We don’t need the oral Torah. It says horrifying things about women and about sexuality with little children. And other repellant things in general. King Josiah found lost scrolls, written scrolls, that had been forgotten. The Torah have been lost and forgotten for a long time before that. If they were forgotten, how in the heck was an oral law going to be preserved? Where is any oral law even mentioned in the Bible? If you are a female you need to learn that you not what the Talmud says you are, but what the Torah says you are. Study women like Deborah and Jael and Hulda and even Rahab. I have examined the Talmud and I have studied the Bible for years. The Talmud absolutely does not help me in anyway at all to better understand the Torah. In fact it seriously contradicts the Torah. I assume this post will be removed. I hope you see it before then.

@@loricalass4068 Yes, we do need the Oral Torah. it is impossible to just have only the written Torah, since question is coming up on how we shall understand texts which are very old and that we do not have this enviroment around us. You see all the educating books is a sort of Oral Torah for the Christians which is needed for many to understand the Bible. It is just the same for us Jews. However with the very big difference and tha tis that Talmud is a DISCUSSIONBOOK with all sorts of opinion clashing against each other as waves in a stormy sea, a sort of Juridic discussion without a bottom line. Will all opinion be the right one or is it an open discussion which goes along through generations up to our time. You will read good points and bad points because this is how it is among humans. But G-d is in it all there you have a discussion in chevruta to make your intellect skarp. Jesus told the Jews to listen to the scribes and Pharisees not because of their oral tradition, but because of their office - the seat of Moses. He was telling them to submit to leaders. However, Jesus clearly rebuked the Pharisees because of their slavish adherence to oral tradition and and its inevitable effect: the lowering of God's commands. Matthew 15:1-9 (NAS): 1 Then some Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said, 2 “Why do Your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.” 3 And He answered and said to them, “Why do you yourselves transgress the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? 4 “For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother,’ and, ‘He who speaks evil of father or mother is to be put to death.’ 5 “But you say, ‘Whoever says to his father or mother, “Whatever I have that would help you has been given to God,” 6 he is not to honor his father or his mother.’ And by this you invalidated the word of God for the sake of your tradition. 7 “You hypocrites, rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you: 8 ‘This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far away from Me. 9 ‘But in vain do they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the precepts of men.’ ”

