Thank you to Gio D for helping with the video. Also to Immersaholic who wanted to make his own video on the battle 😁 Link to his video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIrdhHmfftWla7M

This tactic relies on the difficulties of battlefield communication. It takes quite a long time to react to a given situation and because it is impossible to always follow orders exactly as they are intended. When the enemy general learn of the concentrated force, it is often far to late, not only because he is very often not right at the front line or even at the place it occurs but far away. Also, depending on terrain, one cannot tell right away, that the enemy army is numerically superior at that location because just infantry is a pretty good site blocker against other infantry on flat terrain. When the soldiers get overwhelmed, it is most likely way to late to react. All above are things that would never work to its full potential in total war games. The bird side view, mostly no hidden units but even showing what units they are and how strong there are, the small battles, the unrealistic instant reaction to any movement, most detailed commands to form up your men exactly as you like ... Its so far off from what ancient battles would actually look like that you cannot even compare them. All of the things that make the defeat in detail are valid tactic, dont exist in total war.

If these things could be implemented into TW somehow it would be amazing. The closest we've come is the units with stalk ability, as they can move around unseen. But that isn't really what we need. If they could make it so you can't see past the frontline it would be amazing. It would make the game much harder, but also way more tactical.

I wish there was a hardcore setting in TW. General view only, command delays, screening units, and limited information about the enemy army.

That would honestly be so cool!

there's another kinda similar tactic you might consider for analysis. I've only heard mention of it once but Julius Caesar said it give him a hard time even though he won. A German king, Ariovistus, set up his army with several groups consisting of 3 infantry in a line with 1 cavalry behind. as the infantry served as a screen and engaged the enemy, the cavalry would do hit and run.

By hit and run do you mean the cavalry would charge in and immediately back out?
@bello9740
@bello9740 Жыл бұрын
@@lolanobiting8238 I assume so. what little info I found, it said the cavalry would charge and then retreat back behind the infantry.

Interesting how "The Desert Fox" did it too. I don't know too much about WW2 apart from what is expected. Any other stories from that war?🤔

@@Toxborg Well, that was actually a major part of German warfare, in Bewegungskrieg, the German doctrine of maneuver warfare, the forces would be concentrated into the Schwerpunkt, where they would achieve tactical success and then turn it into a strategic victory.

Total war 20 unit limit makes 5 battlegroups a hard amount to manage as they are sub optimal. 40 Unit armies would give the optimum performance for 5 battlegroups.

I love using this tactic and have found 4 sub armies effective. 2 swords in front, then 1 skirm, 1 spear defending the rear, and 1 cav/chariot behind them.

@@Toxborg not the best for all situations but I love the confusion it creates when I start splitting in 2 then 4 like an amoeba. It suffers a bit from cav majority armies so the spears in back helps out a lot to balance it out.

I wonder how well this tactic would do with a cavalry heavy force?
@Toxborg
@Toxborg 2 жыл бұрын
It would most likely be OP. The more cavalry you bring, the bigger your chances are of winning. In DEI at least

@@Toxborg You could probably do a imitation of the battle of Manzikert with it, where the Turks took on a crescent formation to threaten the Roman Flanks. Then did a feign retreat to spread out the Romans and separated the flanks and center from each other, then proceeded to destroy them in detail.

I can imagine so. It sounds like a mix of many different tactics put into something ELITE!
