Brian, I had servo failure on first flight and had to replace fuselage. Might be very difficult to replace the main gear servo ad it's pretty well buried in a waterproof cavity. I dissected the fuselage to bench test the gear servo. It's substantially more robust than the other plastic gear servos...which I replaced with Hitec servos. I put my gear on a 2 second timer which might help to take some of the stress off its servo. I may fiddle with the radio a bit to help extend the servo lifetime. Keep up the good work.

Hi, nice video!! One question, have you ever made a video showing how to correctly hold your fingers on the gimbal of the remote control? And I wanted to ask you if you have ever adjusted the tension of the gimbals, I have a nx8 Spektrum and I think that maybe by tightening them a little I can make more accurate movements... but I have to try... I ask you because I see that you are very good and precise in the maneuvers, thanks.

Hey B P I have been trying to get into this hobby for a long time and you r perfect for me to learn. I’m a little technologically challenged and watching your radio set up is awesome even if I have to watch it a couple of times. You and your wife are awesome together keep up the good work!!

Nice real video Brian, talk about smoke on the water! The video and comments made me think twice about modifying a few important areas. I recently just purchased the Seawind with your suggested price, can’t beat it. Looks like I will be flying off of snow bcuz it is winter here in Wisconsin. I will wait for water in the spring time. Meanwhile looks like winter ops.

yeah, but keep an eye out for the WATER RUDDER...it might break off on you, like mine did. you can just take that out, or disconnect the linkage, and TAPE it up.

I didn't know Tower Hobbies made a smaller Seawind Seaplane. I have had the Great Planes 71" Seawind Seaplane with an electric conversion for 10 years now. One of my favorite lake flyers. It's got an old Rimfire 50-55-500kv motor Castle Creations Phoenix 80a ESC and 13x8E APC Prop. Still flying it on an old Electrify Power Series 6s1p 3200mah lipo that still works. I need this smaller version to add to my collection. I'm still trying to fly the smaller great planes version. This is awesome. Thanks for the remarkable review and flight, Brian. Super exited to get one.

Oh Man!! I've been dying to see you do a water ops video on this plane! And it didn't disappoint 😂 I love the smoke feature!! I'm totally going to drag my Maule to my dad's place, by the river and float fly that bad boy. Thanks for the inspiration. 👍

Brian, I purchased this plane for my annual lake trip this year and had the exact same problem. I had 40 + flights on the plane over the course of 7 days and only extended the gear to make battery loading easier. I didn’t even taxi the plane on the gear as I was flying from a floating dock. On the last day when I was braking the plane down to transport it home I found that the main gear would not extend and I could smell a burning cent. I believe the main gear servo overdrive the retract mechanism and froze causing the servo to burn out before I could figure out what happened. If you remove the clear plastic cover cover the servo horn I believe you will discover the same thing happened to yours This was my second Seawind. I had to send the first one back because it came with a stripped main gear servo. This will be a dedicated float plane because major surgery is required to replace what I consider to be a poor quality servo and a bad design
@rc-fannl73644 ай бұрын
Seems like a design flaw, making the servo run too far and lock up.
@FarmerFpv4 ай бұрын
Did you set the endpoints? It will over-extend and over-retract if you don't. Also if they get stuck for any reason the servo with smoke. I always tug on the gear before I put my gear down to make sure it's not catching on anything. Not sure why they don't put any of that information in the manual. It's a shame because it is such a beautiful plane. This could have been prevented if they used a better digital driver for the gear. Which is probably what I'm going to end up doing. I have the Great Planes 71" Seawind brushless conversion. If you can find one you need to get one. Sometimes the ARF kit will show up on eBay or RCGroups. I also have the Flyzone 56" Seawind which is a very nice model. If you can find one swoop it up. Totally worth it. I also heard on RCgroups that they were going to bring back the Flyzone 56" Seawind. There has been a demand for it.
@frankm89304 ай бұрын
Yup, you’re right. Unfortunately the servo burnt out before I realized it was a problem. This is something that should be done at the factory or at the least be addressed in the manual. It wouldn’t be such a big deal if it wasn’t such a project to replace the servo. Big miss by HH/TH.

I had the same thing happen to me with my Seawind with the main gear servo dieing. And i only flown it 6 times. I looked at a lot of forms and found out that they use really cheap servo that does hold up. And to replace that servo you have to cut the top of the fuse and the screws are not easy to get to either. I replace both retract servos with stronger metal geared ones.
@upperechelon34564 ай бұрын
Great video Brian. I'll be adding this to my hanger. Most likely I'll wind up swapping out the esc and motor making it a 4s bird. The servo replacement shouldn't be all that bad.

Burned out on the pond?!? No way!! More pond!! In fact, I'd love to see stuff chucked in the pond that has no business at all being anywhere near a pond 😂 Lets see an ebike with paddle tires go across the pond!! Sorry. Jk. Brian's had enough head injuries. But, I'm loving the water ops. Can't wait for some of the float equipped planes you've done over the past few years to get their, "moist maden" on youtube. UMX TTE?? FMS Maule?? PA18 1.7m?? Or have any of those wonderful child labor, mad scientists in the basement 3D printed a set of floats for the Micro Draco, yet? That would be cool. And not impossible... hehe. 👍

Neat plane. Keep the float planes coming. The internet or the manual will tell you how to change the servo out.

If a servo has a job to do and you stop it from doing that job like the mud did, it will fry.
