Wow so jealous of your collection , I wachted it as a kid think the first was reruns of the tv in black and white as that's what we had then so it didn't stand out, then later the movie came out and we had a colour tv 😀👍🏻 it was so cool, then they had reruns, then space 99 came out , my daughter got me the collection of dvds of space 99 all of the show's , I watch UFO back in the first lockdown on KZbin was great to see it again, I didn't know about the merchandise that's so cool 👍🏽👍🏻

Wonderful post, Brian. Loved UFO as a kid and couldn't get the noise the UFO's made, out of my head. The sequence in "Sound of Silence," where SHADO Mobiles depth charge the lake to flush out a UFO, is still one of the best action set pieces in television.

Absolutely right! In fact, I live not far from where I believe many of the live-action sequences were filmed for that episode , Black Park, here just outside of London. I have visited it on a number of occasions, also because I believe (again) that it was used in the first 2 episodes of Star Maidens, also from 1970s.

In 1966, German tv started broadcasting a show called Raumpatrouille Orion ( space patrol, Orion). The characters exploited space in a UFO. It was in black and white. I’m not sure if any toys were made.

My Favourite G.A. Show of all time!! Growing up I loved all the G.A. Shows, Space1999 and Stingray were my favourites as I missed UFO on it's first run, I first saw the Super 8 cine movies by Techno films as a kid and then later saw Invasion UFO, and then the intact full length episodes, This has now become my favourite G.A. Show with Space 1999 a close 2nd, If you love UFO you must get the Product Enterprises/Sixteen 12 models they are Fantastic!!☺😊😁👍

Hi Brian, I love UFO I was given a Dinky UFO interceptor when I was 6 or 7 and loved playing with it. I eventually broke the rear undercarriage, but I still have it. Recently new models of the interceptor and UFO , Sky diver and Shado mobile were released and I just had to have them. Growing up in the late 70s early 80s there were so many great Si Fi toys and models I think we were really lucky. I wish I had some Battle of the Planets toys, I loved that show. Keep up the good work.

I was a fan since the early 1970’s syndicated broadcast in the US. My grails are a rare large UFO garage kit from Shed that was 1/1 with the studio prop. My other is a personalized photo from Ed Bishop. I had sent him a letter through the mail and he answered me back with a very warm response not too long before he passed away.

I remember watching U.F.O. as a little kid and loving it. I recently bought the DVD box set of the series and am currently rewatching it. It hits very different as an adult. I didn't pick up on how dark some of the storylines are when I was young. I was probably too distracted by the spaceships and, at times, scantily clad people. I also love the "future" they imagined and would happily live there. I would totally rock a Nehru jacket. 😁

Please make a Doctor Doug Jackson figure - a Vladek Sheybal action figure would be awesome. And Vladek Sheybal was such a cool guy in real life. A superb actor, who could say the most incredible lines - and you'd believe every word. His Doug Jackson (obviously an alias), was one of my favourite characters on UFO. You never knew where you stood with him.

You'll be pleased to know that Anderson Entertainment have just released the first volume of a collection of UFO comic strip reprints, that appeared in Countdown, an early 70s UK weekly anthology comic-book that featured strips based on popular sci-fi TV shows of the day, such as Doctor Who. The artwork is gorgeous. There's a 2nd volume coming out later in the year.

I've mentioned this on other P.Stallions vids but when my parents passed away last year I got all my toys from my childhood (my mum really was my 'toy angel' ) boxed up nicely and put in the loft. Anyway, I thought I had lost all my corgi and Dinky toys but I found the majority this weekend - including Shado 2 and the interceptor, 2 Eagles, Batmobiles ( big n small) etc. I really was a lucky kid n my dad constantly threatened to bin all my "dollies". Oh how I enjoyed showing him eBay valuations of Star Wars , Action Man etc and my "much loved" (ie knackered ) Dinky toys! As always, thank you Brian, for all you do researching and showing your collection!

The series was issued years ago on DVD in the U.S. by A&E, but that is now out of print. Fortunately, an excellent Blu-ray set has been issued by the Network U.K. label in the U.K. and has nice extras, but the picture and sound are stunning in high definition and lossless sound. Too bad it is a Region B locked set, but is worth getting a region-free player for. Shout! Factory seems to have the rights in the U.S. to do it, but they are not doing a thing with them, unless those rights expired. It is a must-have set and Network U./K. also has the other Anderson SuperMarionation shows, including and equally amazing CAPTAIN SCARLET Blu-ray set. These shows are LONG overdue for rediscovery ion the U.S.!

