Id used some thread tape on the restriction indicator also, the bottom bolts i swapped with the original ones, supplied bolts were too long, What a solid bit of kit!! Just installed today!

Topspin are the very best pre-filter for snorkles, made by Donaldson in different sizes. They are the most efficient pre filter you can buy, better then the bowl type and you don't have to empty them. If working my tractor in dust I can visibly see the dust being removed from the ejection port.

Hi Nathan, Looks great. Let’s see how it performs cost wise too. This filters can’t be cleaned wit pressure air. Long time test: Please put your new filter on the scale and then check from time to time the weight record it together with the indicator showing the saturation level. I strongly believe it will be a mistake to change to a RAM head on the snorkel. Pre filter the air before it goes down the pipe will extend the life time of your filter element. You have a clear view head at the moment, how a bout the top spin unit. This sheds even better the dust. ? Yes, well know looks like a quarry set up. In deed it is. We run our machines in estream fine dust environment and the power core filter work very well and long time, but only with a top spin unit upfront. But sorry, not from Donaldson the plastic units does not last. For a car with occasional little bulldust the plastic top spin unit will be good enough for long time. Keep us updated what you experience during your trip. I guess the filter will last longer the your trip. Safe trip and. Merry Christmas and happy new year Cheers Not so easy to carry a spare filter.

I would do that also 4" high flow topspin. 98% 20 micron and above is ejected before main filter... That will definitely make the main filter last alot longer.

Well presented Nathan. I didn’t realise it was going to be that efficient. Almost too good to be true. My 200 is still under warranty so I’d be concerned replacing my current filter with this one for the moment. If anything did go wrong with the engine, I’m pretty sure Toyota would wipe me if they saw the Donaldson filter in there. The thing is, having this filter in would probably save Toyota money if anything did go wrong. Travel safely.

Thanks Jim 👍 I definitely feel a little more confident now. I have asked Donaldson about this directly and they maintain that the product won’t void the manufacturers warranty. This is from their warranty document “The use of Donaldson Engine Aftermarket Products will not void engine and equipment manufacturers’ warranties.” I have the full document if you want to see it? I guess Toyota would push back though regardless, it could end up being a bit of a back and forward fight 🤷‍♂️

All standard pipes there mate, no external heating unit. There is a filler point (capped end) for the rear water tank, but this doesn't connect to the factory pipes at all 👍

Quick question, If you have a conventional head on the snorkel and it is raining, I assume you will get water down the snorkel. is the drain hole sufficient and accessable to remove that water ?

Yes, this would be correct. It is not something I’ve tested yet, but I would speculate to say it would be sufficient. Obviously if my testing and experience shows otherwise moving forward I’ll be sure to report back 👍

Dear Audience and commenter The whole Industrie machine OEM‘s have moved or are moving to powercore designed air filter superseding any other filters in the range up to 4.5 ltr Diesel engines. No matter if from Donaldson or Mann& Hummel. Guess for what reason?! Larger filter sizes or smaller units. We see this powercore filter housings in the factory everyday installed. Yes, it took Donaldson way to long to get it into the market but consider development and approval time. It’s not my Intention to offend anyone and it is solely my own judgement but All the aftermarket replacement boxes which use the original Toyota design paper filter any brand or the replacement oiled filter are non factory approved an way overpriced. Our local fabricators commence when he saw a sample! The XLS200K is a brand new world first factory approved replacement product and is in my book not to expensive for what I get for. It is a brand new world leading air filtration product. On the other hand there are 2 downsides. One cannot be avoided, the size of are spare filter to carry in the car if you opt for it. The other is a technical issue and are much mor complicated : Missing an electronic vacuum sensor on the new housing, sensor cable, and reprogrammed software to show in cab display a warning first when the filter gets clogged, serious clogged up and time for replacement for all driver not looking under the bonnet everyday to check on the new mechanical vacuum indicator! And No, I am not a Donaldson fan or sponsored, that’s my own opinion on that subject and we can rest assure that any negative found issue would be in seconds on YT. Have a nice weekend Cheers

Yes, they are compatible in terms of the filter efficiency. It should be noted that the TJM snorkels have added restriction in the intake airflow and this causes the indicator restriction gauge to 'trip' each drive. This is not a fault of the unit, however it represent the restriction the TJM setup introduces to the intake system. I have uploaded a 10000km review that is being release tomorrow morning that will explain this a little further. Overall, the unit will effectively filter, however you will likely have to wait until the 30" gauge is produced to observe an accurate reading on the gauge. Cheers

@@BorgDormat Negative, you wouldn't have to reset each drive. It doesn't matter whether the service window is showing red, the unit will still operate as designed. It just means that you will need to take a baseline reading of the vacuum pressure. Once this has increased by about 10" in H2O then you will know that the element will need replacement. To reset the unit, press the rubbed reset valve on the top of the indicator gauge 👍

Hey mate, this is a hard one. If I was told it would be 2 years, I'd probably buy something else but only in the meantime. My end product would still be this XLC unit. This being said, there's no saying how much damage was done to the turbo's in that time prior to the 2 turbo's failing either, so I guess either way would have been a gamble. So frustrating that this is even an issue in the first place, but it is what it is.

I’ve spoken with several mechanics who state it’s almost always the drivers side that gets damaged, but still trying to find answers. At least with this filter I’ll have some better air coming through as evidence definitely suggests there is some Geri g through the box

Just watched a utube guy called daspedza who says dust may ingress through the ducting that runs down the sides of the motor to the turboes. Various bits joined with 0 rings. Passengers side turbo more proned on earlier models. Merry Christmas

Considering a common mod to the 70 is to fit a 200 series airbox with a little messing with hoses and the like it shouldn't be too hard. There is no such thing as an airfilter that's too big the engine will draw the amount of air it needs. The element for the 70 series (last time I checked) is also shared with the Prado and Hilux. So I imagine they'd be hopping on board that one although firmly in the category of something that really should of been right from the factory considering its been a know issue for at least 15 years.

@@XploringOz That cyclonic pre-filter you're running looks smaller than the one I'm running. I spoke to Donaldson technical support & they ran the numbers on air flow required/ engine displacement/RPM and came up with the one to suit my VDJ79R with a 4" Safari Armax snorkel. If they are too small they don't pre-filter or flow air correctly.

Up there & far over the top. $100 gets you the stainless steel seal area extender & a new air filter in the kit which is what I did. Knowing how to install the factory filter in the factory airbox without rolling the seal is a must have skill. I test fit then remove & inspect the seal & wipe a little bit of rubber grease around the upper airbox lid. No dust leaks past my factory air filter seal in my VDJ79R.
