I tried different cargo straps to tie down my RZR and the best one I found for me is the Rhino USA Ratchet Straps, I bought them off Amazon, I like them because they have a safety latch on the hook to prevent the hook from coming off the trailer tie down loop or RZR, I lost a tie down strap when I hit a bump on the road, with the RZR's long travel suspension the RZR shock compressed and the strap loosened and hook came off the trailer loop and the strap eventually came off and fell onto the road, I didn't even know it. (hope nobody's car got damaged). the safety latch will prevent that from happening. And I never use the RZR suspension components as tie down points, (asking for trouble) I always use the frame to secure the RZR to the trailer. Great posting! and some pretty good tips.

Hey bud I completely understand your point of view and a few folks have messaged me in private to address that point in regard to compressing the suspension. Unless your securing the unit equally lateral and you have no mounting points on the ground you’ll be compressing the suspension. In my experience, initial compression will become relaxed after about 15-30 minutes of driving because of the natural dynamics of motion. We tow on open trailers a lot and we can’t afford for them to shift. Thanks for commenting!

The best and safest way is with a track system and tire basket straps. Allows suspension to flex and the vehicle won’t move. Next best is with soft straps around the end of the lower A-arms closest to the tire and ball joint and don’t do an “x” strapping method as the straps will slide up the A-Arms and become loose. Shock Therapy just posted a good video on this very topic.
@RZRDREAMS4 жыл бұрын
Yep, we’re adjusting and will be installing the new tire tracks on our trailers. We will make a new video once the trailers are all refurbished. We have a few things we want to do to them still. Thanks brother!!
@RZRDREAMS3 жыл бұрын
We don't use the A-arms to tie down our RZRs, that was never a recommendation. The X method is a tried and true method for ensuring equipment doesn't slide off cargo pallets.

Something important..Just because it has a hitch, that does NOT mean it has the tow package. Many dealers will install a hitch and then let the customer believe its part of the Tow Package. Many factory Tow Packages include extra/bigger trans coolers and eng coolers and sometimes includes lower gear ratios....So checking out for sure is very important... Thanks, good video.

You also need to add the trailer weight to your total tow weight , the tie down location is not good , it still allows the suspension to move when traveling and will put extra stress on the straps , the best way to strap down is to strap the tires, its the best and most secure location and will not damage any suspension parts
@RZRDREAMS3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree but you just contradicted yourself. Tire strapping is the best method to use and you want your shocks to freely compress and decompress on their own during travel. Thanks for watching my friend.

First off, thank you so much for your service. I'm sure as volatile as the world is right now, it is a very stressful time for you as well as your family. The crossing over of straps is an age old debate that I don't think there is a right or wrong answer to. The reason I don't do it is that in the event that you would lose one of your straps the other is wanting to pull your vehicle to the side of the trailer. With the trailer you have there, I think I would tie from the front lower A-arm on the passenger side as close to the wheel as you can to the welded ring beside the passenger rear tire. Then from the lower control arm on the rear passenger side close to the wheel to the front welded ring on the passenger side. Repeat on the driver side. But there are many ways to do this correctly. At the end of the day, if the car stays on the trailer, you must have done good. Thank you for a great, informative vid.
@RZRDREAMS2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for writing to us, we appreciate your kind words. We completely agree with you on the crossing of straps and have already moved onto new RZRs so we're doing this all differently now. Our favorite way to do this now is to tie-down the two front tires to the trailer.

I highly recommend not strapping your UTV this way, I get it.. this would work on most cars and trucks, but honestly the quality of metal and thickness of the metal in the UTV is not able to hold up to this way of strapping. I am a travel nurse and bring my UTV with me in my toyhauler all over the country, constantly towing with it and i kept having issues with the frame cracking, control arm damage strapping the UTV down like they educated us in the military. I switched to strapping the UTV down by the wheels only and in over a year i have had no more issue with cracks developing on the frame and bending any suspension parts. I use the same straps you see on car tow dollys now, which are called "tow dolly basket straps" with the ratchets located on the front or rear of the UTV. The reason i place the ratchets here is to make the forces of the strap pull the wheels opposing of each other, to prevent the suspension bouncing a strap loose. I only saw your video as it was recommended on my home page and wanted to share my troubles and experience ive gained over time with towing of UTVs..

The only thing I don't do anymore is like how your rear straps are rubbing on the L angle of the trailer. With movement, I find it slowly starts to cut through the straps. Had one break before while travelling. And it was a new strap.

