First, you’re a lucky man, to have a lady that is really supportive of the hobby. Second. It’s cool that you show people that you and your family is about as typical as any hard working families out there with clutters in their house. 👍. Thirdly. Damn! All those airplanes all over the place!! 😂😂😂

Brian I used a pvc cutter that can easily cut up to 2 inch diameter pvc pipe. It is ratcheted to make it easy to use as it cuts. Big benefits include no pvc crumbs and associated mess; less waste; less noise; costs way less ($12) than a chop saw; and takes less total time since you don’t have as much cleanup. Congrats on getting your hangar organized and making it easier to store your airplanes. Great job on demonstrating how to build pvc stands. I built pvc racks to mount on the garage walls since I don’t have the floor space in the garage. Thanks for making your videos. Always informative and entertaining!

You do have a challenge for sure. I found by removing the wings, I can better manage my available space. Racks on the wall for fuselage, and I built a rack with pegs on a section of the wall, BUT, on hinges so I can stack winge (20) and lift the rack to the ceiling, out of the way and lots of head clearance. Works GREAT. For the aircrafts where you can't or won't remove wings, that is another challenge. (rafters)

I'm a Patreon. Brian, I made these PVC stands a couple of years ago but out of bigger diameter pvc. And I put wheels on them to move them around easier. Huge advice! Run wooden dowels down through the inside of the pvc. Locks everything all together, makes them 10 times stronger. If you don't then the stands will slowly lean over and then fall with everything on them. Unless you run fishing line from the ceiling or similar to hold them upright. The dowels make them more mobile. And cut pieces with a pipe cutter and you won't have any mess.

The chop saw may be a little quicker, but it's louder with a lot more mess. I use a purpose built pvc cutting tool that's relatively simple to use and cheap, and it's worked out pretty well for my storage needs.

Maybe a WW-2 theme. Might be a cool place for storage/workshop for the collection. Lol, I'm definitely thinking about one myself

Like this - www.archbuildings.com/blog/product/20x58-steel-arch-farming-storage-building/ That would be cool, but we want to get a real plane inside...I don't know how we would do a door broadside on that type of building? Also, I want it to be 20ft sidewalls, or possible 16 foot, with the door on the wide side, which would be unusual, and probably requiring a steel span AKA way more money. We haven't even 100% settled on our building side, but we DO now have two 40' HQ (9.5' Tall) containers with doors on both ends. They have been instrumental in helping us clear out some space in our basement for the installation of our backup batteries, which will be happening not next week, but the following week, if all goes to plan. Once this is done, we have plans to finish the living quarters side of the basement, then get the shop setup in a more permanent fashion. Once this is done, we should be working out the "bugs" on where exactly the "dam gift shop" will sit...since we'll need to build that pad too. It's been a lot of work, and we're really only just starting, so can't wait to get this all behind us, so we can be using it all! It's gonna be an epic journey, and hope you'll be following along ;)

pro tip: buy some pipe insulation to give the wings a little extra cushion on heavier models
@BrianPhillipsRC
@BrianPhillipsRC 7 ай бұрын
yes, we've heard this, and I've done it too, but I can say that "sticker" style is PRICY!!!!!! And it does make the gaps smaller, so if you're not storing BIGGER planes, I suggest you get some weather strip - WAAAAAY cheaper ;) You know, the 1" X 0.25" or some such size...just pull the adhesive backing and you can apply a 10-15" stip, and you'll get the same, or similar results. I just need to figure a way to make them more solid...glue would help, but at the moment, I really just need them TALLER...we have high ceilings, and I need to take advantage.

A PVC cutting hand tool is no dust and no material wasted and nearly as fast as the chop saw. Lightly chamfer the outer edges with a utility knife or sandpaper. If there is no intention to use adhesive then a light coating of grease of some sort would allow rapid disassembly. I would go a step further and glue the horizontal supports to the tees. Makes it easier to twist that section off the vertical supports. Could even heat the horizontal leg a little after assembly and bend it slightly upwards to provide a little security from bumps and wind or whatever.

Totally! We made one HUGE mistake when we built our house in the country. We put in a large 3 Car garage, and we should have made it a 4-5 car with 2-3 of the stalls tandem parking. We needed room immediately, and as time passes, and we collect machinery, it has been a battle keeping up with storage. In fact, it's ironic, we JUST finally hung up our pictures from moving 3 years ago...and this video was filmed the same time frame... Moving sucks, especially after 12+ years in a house. When we move from here, in like 100 years, it's gonna be terrible!

