY tell WHICH stars are DIRECTLY over your house??!! REALLY??!! The "star" story is just that - a STORY - a FANTASY - that DID NOT come from God. PLEASE do the research on how Christianity started, and you WILL discover, as thousands of us have, that it absolutely DID NOT come from God, Creator of the universe. When God gave us His Hebrew scriptures at Mt. Sinai, He specifically told us that those words are ETERNAL (i.e. STILL in effect and binding TODAY - a LIVING document!) and that we are NOT to follow ANY other teaching than what is in those Hebrew scriptures (see Deut. 13). Christianity IS another teaching, therefore, we are not to follow what it says - God's orders! BTW, we are NOT under any "captivity of sin". God gave us ALL 'free will' (Ezek.18:21-23, Deut. 30:14-16), and He specifically told us that we CAN keep His Laws, and can CHOOSE for ourselves, whether to do good or evil (i.e. obey or not obey what God said to us). All we need to do when we sin, is confess those sins, repent of those sins, and ask Him for His forgiveness, which He promised to give us, when we are SINCERE. No dead guy on a cross required - since He also told us that one man CANNOT die for another man's sins, and that we must each die for our OWN sins! See Isa. 55:7, Deut. 24:16, and Ezek. 18:20-32, Psa. 51:11-21, Jer. 31:29-30, Hos.6:6.

That verse that you say Matthew cut out aligns with the Gospels. Jesus said, before Abraham was, I AM. John said in the beginning was the Word and then explained that the Word became Flesh and dwelt among us. There would be no reason to “cut out that verse”, because the Gospel declares that Jesus was from “of old”. That scripture is speaking of someone coming, and that the person coming would be from of old. The Good Shepherd “1But thou, Beth-lehem Ephrathah, Which art little to be among the thousands of Judah, Out of thee shall one come forth unto Me that is to be ruler in Israel; Whose goings forth are from of old, from ancient days. 2Therefore will He give them up, Until the time that she who travaileth hath brought forth; Then the residue of his brethren shall return with the children of Israel. 3And he shall stand, and shall feed his flock in the strength of the LORD, In the majesty of the name of the LORD his God; And they shall abide, for then shall he be great unto the ends of the earth. His goings forth are from long ago, from the days of eternity." Also see Isaiah 9:6,7;41:4;44:6;48:12; Psalms 102:25; Proverbs 8:22,23 The Jewish source:Targum Isaiah " The prophet saith to the house of David , A child has been born to us , a son has been given to us ; and He has taken the law upon Himself to keep it , and His name has been called from of old , Wonderful counselor, Mighty God, He who lives forever, the Anointed One (Messiah),in whose days peace shall increase upon us." (Isaiah 9:6) Targum Isaiah states, "Thus saith the Lord , the King of Israel, and his savior the Lord of host; I am He , I am He that is from old; yes, the everlasting ages are mine, and beside me there is no God" (Isaiah 44:6) Hengstenberg says about Micah 5:2 ,"The existence of the Messiah in general, before His temporal birth at Bethlehem, is asserted; and then His eternity in contrast with all time is mentioned here." David cannot be spoken of in Micah 5 . He was not the Messiah nor was he from eternity past. If God could stop the sun in the sky why could He not move a star over a small town (Bethlehem)in Israel? To say Herod didn't kill the innocents, which fulfilled Jeremiah 31:15 , is saying that the historical evidence is false. The Rabbi speaks alot or truth but the small amount of falsehoods is enough to throw you onto the wrong path. The science of mathematical probability says that to just 11 of these prophecies coming true would be 5.76×10to the 59th power. The number is so large that for another person to fulfill all these prophecies would be in the realm of statistical impossibility.