I wasn't very impressed by the Network UFO blu ray. It is over- processed and unlike their Space 1999 blu ray isn't from the original negatives. The earlier Carlton DVD is better. It was done more lovingly, even to the extent of reconstructing the title sequence from original film materials.

I am so glad to find this video, Brian. I watched this show in the early 70’s while living on Cape Cod (about 45 minutes outside of Boston). It was odd to me then, and I think this was largely due to it being British. It was my first exposure to something international. But, I never missed it as a young teenager. And then it just disappeared. Now, all too many decades later and I have just discovered it again on Amazon Prime. Now, I should tell you, as a die hard Space: 1999 fan …I am amazed at how awesome this series is. And especially how much more enjoyable Ed Straker is as a Commander in charge. The stylishness, the models, the smoking, the alcohol.... It’s like Mad Men meets James Bond. It's just stunning to look at. I love and am amazed by just how great this series really is. Thanks for posting this video.

I can't remember a time when I wasn't obsessed with this show. I'm just old enough to remember the publicity around UFO when it was broadcast on CBS owned-and-operated stations as well as in syndication, but our local station didn't play it. I remember being obsessed with the Dinky merchandise, and unlike you, I'm a big fan of the Interceptor, as strange a design as it is. I actually like the bright glistening green paint job on the toy, I think more than I would than if it were screen accurate.

I am in my mid 50s so UFO is a show that is in the dim recesses of my memory. I did not know that it was broadcast on CBS owned and operated stations. My local station was probably not owned by CBS and did not show it. However I do remember seeing a couple of episodes of it on Saturday afternoons in the early 70s. It was common then to stick a syndicated show unscheduled into a time slot to makeup for a baseball game that ran over its time slot or a boxing match that ran under or something else that was hard to time. It just was a matter of luck to find a show like UFO on a random weekend afternoon flipping between three channels. I saw it and then tried to figure out what it was without having any resources or popular culture references to it. By the 80s and early 90s I began to believe I had just imagined it! So glad the internet came along to show me that I had not imagined shows like this!

I bought Countdown avidly with my pocket money back then, and to see them so well re-printed is an absolute treasure! I, too, am a collector of UFO merchandise and have the Dinky Interceptor in my collection (which I’m in the process of cataloging right now!). I don’t know HOW the SHADO Interceptor is your least-favourite vehicle!! For me, it’s the BEST! Looking forward to re-watching this video, and to checking out your other videos. All the best, Steve

Like a a lot of us, I didn't see UFO on either its original UK or US run. I discovered the merch first in the mid nineties with the Imai model kits and in the pages of Hobby Japan magazine. Eventually I would learn more and more about the series until I eventually bit the bullet and bought the 8 DVD "Megaset" put out by A&E. It's very much of its time (characters enjoying a cigarette while travelling in a space ship, female characters often wearing form fitting or skimpy outfits, etc...), but it also had an air of maturity about it tackling subjects such as racism, the loss of a child, etc... Some episodes are a bit out there, but I have the impression UFO was aimed at adults and not children....or more accurately, adults who grew up on Gerry Anderson shows as kids.

UFO is also one of my all-time favorites. Is that large Gay Ellis in your collection a figure, statue or a model kit? It looks good. I recently got the SHADO Tech Manual from the Anderson store. It's absolutely amazing, one of the best sci-fi tech manuals I own. I have some of the Product Enterprises die-cast vehicles that came out years ago, to include 2 Mobiles, an Interceptor with a UFO, and my favorite sci-fi vehicle ever, Skydiver. I have the old lunch box, but without the thermos. I wish there had been a second season. Like you said, a great sci-fi war series, and just a great series in general.

I'm actually rather stunned that you don't have a Dinky UFO Interceptor. I can't speak to Canada, but here in the states that was by far the most popular and easy to find one. And was the most fun. Just for that massive spring fired missile that could concuss the cat at 20 paces. You had to pull that arming lever back a full inch to cock that spring. About the only other Dinky Vehicles truly on par with it were the Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle from Captain Scarlett and of course the Eagles.

Ah, a favorite show. My first exposure to it was the Invasion: UFO movie... in 1980, the local cable company, Gilcable, had a mostly-blank channel, but they ran one movie a week on it, and once it was Invasion UFO, which was the talk of the schoolyard the next day. I was a bit confused as it was set in 1980, but I was watching it in 1980! The San Jose PBS station, well known for its sci-fi block, showed the series later on... I believe Timelash was my first episode. The show is HUGELY influential on Japanese anime, even more than the "average" Anderson show. Compare the opening of Evangelion to UFO, for starters. The Big O series had season 2 opening theme that was a little too heavily inspired by the UFO theme, enough that it doesn't get used on US releases. I have a variety of merchandise, the Carlton die-cast Skydiver is a favorite, I found the US novel "Sporting Blood" at a used bookstore (Featuring an upside down SID) and an oversized hardcover art book of the vehicles.

