Hot Wheels Redline 1968 Original 16 Models - Video No.135 - July 29th, 2016
When it comes to Redline Hot Wheels nothing is more popular than the “Original 16” models for the 1968 model year. Frequently guys will call me up and ask how much a set costs and that is a difficult question to answer. Several years ago I sat down and calculated the most expensive set I could think of and realized that you can easily spend over $30,000 for the best and rarest models to fill out a set of 16 first year cars. On the other hand if you have an eye for value, and access to many places to get Redline Hot Wheels it is possible to put a set together for around $300. Of course you can’t be too picky about condition at that price. This set is the first set I have put together for a customer at his request and I did it for him because it is going to be displayed in a museum. Usually it is just too hard to match up 16 unless you really put your mind to it and put in lot of time at it. This set is valued at around $1,400. Thanks for watching and be sure to give me thumbs up and subscribe too. I thank you so much for your time! www.ToyCarCollector.com --- Music Credit: Dispersion Relation by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (creativecommon...)

The nice thing about Redline is that 50 years later they can still be beautiful. The bad thing is that if either are still beautiful you can't afford them! LOL Fortunately for me I managed to find a smart and attractive gal who thinks collecting Hot Wheels and Matchbox is a good thing, not sure what is wrong with her but I am glad to have her!

I have those and some where made in Hong Kong and some in the USA, you could tell the difference when you compare a USA version and a Hong Kong version, the Hong Kong version had more detailed chassis and bodies. But the USA versions I think brings more value to the table. I have some of both, USA and Hong Kong versions.

I remember in 1968 my family driving almost an hour to San Bernadino to go to Sears on a shopping trip, and my priority was to get a HotWheels car like my friends all had. I didnt know anything about cars so I had no idea which one to get and i stood there brainlocked unable to decide. Finally my parents said we were leaving and i grabbed a Cougar, probably the least cool car of the bunch (which this video doesnt even call out). I think i still have the car somewhere buried in a box of stuff.

The cars in this video are not for sale. Putting together a set of the first 16 Hot Wheels in either USA or Hong Kong models is very difficult. Each car comes in up to 20 colors, various interior colors and then 1,000 different conditions. I've seen a set of 16 sell on ebay for as little as $500 for very worn models and on the other end the sky is the limit. Each model had at least one mega rare color combination. Such as the Deora in Blue and the Beatnik Bandit in Hot Pink.

If you check out on KZbin "hot wheels 2024 Case A" and on down through the alphabet you will find that hot wheels come out in "mixes" that change every 3 weeks or something like that. Then once you see what comes in a mix you will know what to look for at the store.

I think the casting and paintwork was very bad, detail on the Lesney cars where much better..

The proportions and fine detail on the original Matchbox cars were much better. They sure messed that up when they tried to "Out-Hot Wheels", Hot Wheels. I started collecting Matchbox in 1965 and now have an example of each casting going back to 1953 except maybe one or two.

Nice! The one with the art on the side is most likely a newer model, perhaps it is the Purple one with wild graphics?
