My son works on a cattle station up In the Kimberley region of W.A. Has a 2008 Hilux & drives home every Christmas to QLD. Now clocked up 430 000km & no Mechanical problems at all. Just put a new set of injectors in It. Great ute.

1kd-ftv all-day everyday over the other one. Easy to get parts, easy to troubleshoot and is reliable enough anyway. You get one vehicle with this engine below 150,000km and you will get alot out of it still even better if you rebuild.

Hey mate thanks for vid really appreciate ya effort to share your knowledge im a bit of a noob... I just purchased 2009 SR Hilux of a mate 1KD-FTV with 245,000kms, he ran a injector clean a few times a year, Is that the go whats the go for keeping the injectors clean? I will be getting it serviced as per schedule just wanted know about the injectors cheers

1GD FTV is far much better cause 1KD got that timing belt and have carbon build up issue in the inlet port causes engine wear

Do you have any detailed videos on the 2.8 timing chain videos. I've had a look I cant see any.

1kd is more reliable than Gd engines. Base on my experience.

​@@bigsmoke7054 I think the reason why is that GD engines show signs of problems already once you reach the 2 to 5 years mark even if its well maintained on the other hand KD engines can reach the the 5 to 10 or even 15 years mark without showing signs of problems if it's well maintained i have a 2016 Toyota Hiace Commuter 1KD/3.0 and it's still running no issues

Hello, I have a 2009 Land Cruiser Prado with a 1GD-FTV petrol. I am thinking to swap to a diesel 1KD-FTV engine. Are the footprints the same? Will I need any other parts except the engine and transmission? Thank you.

Gday Peter. Just a quick question... I am the owner of a Toyota SR5 (2016) which has the 1GD FTV engine. I have had issues with the timing change @100k kms (Timing chain slap), and it was replaced by Toyota at no cost. They told me all the new parts were revised parts which would prevent premature timing chain problems from occuring again. Here I am 30k kms later and I have they same timing chain issues (chain slap until oil pressure builds up to feed tensioner). In your experience with Toyota engines do you know what the real issue is with the 1GD 2.8 engine? It is a well documented problem that has affected many owners. Thank you.

There’s a bulletin for this on early 1GDs due to faulty machining on one the timing gears causing the chain to run on an angle creating the rattle. Possibly go see a Toyota dealer about it they may be able to help you with some kind of warranty if they are generous

....the 3RZ-FE petrol will outlast these diesel engine.!! some have clocked over 1M miles.!! 1GD timing chain gearing looks similar