Matthew used midrash in his book as an argument for the Jews. Its a way of taking important 'themes' from the Tenach and making them aolpolicable. In Croatian, a cross before a year indicates the year of death and is usually used together with a star which indicates the year of birth. If I understood correctly, the Rabbi is saying that the Messiah is a descendant of King David who was born in Bethlehem, which is not the same as the Messiah was to be born in Bethlehem i.e he could be born anywhere. But the Gospel according to Luke provides an explanation as to why the Messiah had to be born in Bethlehem, because of the census conducted by the Romans which required Joseph to travel to Bethlehem. It so happened that Mary was pregnant with Jesus at that time. So is there any record that the Romans periodically conducted a census in the territories ruled by them? The star could have been a ball of light moving through the sky to guide the Magi. On a clear night sky you could see the same constellation from the same country even several hundred kilometres or miles apart, because the stars are so far away, i.e the same constellation you see in London (England) might also be visible at Edinburgh (Scotland). Even if the stars moved you'd hardly notice, for example our star the Sun does not move. Each gospel writer seems to have written what was important from his perspective and may have deliberately left out many details. The conversation at the last supper in John's gospel is missing in all the other Gospels. These were the final words of Jesus to the 12 disciplines before the crucifixion. It is here that John reveals who Jesus said he was. Here Jesus tells Philip, "He who has seen me has seen the father, my father and I are one". Point is why was this statement made at the last supper to just the 12 disciples? Similarly Peter and Paul also would have prioritised the 3 years of the teachings of Jesus over everything else. Craig Boone, you are obviously very ignorant of biblical history. Micah 5:2 clearly does not refer to Jesus, because the context rules out Jesus. Micah was a contemporary of Isaiah. He prophesied in about 700BCE, which is about 300 years after King David (who reigned in about 1000BCE). Prophet Micah is addressing the house of David, who was born in Bethlehem. Look at the context: Verse 2 says that he will be "ruler in Israel" But your problem is that Jesus was NOT a ruler in Israel or anywhere else! So you can't claim it is Jesus. How are you identifying Jesus, given the context? Micah 5:3 indicates that there will be a re-uniting of the brothers or tribes of Israel (i.e. the ten lost tribes of Israel). But this never happened in Jesus’ time. Jesus did not re-unite the Jewish people. Verse 4 prophesies peace when this ruler comes. it continues that Assyria will invade the land, but be unsuccessful. Instead, the Jews will push back and conquer Assyria. So this is what that ruler is supposed to do - lead the Jews to defeat the Assyrians. But how was that fulfilled by "ruler" Jesus?! And Jesus did not bring peace (verse 4).

This is what convinced me that this passage is Messianic as opposed to just about a typical human ruler. This is about the "Son of Man" in Daniel 7. Now, Tovia's view that this is about David sounds plausible but it has some major problems. Firstly, it says "one WILL come who will be a ruler". So this has to be about a ruler after the prophet Micah. Secondly, Micah was only about 300 years after David. So would he really say that David was from ANCIENT times? I mean, I think Benjamin Franklin lived a long time ago but I wouldn't say he was from ancient times.

I'm not sure what English translation you quoted there, but the KJV says "And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. " End quote. Th I don't see a replacement of anything at all there...... And at best, all you can argue is that the writer stopped his quote short to twist the meaning.....which is a little crazy since Christians all believe that Jesus had his origin from Olam olam since he is quoted saying "before Abraham was, I Am."........ These points you raise work on an uneducated audience that are already looking for a reason not to be a Christian.

Rabbi as you have pointed out that Matthew quotes like 11 citations from the Tanakh, should tell you that his gospel is all about Jesus fulfilling prophecies as proof that he is in fact the messiah. It’s a no brainer. The idea that you think Matthew is tampering with scripture just because he didn’t cited the whole verse of Micah 5:2 does not affect Gods truth or change is it in anyway. You would do the same thing if you wanted to prove that a certain Jewish person you believed in your heart was the messiah. You would quote from Tanakh only what is relevant to the case you are building to prove your guy is the real Jewish messiah. No harm done.