The New Testament does not prove for instance the veracity of the Oral Law, as in many instances the in the New Testament there is a disparaging opinion of the Oral Law. Can the Oral Torah be completely written out or is this a language/culture barrier?
@KaraiteKohen4 жыл бұрын
As a Karaite Jew, I have for the most part great respect for Rabbi Singers "Let's Get Biblical" series and the vast corpus of his analysis regarding the false teachings of Christianity. However, I write to respectfully dissent from Rabbi Singer's mistranslation of the Torah Deuteronomy 16:1 and explain how the biblical calendar worked prior to the advent of the Rabbi Hillel II z'tl (b330-d365). I agree with Rabbi Singer that the Hebrew Calendar cannot be 354 days (at 14:33), and the Creator biblically gave us a self-correcting mechanism to adjust the Calendar. In Rabbi Singer's version of Deuteronomy 16:1 he translates (or should I say mistranslates) the term ("הָאָבִיב") HaAviv as "Springtime" resulting in the rather forced translation Month of Springtime. In the Torah however we are told: The story of the Exodus relates "This day you are going out in the the month of the Aviv." (Ex 13:4). To commemorate that we left Egypt in the month of the Aviv, we are instructed to bring the Passover sacrifice and celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread (Chag HaMatzot) at this time of year. In Dt 16:1 we are commanded: 1 Observe the month of Abib, and keep the passover unto the LORD thy God; for in the month of Abib the LORD thy God brought thee forth out of Egypt by night." Similarly, we are commanded in Ex 23:15: "You will keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread; seven days you will eat unleavened bread, as I have commanded you, at the time of the month of the Aviv, because in it you went out of Egypt." The same is commanded in Ex 34:18: "You will keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread; seven days you will eat unleavened bread, as have I commanded you, at the time of the month of the Aviv, because in the month of the Aviv you went out of Egypt." What is Aviv? Aviv indicates a stage in the development of the barley crops. This is clear from Ex 9:31-32 which describes the devastation caused by the plague of hail: "And the flax and the barley were smitten, because the barley was Aviv and the flax was Giv'ol. And the wheat and the spelt were not smitten because they were dark (Afilot)." The above passage relates that the barley crops were destroyed by the hail while the wheat and spelt were not damaged. To understand the reason for this we must look at how grain develops. When grains are early in their development they are flexible and have a dark green color. As they become ripe they take on a light yellowish hue and become more brittle. The reason that the barley was destroyed and the wheat was not is that the barley had reached the stage in its development called Aviv and as a result had become brittle enough to be damaged by the hail. In contrast, the wheat and spelt were still early enough in their development, at a stage when they were flexible and not susceptible to being damaged by hail. The description of the wheat and spelt as "dark" (Afilot) indicates that they were still in the stage when they were deep green and had not yet begun to lighten into the light yellowish hue which characterizes ripe grains. In contrast, the barley had reached the stage of Aviv at which time it was no longer "dark" and at this point it probably had begun to develop golden streaks. Parched Aviv We know from several passages that barley which is in the state of Aviv has not completely ripened, but has ripened enough so that its seeds can be eaten parched in fire. Parched barley was a commonly eaten food in ancient Israel and is mentioned in numerous passages in the Hebrew Bible as either "Aviv parched (Kalui) in fire" (Lev 2,14) or in the abbreviated form "parched (Kalui/ Kali)" (Lev 23:14; Jos 5:11; 1Sam 17:17; 1 Samuel 25:18; 2 Samuel 17:28; Ruth 2:14). While still early in its development, barley has not yet produced large enough and firm enough seeds to produce food through parching. This early in its development, when the "head" has just come out of the shaft, the seeds are not substantial enough to produce any food. At a later stage, the seeds have grown in size and have filled with liquid. At this point the seeds will shrivel up when parched and will only produce empty skins. Over time the liquid is replaced with dry material and when enough dry material has amassed the seeds will be able to yield "barley parched in fire". Aviv and the Harvest The month of the Aviv is the month which commences after the barley has reached the stage of Aviv. 2-3 weeks after the beginning of the month the barley has moved beyond the stage of Aviv and is ready to be brought as the "wave-sheaf offering" (Hanafat HaOmer). The "wave-sheaf offering" is a sacrifice brought from the first stalks cut in the harvest and is brought on the Sunday which falls out during Passover (Chag HaMatzot). This is described in Lev 23:10-11, "When you come to the land which I give you, and harvest its harvest, you will bring the sheaf of the beginning of your harvest to the priest. And he will wave the sheaf before the Lord so you will be accepted; on the morrow after the Sabbath the priest will wave it." From this it is clear that the barley, which was Aviv at the beginning of the month, has become harvest-ready 15-21 days later (i.e by the Sunday during Passover). Therefore, the month of the Aviv can not begin unless the barley has reached a stage where it will be harvest-ready 2-3 weeks later. That the barley must be harvest-ready 2-3 weeks into the month of the Aviv is also clear from Dt 16:9 which states: "From when the sickle commences on the standing grain you will begin to count seven weeks." From Lev 23:15 we know that the seven weeks between Passover (Chag Hamatzot) and Pentecost (Shavuot) begin on the day when the wave-sheaf offering is brought (i.e. the Sunday which falls out during Passover): "And you shall count from the morrow after the Sabbath, from the day you bring the sheaf of waving; they will be seven complete Sabbaths." Therefore, the "sickle commences on the standing grain" on the Sunday during Passover, i.e. 2-3 weeks after the beginning of the month of the Aviv. If the barley is not developed enough so that it will be ready for the sickle 2-3 weeks later, then the month of the Aviv can not begin and we must wait till the following month. It should be noted that not all the barley ripens in the Land of Israel at the same time. The wave-sheaf offering is a national sacrifice brought from the first fields to become harvest-ready. However, the first-fruit offerings brought by individual farmers can vary in ripeness anywhere from "Aviv parched in fire" to fully ripe grain which may be brought "crushed" or "coarsely ground". This is what is meant in Lev 2:14, "And when you bring a first-fruit offering to the Lord; you shall bring your first-fruit offering as Aviv parched in fire or crushed Carmel" (Carmel is grain which has hardened beyond Aviv to the point where it can be "crushed" or "coarsely ground"). All of the above passages have been translated directly from the Hebrew and it is worth noting that the King James translators seem to have only understood the various Hebrew agricultural terms very poorly. In Lev 2:14 they translated Carmel as "full ears" and "Aviv" as "green ears" whereas in Lev 23:14 they translated Carmel as "green ears"! In summation, barley which is in the state of Aviv has 3 characteristics: It is brittle enough to be destroyed by hail and has begun to lighten in color (it is not "dark"). The seeds have produced enough dry material so it can be eaten parched. It has developed enough so that it will be harvest-ready 2-3 weeks later.

