Toxic Social Media

Thank you for your insights on social media and for teaching us how to engage with it properly. We have lost our ability to communicate with each other as a society. We no longer talk to people face-to-face. Often times, we don’t make the time to communicate. We want a quick and easy way out. Sometimes, we hide behind texting and social media to share our thoughts/feelings and forget that a real person is behind the screen seeing that post/text. Social media and texting as a means of communicating can hurt a relationship. It’s been said in communication that 10% percent are the words we use, and 90% is the tune we use to communicate. We need to hear people's voices. We need to make the time to have those face-to-face conversations. Social media and texting removes the human element of communicating, which is desperately needed in society today.

Thank you so much for your comment. This is so well said and we totally agree. In person communication is much more “interactive” and positive! When you are behind a keyboard a lot gets lost in translation. We really do need to make more of an effort to have productive and loving face-to-face conversations.

I can speak from personal experience. There was a time where I had a tough time with my career aka a hole in my resume. This had to be advertised on facebook despite my wishes. Because my job was already up. So when my birthday rolled around everyone saw this hole. I tried to get around this by disabling my facebook, but friends still saw this and brought up the deactivated facebook. This was right after college when all my friends were very active on facebook.
