It's crazy. When he's interviewed , he's like, embarrassed by the title Legend :) He just shrugs it off as if he himself doesn't get how influential, and unique he actually is! When he said in one interview in Australia - that he never practices - he finds it "boring" - I nearly fell off my chair!! I was like, Whoa! You're self taught - one of THE baddest cats to ever pick up a bass - you're in the funkiest, horn band ever - and you don't practice???....With that, he went from "Legend" to Bass God in my book! :) :)

I've been diggin' on these guys since day 1 and they still give me chills. Not a single weak link in this band. What it must feel like to be a member of this 'super group'. This is the way it's supposed to be done kiddies. RIP Rocco. You were one of a kind Pal and the funkiest bass player to walk the planet.

You can't teach funk. You either got it or you haven't and these guys have it in abundance. Fantastic rhythm section. Wonderful brass and a singer who oozes class . Don't analyse it, don't try to understand it, just let it flow through you and feel feel feel the groove.

I think I was like 12 when I first heard it when I turned on the radio... I didn't capture the name of the band... but only "so much oil"... and I've searched for the song for years! Then... somehow... I stumbled upon Napster and found it! I got to buy the album (someone bought it for me) for 25 guilders, say 12 Euros... Best buy ever! This song holds so many truths...

TOP is the guideline to true funk in this world. I just can't say enough about how much talent this band has now and then. Seen them twice so far. I need to see them more. Garibaldi is the Funk Master on the Tubs.

It amazes me that in all of the TOP videos there are no closeups of Mr. Francis Rocco Prestia burning it up on electric bass. He's the balls of the band and yet not one camera drone thought of capturing the mad genius of finger style funk playing bass on camera?

My constant fave band since early 70's. This song was their first I ever heard. I had the album, Urban Renewal, on 8-track! Thanks to them, I still know how it feels to be 23! Also have it on vinyl, cassette and on various CD'S. Try Doc's spin-off, especially "Soulful Kind of Love" from their latest CD "Bumped Up To First Class" by Strokeland Superband

wow, wtf? they were around and playing their stuff professionally just a bit later than sly stone. no doubt they are probably partly influenced in some way by sly & the family stone. i don't know whether you've watched other videos or not, (if not i recommend "what is hip" and make sure it is one that says 2006 Montreux) but I can definitely say they are up in the funky area right beside Sly & the Family Stone. not to mention their horn section is the tightest and one of the funnest to listen to