And what came out of G-d's Mouth to Moshe was the Oral Torah, then G-d told Moshe to "Write These Words Down", which then made G-d's Oral Torah into the Written Torah. HaShem told us we are not to add to nor take away from His Words Written in the Torah that He gave to Moshe. it does not get any simpler than that.... Leo Wise; I understand your dilemma if you choose to argue with a Christian who is trying to proselytize. (I was a Christian for 10 years but I didn't push my religion on others.) - Getting back to the Gospel attributed to Matthew; at the end of chapter 23 and chapter 24; there are a collection of conflicting predictions which the writer puts into the mouth of Jesus. - If a fundamentalist Protestant Christian missionary tried to convert me (I'm Noahide and my stepfather is Jewish and my mother is a Jewish convert but on this channel the missionaries don't worry about the details. They are trying to convert me.) - Again, if a missionary tried to use Matthew: 23:39 on me, I would ask; who is going to build the Third Temple? Matthew 24:2 predicts the destruction of the Second Temple. Matthew 24:15 says “the holy place” will exist at the End Times. That is the Jewish Temple. Inside the Temple will be “‘the abomination that causes desolation’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel” - This refers to the Second Jewish Temple where the Greek rulers of Israel put statues on and into the Temple. - But the Second Jewish Temple was destroyed and a new one needs to be built so this "abomination" can take place in the future as part of the Christian End Times. * So, there is a contradiction. - The Christian missionary argues; If there are Jews then Jesus cannot return. - But if there are no Jews, then the Third Jewish Temple cannot be built and Jesus cannot return. (One of my Christian ministers said years ago that Jesus could not return unless a Third Temple was built in Jerusalem.) * Another reason why the Jews are not stopping the second coming of Jesus according to the New Testament. Matthew 24:14 says the gospel has to be preached to the whole world. This has not happened. There are still places in the world where a Christian missionary has not preached. * When debating a Christian missionary their argument can never be "toast" (as you put it for yourself). Because the goal of the Christian missionary is to get a conversion. Being consistent and logical isn't the main point for the missionary. - In the 30,000 Christian denominations there is always a counter argument about every Christian Bible question to get that conversion. * My final advice is, don’t be afraid to walk away from a discussion with a missionary.