The only issue I see is, it’s not a good idea to use the A arms as a tie down point. Using the frame of the RZR would be a better tie down point. I recently went to tire basket tie downs, they secure the RZR & let the suspension on RZR not be compressed & become a problem.

Thanks for all info if military does I’ll tie mine down that way when u do weight do u include trailer weight
@RZRDREAMS4 жыл бұрын
Hey friend, each trailer should have a clear number that tells you how much weight you can load onto that trailer. It does not include the weight of the trailer. Alternatively, some people don't like to strap their SxS machines by the frame and/or A-arms. You can always use tire straps which wrap around each tire and secures them to the trailer. These straps are generally affordable and the last pair I saw was at Harbor Freight for about $30 each. I hope this helps my friend. Take care!
@scottww60573 жыл бұрын
Two things, weight distribution, too much forward, too much tongue weight kills your tow vehicle. Too little tongue weight makes your trailer fishtail. Never cross your tie downs, if one fails it draws your cargo off in the direction of the one that didn't fail. The result can have your rzr flung into oncoming traffic, essentially if one strap fails they all come loose in the crossed setup.
@RZRDREAMS3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the recommended points. As stated in the video, we're both military dudes who have over 12 years combined experience strapping down cargo for Air Lift US Air Force operations. We have an idea of what we're doing. Cheers my friend.

@@RZRDREAMS The RZR is not on a cargo plane. Airplance can slip and skid during turns and move up and down, sometimes with violent movements in bad weather. You don't want military cargo shifting in any direction. That's why cargo is secured so that it doesn't move in any direction - the cargo becomes part of the airplane. It upsets the balance when cargo shifts. A SxS on a trailer has much more forward/backward stresses, very little side to side and up/down. That's why you shouildn't cross your tie down straps. If one fails on the front (or back), both have deemed to fail.

I think tow package ratings are for level, paved roadways. Add hills, rough terrain and your book tow rating has to be reduced. The manufacturer has no control over the terrain you choose to drive on.

First time I see someone endorse strapping on the A-arms. Your supposed to avoid all suspension bits when you strap.
@RZRDREAMS4 жыл бұрын
Yes, even the owner's manual tells you this. How would you recommend strapping this unit to the trailer without compressing the suspension?
@danburch99894 жыл бұрын
@@RZRDREAMS There are two schools of thought on strapping. Strapping the tires without compressing the suspension allows the suspension system to absorb shock loads when towing over rought terrain. Compressing the suspension makes the load more rigid on the - reduces movement of the load from causing trailer sway. There are other pluses and minuses to each method of strapping your ride to the trailer. But in any case, NEVER strap to a suspension component; strap to the framework as you did on the rear strapping. The strap on the A-arm can slide toword the center of the machine and it will be loose. To each his own.

Not trying to bash you in anyway however as an owner of a motorcycle dealership ( 5 brands ) and I also sell utility trailers and enclosed trailers there is NO proof that crossing your straps is any better than a straight pull. If you really want the best way and most secure way to tie down your side by side is use the E track with tire nets. Always tie the front and back down as well. Second don’t mess with long ratchet straps, get 4 cargo buckles on Amazon. Make sure you get thenG3 as they will legally secure the weight of a side by side. Anyone who uses ratchet straps that aren’t rated for the weight of the vehicle they are securing is subject to fines if stopped. Theses machine are expensive, I know I sell them. Make sure they are secured correctly. Little know fact. Check your vehicle insurance company. Make sure your trailer is covered in the event of a mishap. Alot of insurance companies DO NOT cover the utility trailer with the tow vehicle. A lot of homeowners insurance don’t cover the trailer if stolen or damaged at home. Trailer insurance is cheap. Last thing. BUY the extended warranty on your unit. One breakdown after your manufacture warranty runs out can cost you a lot more than the extended warranty. Be safe and keep your unit strapped safely.

Anton, thank you for the advice it is humbly appreciated. We have since changed the way we tie-down our units using the method you described however, we still use ratchet straps. @@RZRDREAMS if your truly want the most secure way to tie down your unit that’s really not that expensive is use the E track along with the tire nets. The perfect trailer appears to be a 16' really. That way if you have a smaller RZR like a sport you will have plenty of room to bring other things like kids power wheels, grill, etc. Additionally, when you're ready to upgrade your SxS, you don't have to worry about buying a new trailer if you decide to get a bigger ride.