I have a ratcheting PVC pipe cutter that takes 3-4 seconds to go through 3/4" Schedule 40 and you don't have any waste, no mess to clean up, no chance of breathing in PVC dust, and there are no burrs caused by a sawing method. A little sanding on all ends to round them a little is going help make the assembly and break-down easier. A light coating of soap, baby oil, veg oil, or whatever you have on hand, will help the pieces slide together with less force. Thanks for the great videos! I'm new to your channel and RCing and I'm looking at the AeroScout 1.1, as my first plane.

I heard about these and sounds awesome...like our PEX cutter, only bigger. Thanks for the tips! Glad I can incorporate them on my next stand...materials are waiting to be built ;)

@@BrianPhillipsRC I went with the AeroScout S 2 1.1m that comes with Smart 2200mAh 3S 11.1V 30C LiPo battery, and since I have ADD (lol) and can't wait for two hours for that little battery to recharge so I also bought a 100C battery to get me back in the air and fly longer. On the third hand launch over grass, a sudden cross wind pitched it over and it crashed on the pavement I was near and crunched the front landing gear. Doh! I was convinced by the sales person to buy a $15 bottle of EPO Foam glue, which I think I left on the back of my motorcycle, that I rode 45 minutes from my home. As it turns out, Super Glue works pretty well for minor repairs. Are there any other EPO Foam friendly glues that you could recommend?

Man and I thought i had it bad on rc’s…..lol you make me proud to be an rc addict! Addition to the many and I mean many planes I have I also have just as many helis, cars and boats! No reason to be embarrassed for anything that you do, you have a passion not everyone enjoys! Just as long as the bills are paid, food on the table, roof over your heads and clothes on your back, keep doing what you’re doing! What makes this a great hobby, the whole family can participate and enjoy it as a family, awesome collection sir!

Loved seeing your hanger. Brian, with all that land you need to build a Pole Barn for all your planes and farm equipment. I have built similar PVC racks for my planes. I don't have nearly as many as you though, WOW!

Man, you are a real hoarder. What good is it to have dozens of airplanes when most people often fly just a few models that they like most? I have been in this hobby for 56 years now and only have maybe 5-8 models that I enjoy flying but, even at that 2 or 3 are collecting dust. I am not a well organized person by a long shot and have more projects than life expectancy, but - still??!

I agree that the AVERAGE RC enthusiast is going to have maybe 10-20 planes, a few helis, and a drone or two...some cars and trucks, of course depending on their level of interest in each of the sub-sets of the hobby. What I don't understand is HOW you haven't noticed that I'm not an average enthusiast?

Totally! I love doing this, but it's lead to some unforeseen consequences, as any other success might also bring along for the ride ;) Flying almost every new RC plane that comes out is an amazing privileged and honor, and I love it, but at the end of the day, they still exist in time and space and must be stored ;) Queue BrianPhillipsHoarder - LOL!

I would glue the top and the base and a few sections, just for my own piece of mind. I'd also put cut up pool noodles over the pipe for a little extra friction. Overwise and awesomely simplistic and easy build. I have a similar Idea for deck chair cushions. Just can't believe how much PVC is now compared to a couple years ago. The clamps are a really good idea for your larger heavier planes too. And you can adjust the width easily. Time to sell off some of the stock? I yield to the camera crew on this question.

Yes Chris, and I haven't yet knocked over a rack, but we did end up reinforcing them vertically. We're going to liquidate a few here and there. Sorry for any delay if you're waiting...we've been so swamped with a link-changeover...a terrible process where we have to update all our main links b/c hh decided to switch vendors for their tracking, and it's taken 4 weeks of Megan's time so far ;( and less than half way there!!!!! But we have to do it...100% necessary. Thank GOD for Megan!

At 4:32 and better yet at 4:56 and BEST at 9:09 you can see exactly why I wanted one as an inverted piece of living room ceiling art as a out of warranty R/C flier. However, the first thing that I thought when watching this video is that you are certainly fortunate that none of your cats have found the joy of using your wings as claw sharpeners or of feline entertainment value. CAPT RICK "MADCAP" NORWOOD (as decaled under my canopy on one side inverted) P.S. I suggest you devise a quick release means of securing your rack tops to the ceiling for rack stability despite load imbalance too.