The Sadducees rejected resurrection. That is an absolute mind blower that the Jewish oral Torah developed because of the Christian Bible. It is so interesting to see how views developed from both sides and how reality has come into being by confusion that needed clarification from both sides. As one who is adopted meaning I have an understanding of rejection and acceptance and being born into a world of strangers that I’ve developed a third person viewpoint, and the way I think is about how sides develop their views. I’m adopted into the Coptic Orthodox Christian Church and from that viewpoint we didn’t take on politics so the state was not to have pre- immanence in the faith. The Muslims saw to that anyway. As for other Christian Churches well state control I believe puts political aims as Christian aims and subverted Gods purpose. But I see the difficulty that these state run Christians had in that how could you convey what is an essentially message of love from God that is going to return you back to Him, and the difficulty of other nations who believe in other Gods and always at war with neighbours and themselves. I think it could only be done in the ugly way it was done. There is a viewpoint being made about Jesus being made to look perfect image wise way in the world, well isn’t that the Jews that say they are Jacob (Israel) and not Esau? If they are Esau then it might put reality on a different perspective that they are the firstborn cheated out of inheritance and the associations with it. I believe I have a solution that I would like to give but only to you Rabbi Tovia Singer but I don’t know how to go about contacting you.

Why would Yeshu vouch for the authority of the Soferim and P'rushim if his intention was to create a new religion based upon his being the Anointed King? Answer: He was not the Anointed King and he had no intention of creating a new religion with his person serving as its axis mundi. Why would the church preserve and ignore these verses? These verses clearly demonstrate the folly of replacement theology and antinomianism. If Yeshu is a fictional literary character created by Rome to control the Jews and/or the Empire as a whole, then why have Yeshu tell the people to do and observe whatsoever the Jewish Sages told them to do and observe? Why not simply have Yeshu say, "Obey the dictates of Rome!"...?

@Sam Samuels - I'm just tired of people spinning conspiracy theories when there are clear patterns of history repeating itself, especially where Jewish Messianic movements are concern. One need only look to the Lubavitcher Meshichists to see how quickly a historical figure can fall victim to the cult of personality and be elevated to the status of Boreinu Elokeinu by grief stricken Jews.

@Sam Samuels - Sam, could you please try to be a little less snarky? I'm trying to wrap my head around why you and the moderator are so jazzed about Atwill. So, Tacitus writes that the fire in Rome during Nero's reign is blamed on the Xtians. That predates the destruction of the Temple. So, when exactly did Josephus pen the "NT"...? Or was Tacitus the Jew-hater in on this conspiracy and lied about there being Xtians in Rome during Nero's reign? When did the first Xtians who bought into this fiction actually arrive on the stage of world history?
@smodval67934 жыл бұрын
@Sam Samuels - No, I read it. It's just so convoluted and so poorly tied together that it doesn't make sense. And it seems to be a rehash of earlier conspiracy theories with new players replacing the old ones. Even other mythicists don't buy into it and they have no "Jesus" bias.

@Strava 89 - So by their fictional Jesus saying "obey the Jewish Sages" they thought that the Jews would say, "Hey! This Messiah that we never saw or heard of sounds really Jewish, so when his predicted 'Son of Man' appears at the time when the Temple is destroyed we should follow him, even if he isn't Jewish?" Do you see why I'm having trouble with this conspiratorial plan and why it didn't work on the Jews? I'm trying here, honestly. This is how I felt reading Atwill the first time. Even if everything he said is true ... it didn't work on the Jews. Rome already had their slaves and citizens bowing to the Imperial Cultus, so why insert their failed Jewish Messiah into the equation?