What an excellent collection of UFO merchandise you have. I'm old enough to remember when ufo was first shown in the UK in September 1970 having just turned 9 years old. I can't remember actually watching the very first episode but remember the episode Survival with Foster and the stranded alien on the surface of the moon. I've always loved ufo and even watched The Long Sleep episode when it was screened very late at night because of its drug - taking references. I was so tired the next morning, and I had to get up for school. You mentioned Invasion ufo, I also had a copy of it on VHS. I think it cost me five pounds at our local video shop. I played it to death as there was nothing to do with ufo on tv at the time (1985). Now I have the ufo series on blu Ray and also on wide-screen dvd. The blu ray set is very crisp and clear and is presented as it was shown in the normal square format of television in the past.

I had one of the model kits. I got it around the time Star Wars hit big and I had no idea what it was from. I thought it was some Japanese thing. It was the smaller spaceship with the torpedo looking thing on its nose. It would be many years before I discovered all of the Gerry Anderson shows and I love the aesthetic or design style. The costumes, the cars, the sets, I love it all. I have t watched all of this series but I have watched the feature film version.

"A Question of Priorities"...that episode kinda messed me up back in '73 when I was eight. Watched it again a couple year ago. Still kinda messed up. And, BTW, I knew a guy that had the lunchbox AND the Dinky SHADO 2 back in the day. What are the odds?

I too hated that episode with a passion. Having Ed and Mary's son die and then having Mary blame Ed for their son's death were better suited for a soap opera than for a sci-fi show.

I never saw the show, but one of the odd facts about the setting fascinates me: the women with the purple hair aren't aliens (my first assumption), or even humans who dye their hair. The purple wig is actually part of their in-universe uniform (and not worn when they're off duty!)

Andrew and I watched UFO from beginning to end recently. And yes, some episodes we struggled thru, but overall it was enjoyable and as someone has stated "an unpolished gem". I didn't realise there was so much UFO merch actually. We had, and broke the Dinky Interceptors as kids, much to our bums chagrin when our parents found out. Brian, we just love these episodes you deliver to us, makes us smile 😊 Was actually waiting for you to mention Wanda Ventham's connections 🤣

I also had the interceptor when I was younger. The green colour was a bit of a turn off, never understood why they used that instead of white. I now have a modern interceptor in the proper white. It's coupled with a separate ufo and they are in a boxed set.

I had an Interceptor but they were painted green in the UK. It was probably the last toy I was ever given as at the time I was probably a bit too old for it but I loves UFO so much..Having been a Dinky,Corgi, Matchbox kid just had to ask for it when asked what gift I would like one time.

Great video, Brian! I'm too young to have seen UFO as a child but I feel like there were echoes of it in the pop culture that I could never identify as a kid. I learned about the show though you and Jason on the Pod Stallions podcast (which there aren't enough episodes of, in my opinion) and when I tracked it down and gave it a viewing, it felt like all those unidentifiable echoes came into focus as if the show was already in my DNA. I absolutely love the show, it's one of the coolest things I've ever seen. I'd love to have some authentic merchandise and I'd have no problem buying reissue merchandise if anyone ever produced it, especially that Dinky vehicle collection.

UFO is a show that was released about 20 years too early. If it had come out in the early 90's when shows with a continuing storyline and mythology like The X-Files started I'll bet it would have caught on big time.

Your Panini album looks pristine. I have one from Serbia. Exactly the same but on Serbian. I am currently translating the text using a combination of translation apps and my knowledge of the series ( their word for aliens translates literally as citizens of the universe). It will take me a few months but I can send you a word document if the translations page by page once I am finished if you want. It is jointly one ifcmy favourite UFO collectibles together with the Town Mook Japanese super visual guidebook which I bought when it was first released. Have you heard about the compilation "movies" which were released in Italy? I have been pestering Nwtwork video to release remastered versions of them. They have already released blu ray versions of the movie compilations if The Persuaders and Space 1999, including a Space 1999 Italian movie with the music restored by Ennio Morricone.

Both the Product Enterprise Mobiles and the UFO saucer were re-released a few years ago by a company called Sixteen 12 (actually the same guys as P.E.) - these may be easier (and cheaper!!!!) to find than the originals. The Konami UFO model, albeit much smaller, is also worth tracking down as the paddle section spins independently of the top and bottom domes. Lastly, US company ROUND2 MODELS is supposed to be releasing some UFO kits next year - see my separate comment on this video.....