The New Testament is an interpretation of the old. By Greek writers who tried but failed. Yeshua is free from their beautiful words. But like the Pharisees the church changed the Sacred. Though the Messiah through God's Mercy was sent early, to challenge their corruption. But they planned against God's plan. For the Lord will legthen his days. Read with righteousness towards the Father then you'll understand the Son. Yeshua wanted willing rebellion towards the Romans but to first get the house in order. The Psalms logs his complaint. With due respect to the rabbi, he does not understand his own bible. There is a theme in the bible that starts after Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating the forbidden fruit. The devil in the form of a serpent deceived Eve and she fell for it. God addresses the problem with Adam and promises a Messiah who would bruise the head of the setpent; in other words destroy him. When Abraham nearly sacrificed his son God stopped and he provided the sacrificial lamb Himself as explained by Abraham. When God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac, His goal was to let Abraham see what God would do for the world through sacrificing his son Jesus Christ. The Jewish sacrificial system i.e. the killing of a spotless lamb as a sacrifice for their sins signified what Jesus would do for them and hence the lamb represented Christ. The messiah is herald in old testament throught the same. The problem is that the Jews misinterpreted the bible and ended up with their own idea of messiah who is not biblical. God's idea of messiah us much more superior because when Christ returns for the second time he will eradicate sin for good and will restore the Garden of Eden and we will live forever with God in a perfect world. On the itger hand, the non messianic Jews are seeking temporary peace. No wonder they rejected and still reject their Messiah. Regardless Christ is coming back as Lord of Lords and King of Kings. My hope is that our Jewish non messianic Jews will see their Messiah in both the old and new testament because the two are inseparable. One simple question: why would 11 of Jesus' apostles die such horrible deaths including Paul who was a zealous non messianic Jew? The rabbi needs to put the entire new testament into context because isolating scripture and then drawing a conclusion on the same distorts the intend message. Christians believe (some) that keeping the law can not be separated from faith. Abraham exercised both. In order for the Law to be kept we need Jesus in our lives. He is the one who transforms us. The old testament Jews failed to keep the Law that is why God kept raising prophets like Jeremiah and Isaiah whom they rejected as false prophets.

Man created religion from the instructions and teachings by making them laws. Man was already worshiping false gods and idols, when God showed them who thier God was, and how to live as one. As men were seperated for a cooling of period, they came back to more chaos having learnt nothing. GOD made the world, was in the world, and rejected by the ones He made in His image. Throughout the whole Bible is GOD wanting to be the Only Father you will ever need. How will He be known? Who is going to give up thier fleshly dark desires and seek thier spiritual light side, the image of the Father you were made in. Heaven and earth are one together and that is you, seperated when earth follows earth more than the heaven within you. Becoming one as a son of the Father you need to repent... look within and seek the kingdom in you. All the teachings of how to be clean, eat clean etc... is pointing to your spiritual nature, how to remain pure in the light of the Father, how to digest the words of scripture, and how to walk straight, not with a divided hoof in any direction that suits you, eating (digesting information) from scoffers that will pull you backwards instead of forward towards GOD. We are unholy to become Holy when in the Spirit of the Father. As two become one... GOD the Father, you the SON, one HOLY SPIRIT.... Echad. Yeshua came in the name of the Father.... would have been easier if he carried a board above His head saying" GOD is your Saviour " instead of having the very same message as His name. He is the sign pointing you to the Father, to be one in Him. You cannot be in peace without having peace within.... follow him to the Father, allow him to show the way, for he was sent with truth, so you to can also have eternal life in the Father as one, on Earth as it is in Heaven.

we know for sure Paul lied about Tanakh in the book of Hebrews, even my Hindu cat knows this!! Hebrews (10:5-7), "Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. Then said I, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God." This is quoted from Psalm 40:6-8a. The author has misquoted. For the Hebrew Old Testament text does not say, "body," but "ears" referring to the idea of obedience, and the Scripture, "to obey is better than sacrifice" (1 Sam. 15:22). 'Ears' is a Hebrew idiom, i.e. "to hear" is to "obey"; the idea of 'body' in the text reintroduces the idea of sacrifice where obedience is sought and contradicts the whole idea alluded to in 1Sam. 15:22! The LXX does not confirm Hebrew's rendering also. It also has the word 'ears'.

Interesting video, however I must say that all your use of the verses in the New Testament is out of context. Yes, we know the Jews are the chosen people of God and we never denied that, and Jesus and the apostles did call the pharisees smart, because they knew the law, the *written law* better than anyone. However, that's different from saying that they knew of laws that weren't written. All the laws Jews practiced before the fall of the Second Temple were written for everyone to see. There was never any law used by the Jews in the New Testament that wasn't written. Traditions, which are many times not written, are not the same as laws. In fact, the proof that Oral Law wasn't a real thing until the fall of the Second Temple is that Jews that lived out of Israel, like in Ethiopia, didn't know anything about an Oral Law when they came back to the Holy Land. God bless you :)
